14 ~ modern AU
yeah so john's autism and stuff is based off mine.
future me - don't really like this one tbh but eh, c'est la vie
Little blurby stuffs: John has ASD (autism spectrum disorder) with a side helping of anxiety, ADD (adhd without the h) and a touch of OCD, along with some kind of insomnia. He often talks or acts without thinking, making sorry every other word out of his mouth, and stutters a lot. He has a loud noise and touching trigger, and the severity varies. He's still a person though, and loves to do everything any one else would. And one day on a school camp trip thingy blah-blah-blah
John's POV
I sat on the bus, at the back naturally, with Peggy next to me. I wasn't feeling too touchy so she was able to, and could touch me. I sat at the back cause I felt there was less noise.
I hum as I flick the pages of my book, not really concentrating. I zone out a lot, pretty randomly, while doing anything, talking, walking, reading. Anything. It's almost like disassociating. I completely lose track.
I snap back into reality and glance confusedly at the page in the book. "Ah, fudge-nebits." I sigh. I don't even know where that word came from. I don't hesitate to swear, but that word slipped into my vocab.
I flick back a couple of pages and Peggy giggles.
"What?" I ask. Is she laughing at me? Did I do something wrong? IS there someone else laughing at me?
"Fudge-nebits?" She giggles. She's my best friend so it's not like she's heard it all before.
"Oh shh." I shush her. I brought 3 books on this week long trip. They were biggest I could find. I don't honestly know if they're gonna last.
She's reading fan fiction on her phone. Dear lord if she starts reading smut-
Suddenly, one of the boys in the general middle are stands up and shouts something. I couldn't tell what he said, and part of that got me. I jump, even though it's not a surprise.
I gave a small shudder.
One of the teachers stands up and walks over to him, saying in a stern voice that gives me anxiety "Alexander!"
"Not that Alexander kid again..." Peggy mumbles.
"Huh?" I mutter, voicing my thoughts involuntarily.
"He's forever in trouble and being generally annoying." Peggy says, putting her phone in her lap.
I close my book and try to place it evenly on my legs.
"I heard the other day he got in trouble for a fight." Peggy continues.
"Oh oh oh!" I start, something coming into my brain, and I start to gesture wildly. "S-s-s-s-so I-I-I-I-I--I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-" I realise I'm stuttering like mad again and pause, taking a deep breath. This is a regular occurrence.
"I was there the other day! It was outside my English class." I explain. "Oh look a blue car!" I say wildly, pointing. I have no control over my words. My brain thinks 'blue car' so I voice it. No control. "So anyway, it was loud so I saw 5 seconds before running away. I don't like drama like that, it's literally just plain stupid."
Peggy laughs. Our eyes glance over to that Alexander kid, who seemed to be arguing with the teacher.
"Seems like a dick-" I say before covering my mouth with one hand. "Sorry!" I exclaim as Peggy laughs.
Time skippedy skip
We got into our cabin. I had a big bag, well so did everyone else, so I was still trying to figure out how to carry it.
I knew I was in a dorm with the Schyler sisters, which was good because Peggy was my best friend so they all understood.
Peggy and me already made an agreement of her on the top of the bunk bed and me on bottom. I don't know why. I kinda like the bottom one.
Peggy and me made our way over first, and Peggy booted open the door and flung a 'dibsing' pillow at the top bunk of the bed nearest the radiator. "Dibs!" She screeches.
"Whooooo!" I shout, flinging my arms in the air.
We walk over there and I place my bag on the bottom bunk and Peggy climbs the ladder. Eliza and Angelica walk in and take the next door bunk, Angelica on top, Eliza bottom, so we could hop over without touching the floor and gossip at about midnight.
Peggy, Angelica and Eliza start practising while I go over to the schedule that was hanging by the door. I flinched before looking up.
"There are no spiders John, I checked." Eliza's voice rang out.
I breathe a sigh of relief before peering at the schedule. We have a 'free period' until 10:45 then our first activity, kayaking. Yay that seemed fun.
After reading it all I announce "Guys, we have 3 more roommates. And there's gonna be a fire drill."
Panic rises in me. Loud noises. Oh fuck. Fire drills fucking suck.
Peggy pauses, one leg on each ladder of the bed, and points out the alarm. I go and stand near the bunk beds as they're far away from it.
"At least we have two showers. One for girls and boys probably. Though you guys wouldn't mind-"
"Of course not John." Angelica interrupts, but I'm ok with it.
