In this lesson I will be unpacking the definite articles هَذا (this [is]) and ذَليكَ (that [is]).

NOTE: Arabic and English will be on separate lines because the formatting for Wattpad hates me.

هَذا - hadhaa - this is

١. هَذا قِط.
1. This is a cat.

٢. هَذا بَقَة.

2. This is a cow.

٣. هَذا بَقَرة.

3. This is a lamb.

To ask "Is this a ______?" Say أهَذا before the word. Examples:

١. أهَذا كَلب؟

1. Is this a dog?

٢. أهَذا جَمَل؟

2. Is this a camel?

٣. أهَذا ماعز؟

3. Is this a goat?

ذَليكَ - that is - dhalika

Examples:

١. ذَليكَ خِنزير.

1. That is a pig.

٢. ذَليكَ فأر.

2. That is a mouse.

٣. ذَليكَ أرنَب.

3. That is a rabbit.

To say "Is that a _____?", say أذَليكَ. Examples:

١. أذَليكَ خِنزير؟

1. Is that a pig?

٢. أذَليكَ فأر؟

2. Is that a mouse?

٣. أذَليكَ أرنَب؟

3. Is that a rabbit?
