[SKIP THIS CHAPTER IF YOU KNOW THE Ramayana]
Sita is the eldest daughter of King Janak. One day he found a basinet with a baby girl in a field when he was ordered to plough a field as a part of a ritual to beget an heir. He decided to adopt the baby and named her Sita.
A year after Sita was found, the King's wife Queen Sunaina gave birth to a baby girl. They named her Urmila. Sita and Urmila grew together in Mithila along with their cousin sisters Mandavi and Kirthi.
Years ran fast and the girls grow into beautiful young women. Sita gets married to the Crown Prince of Ayodya, Prince Ram. Ram was the son born to King Dasharatha and the Chief Queen. Ram had three more brothers- half brothers. Bharath born to the King Dasharatha's second wife. Lakshman and Shatrughan who are were born to the King's third wife, Queen Sumitra.
Out of these three brothers Lakshman was the one who loved Ram the most, he valued Ram more than his life.
As Sita and Ram tied the knot, the Ayodya King asked for the three other sisters of Sita to be married to Ram's three brothers. And thus Mandavi and Bharath; Urmila and Lakshman; Shatrughan and Kirthi were married. The four couples lived happily in Ayodya.
The King of Ayodya was growing old and decided to coronate his eldest son Ram, as King and retire from the stately affairs. But the second Queen, who was brainwashed by her nursemaid, forced King Dasharatha into coronating her son Bharath as the king and to send Ram into the forest for fourteen years. As Ram prepared to leave the palace for his exile, Sita too decided to go along with him. Lakshman, who can never survive for a second without Ram, decided to forsake everything, including his wife Urmila. The trio then ventured out to the forest. Following this, a few days later King Dasharatha died of despair.
Bharath and Shatrughan had been away from Ayodya when Ram was exiled, and upon their return they came to know of what had happened, Bharath refused to rule the kingdom and decided to wait for Ram to return.
In the forest, Lakshman, Ram and Sita lived the life of hermits. As they approached the last year of the exile,
Raavana, the King of Lanka gets enamoured by Sita's beauty. He went to the forest, and decided to take her along with him to Lanka and make her his own. He devised a plan so brilliant and managed to abduct Sita when Ram and Lakshman were not there to defend her.
In Lanka, Ravana tried many times to force Sita to marry him. But Sita was faithful to her husband and she refused. She waited in the royal garden of Lanka, the Ashok Vatika, for her husband to come and save her.
Ram and Lakshman come to know of the abduction, gather a troop of monkeys and march towards Lanka. A big war happened between Ram and Ravana for many long days and on the last day, Ram successfully defeated Ravana and saved his wife. Ram asked Sita to undergo a fire ordeal, to get rid of rumours about her purity and innocence. Sita does as instructed and successfully proved her purity.
After the long exile came to an end, Ram Lakshman and Sita returned to Ayodya. Ram and Sita were crowned as King and Queen. Lakshman and Urmila too united after their separation.
Soon after Ram's coronation, all Gods and Deities approached him. They break the news that Ram and Sita are oncarnates of God Vishnu and Godness Lakshmi. They invite Ram to his real abode in the Heavens. Ram denies it as he has much more to do. There is a conversation between Ram and Sita about upcoming incodents when he clearly informs Sita about what is going to happen.
A few weeks later, when news of Sita's pregnancy was announced, a rumour started to go around the kingdom. The citizens started to wonder about the biological father of Sita's unborn child. Was it her husband Ram or the Ravana, who held her captive for many days and nights? Lord Ram orders Lakshman to take Sita to the forest and leave her there, and Lakshman reluctantly does so as instructed. Urmila despises Lakshman for abandoning her sister.
A Sage provides shelter to Sita in his hermitage. Here, she gives birth to two boys, Luv and Kush, who are raised in ignorance of their identity. Valmiki composes an epic poem about the life of Ram, the Ramayana, and teaches Luv and Kush to recite it.
Luv Kush understands Lord Ram is their father. They start singing the Ramayana in Ram's court and introduce themselves as his sons. Ram orders Sita to come to Ayodhya. But the people question her purity again and start to bad mouth her again. Sita decides to leave the world rejecting the Society and reaches her Godly Adobe.
