Past ~ Part 3
(A/n: this chapter is from Lan Zhan's POV. So sit back and enjoy as I will be touching on some issues that I hope I can write well. Njoy!)
Walking into Jingshi I knew for a fact that Wei Ying was indeed not at home. It was too quiet and for some reason I was truly uncomfortable. Having him around here is the only reason I like coming back to a home. Our home.
The moment I step into our bed chamber I can sense the faint scent of the sandalwood. Looking around I find an old beautiful burner atop of my desk. It was slightly warm. I have never seen this before. Did Wei bring this home? I carefully light up the incense stick and place it inside the burner. Closing the lid, I take a deep breath and sit down to meditate.
Where is Wei Ying?
At that precise moment I realise something is terribly wrong. My breathing becomes laboured and I for some reason I feel intoxicated. Before I could intimate my brother, my vision blacks out and another appears.
I open my eyes to find myself amidst vast terrains of mountains surrounding me. I am perplexed to understand what is going on?
"Are you sure about this?" I hear a familiar voice of a young lady from afar and I proceed towards the voice. My feet halts when I hear his voice "I am sure". On hearing his voice I quicken my steps to find it leading me into a cave and there, right in front of me lays two bodies. One awake the other unconscious. The lady who was asking the question was Lady Wen Qing and the one answering her was my Wei Ying.
The one who was unconscious was Jiang Cheng and tending to him by stabilizing him was Wen Ning.
What is this?
"Remember there is no going back Wei Wuxian. Once you transfer your Golden Core, you can never live the life of a Cultivator" as she warn about his Golden Core, my world stills.
What?
Golden Core?
Looking around I realise that for some reason I am witnessing a past event and this right here was creating a future that none of us had ever expected it to change the course of time.
"Wen Qing, that right there is my brother. I promised Madam Yu that no matter what the circumstances we would face, I'll always protect him. I want this. Make it happen" he pauses and musters up a smile "try and keep me alive" with a winks he lays down on the mat.
What was once a peaceful surrounding soon turned into a blood curling scream and I had to witness the brutal transformation of my Wei Ying's core. His core was not Golden. It was blazing Red and it was then I truly realise he was a rare soul.
My uncle once had shared an information about most of the cores being Golden, hence the name but the one such core which blazed red was a rarity and his was Red.
Red.
The colour that has given me comfort and has always haunted me.
His screams were too much for me to bear and in quick pace I walk to where his body arches against the ground. Blood trails from his lips and nose. He's ghastly pale. Every second his body is turning blue. Veins protrude from beyond his skin and my heart shreds into fine tatters.
Wei Ying.
I place my palm on his forehead but they pass through him and I realise at that very moment that I am stuck in this purgatory to witness my love being torn into pieces.
Wei Ying.
I am sorry. I am sorry. I am sorry.
For a moment his eyes meets mine and a spec of recognition hits him before he looses his conciousness and I delve into utter darkness.
I open my eyes to find myself engulfed in darkness save for one. His ghastly pale skin emits faint light that was the last thread of his pure soul. I could recognise him through his Red Ribbon.
I crawl on my hands and knees towards him. He was lying face down on the ground and the resentful energies were eating his soul. I realised this was the moment when Wen Clan had pushed him into Burial Mountain.
"Wei Ying" I call his name but he was unresponsive. My heart was truly paining. Even though I was nonexistent in this timeline, yet my soul was being affected. With another bout of energy that I could muster, I call out once again "Wei Ying" and he looks up.
His eyes were listless. He was loosing his life right in front of my eyes. I tried calling his name again but this time I had no voice. All I could do was kneel and watch him walk upto the Sword that we last saw in Muaxi Mountain made out of Yin Iron. The dark energy was seeking his soul and there was nothing I could do to stop.
I tried to crawl but an unseen form had captured me and all I could do was witness him trade his soul.
No Wei Ying!!!
That did not stop him. He did trade. It was me who had forgotten that I was just a soul who was witnessing the history.
As he sat there quietly with the darkness enveloping him, consuming the purity of his heart. They fed from him and he devoured them. The Wei Ying in front of me was rapidly changing. His skin was no longer pale but shone brightly. His hair was longer. His body was no longer lithe but had gained it's bulk to make him stockier and what seemed like a lifetime, he finally opened his eyes and they were Red. I gasp at the fact that my Wei Ying was reborn as The Yiling Patriarch.
Wei Ying, I cry. You sold your soul and there was nothing this Hanguang-Jun could do for you.
I am sorry.
The melody of a Flute wakes me from my dream and I open my eyes to find a man with long tresses, wearing tagged clothes sitting on top of a huge rock and playing. I realise he was my Wei Ying. Knowing that he won't be able to sense my presense I occupy the seat next to him and find Wei Ying caressing his Chenqing adoringly. But that was not what brought me to tears, it was the fact that he was talking to Chenqing that made my heart bleed.
"I don't have a name for you. Maybe one day I will" he smiled at his flute "I know someone who owns a spiritual instrument too. Maybe one day we could play together. His music is soft. I was once informed that music is a therapy to calm ones heart". He looks around at the barren mountain and sighs "I hope one day..." He pauses and shakes his head.
Walking away from me he disappears into thin air as I am frozen to the spot and his words resonates within me.
'I created Chenqing out of love'.
'I know someone who owns a spiritual instrument too'.
Wei Ying.
A pain shoots into my heart and I faint into oblivion.
Clutching my heart I open my eyes when I hear awful screeching screams. Covering my ears as they bleed I look around to see utter darkness. But the darkness is not empty. They are rather live energies screeching into depths of resentment.
I hear a faint breath.
I turn and see a frail body no not a body but a faint soul. Almost a diminishing soul. The dark energies are clawing the faint diminishing light. It's bleeding. It's giving up. At first I was unable to comprehend the meaning but then I hear a dark voice " The Yiling Patriarch, Wei Wuxian, it's me Mo Xuan Yu. I am evoking the powers of soul sacrifice. Help me" the moment the words are uttered the light almost fades away.
No. No. No.
I gasp and am brought back to the present as my eyes frantically search for my bearings. My gaze lands on the Incense Burner. It's not an ordinary burner. As I gasp fot breaths, I remisince the latest vision. Was he trapped there for all these years? He was in pain! Why didn't he ever tell me!
Oh Wei Ying.
'I need to leave.'
'But I will be back soon.'
'Don't wait up for me tonight'
My eyes widen at the memory of his words from today.
No. No. No.
I spring to my feet and run towards the cabinet only to open them and stumble when I find it empty.
His Suibian is gone.
He's taken it with him.
Wei Ying, where are you?.
(A/n: Hopefully this chapter would give you all more perspective as to what Wei Ying has been through. It was tough because I really had to imagine a fantasy and create a reality. So hope it was justifiable.
Also thank you for your concerns about my health. Hopefully I feel better soon.)