I climb up the ladder and sit on Peggy's bunk.
"Tea Time!" Eliza announces!
We squeal and I grab two of Peggy's blankets and hop onto Angelica's bed. We all have a blanket and what we do is drape one corner over one of our shoulders and the other on the person next to us so we're covered.
"OMG guys, I have tea." I lean in and whisper.
"Go on..." Angelica whispers.
"Our other roommates our Alexander Hamilton, Lafayette and Hercules Mulligan." I whisper.
"No..." Peggy whispers.
I nod.
"You know," Angelica whispers, "I sat in front of Hamilton on the bus."
"I think they all sat next to each other. They're all so annoying!" Eliza whispers.
At that point the door bursts open again.
"Buckle your seat belts guys..." I whisper, before slapping my hand over my mouth. We all erupt in giggles.
The boys are so rude they don't even say anything to us. But they're incredibly noisy.
We break apart form our Shady McBitch Tea circle and I hop over to the other ladder. "Fuck!" I squeal, but quietly.
I go down to my bed and I (1000 words) get my book out. Peggy bends over and hangs her head upside down. "Rude much!" She whispers.
"I know right. They all seem like people we can Shady McBitch Tea about." I whisper back, leaning in and darting my eyes to them. "Can I drow-" I slap my hand over my mouth. That is defiantly not something I should be voicing, I'm going to get arrested one of these days.
"Sorry..." I mumble.
"Don't be," Peggy dismisses, "I'll pass on the topic for tonight." Her head disappears and I see her whisper to Eliza who whispers to Angelica.
"Good idea." Angelica nods. We all share a silent nod.
I climb up onto Peggy's bed and read for about a minute before the fire alarm goes off. I jump and let out a squeal.
I calmly put a the bookmark back in my book and place my hands over my ears.
I try to breathe slowly.
"Oh god," I hear a voice say, and I turn to see Alexander Hamilton, who was still standing by his bunk, "Are we really roomed with the autism kid?"
(this pained to me to write)
"Hey!" Peggy practically screeched, "Fuck off! He's much more than 'the autism kid'! He's still a human too! I mean, what the fuck-!"
She was cut off by Angelica saying "Leave it Peggy, he's just a dick like everyone else. Let's go, main field I think."
I slowly remove on hand and climb down the bunks, and the sisters follow me. "Touching?" Peggy asks and I violently shake my head.
"Aww, the little autism kid doesn't like touching!" I heard Alexander say. He came right up close to me and I back away, careful of not bumping into anything.
"Uh, mon ami-" I hear a French accented voice start.
"Isn't that sweet." He hisses, before putting two hands on my shoulders and shoving me. I stumble backwards and my hip hits the edge of a bed.
It feels like the world is going to explode. My breathing is getting laboured. I can't breath. He touched me. The noise. Oh god help! Help! The touch on my hip was uneven, one side of my body. Oh god, oh god, oh god! It feels as if my brain is shutting down.
The everything goes black.
Eliza's POV
I gasp slightly as John crumples to the floor. I mean, it's not a new occurrence.
As his friends we know that sometimes he almost overloads, and then he kind of black outs. (I haven't blacked out yet but I've come close. legit scary doe-)
Peggy full on lunges at Alexander, and neither I nor Angie stop her.
We go over to John and sit him upright. By doing this he'll be conscious in a few seconds.
The alarm finally switches off and a teacher comes in. She asses the sight before sighing.
John blinks a few times and wakes up.
"Damn I think I hit my head. It hurts. My ears hurt. Oh. Ooohh. Uh. I can feel it still, ugghhhh." He mumbles as he wakes up.
"You alright John?" I ask gently.
He looks up at me and nods. "I think I banged my head." He giggles. If he's laughing then he's ok.
"Gah, it feels like I'm hungover." Ok so not so great.
I giggle with him a bit.
He looks past me and I follow his gaze. Peggy is currently beating up Alex, and Lafayette, Hercules and the teacher are desperately trying to pull her off him.
Angie sighs and stands up, going over to Peggy and pulling her off Alex. He stands up and brushes himself off.
"Your crazy." He spits.
"Me? Me?! Angie you had better let me fucking go." She shouts. Angie shrugs and lets her go.
We both look away from the scene.
Angie brings over John's water bottle and sits next to him.
John sips a bit and whispers "Don't stop Peggy."
"I wont!" We both laugh.
