𝓚aileena, Steve, Nat, Sam, and Maria all walked towards an abandoned building. Nat was holding her shoulder to prevent the bleeding from overflowing and her dying from blood loss. Kaileena wrapped her arms around herself as they entered through the door that looked like steel bar gates.

"GSW. She's lost atleast a pint," Maria shouted for someone when they were walking down the hallway.

"Maybe two," Sam added.

An unknown man ran in their direction, "Let me take her."

"She'll want to see him first." The group looked at Maria in confusion, who was 'him'?

Maria led them to an area in the building, she moved a clear curtain and moved out of the way so they could see.

Kaileena's eyes widened at the sight infront of her, there laid a very much alive Nick Fury in a hospital bed. He lifted his head up to look at them when he heard them coming in, "About damn time."

The Stark's face dropped, she poured her eyes out for him only for the man, himself, to not actually be dead. A loud scoff made the attention land on an angry Kaileena Stark who had a frown on her face, "Seriously? All this time, you're alive?"

Fury kept a straight face on as he looked at the girl, "Yes."

Kaileena rolled her eyes and stepped forward, pointing a finger at him accusingly. "Do you know how many precious tears I shed for you, Nicholas Joseph Fury?!"

Everyone in the room looked at Kaileena with wide eyes, no one has ever dared to call Fury by his full name. The said man raised his eyebrows and smacked his lips together.

"I don't see why you're angry, Stark. You said it yourself, you shed your 'precious' tears for me so, really, you should be happy that I'm over here alive and well."

Kaileena narrowed her eyes at him and clenched her jaw, the two of them were having a glare showdown. Steve gently placed his hand on her shoulder, she tore her eyes off of Fury to look at Steve who had a scolding look on his face.

The Stark sighed and looked back at Fury for a few seconds before going towards Nat who was now getting dragged by the man with glasses. She crossed her arms and stood there silently, wishing that Tony was there- or maybe even James.

Still, with the tension in the air, the man with the glasses set Nat down to sit down as he treated her wound, all of them had their eyes on Fury as he talked. "Lacerated spinal column, cracked sternum, shattered collarbone, perforated liver, and one hell of a headache."

"Don't forget your collapsed lung." The doctor reminded him.

"Let's not forget that. Otherwise, I'm good."

"They cut you open. Your heart stopped." Nat interjected.

Kaileena had to bite her tongue to stop herself from insulting Fury once again, she couldn't really control her mouth when she was angry.

"Tetrodotoxin B. Slows the pulse to one beat a minute. Banner developed it for stress. Didn't work so great for him, but we found a use for it." Fury explained.

"Why all the secrecy? Why not just tell us?" Steve questioned which made Kaileena nod her head in agreement and looked at Fury in curiosity and anger.

Before he could make a word out, Maria answered for him. "Any attempt on the Director's life had to look successful."

"You know what else was "successful"? The paparazzi had the glorious pleasure of taking pictures of me as I was brutally crying. Do you know how humiliating that is?" Kaileena interjected, letting out a scoff. Everyone rolled their eyes at her, "I blame you and Tony." She looked at Fury as she spoke.

Fury closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Can't kill you if you're already dead. Besides, I wasn't sure who to trust."

𝓑ack in the HYDRA base, James Buchanan Barnes sat on a medical seat with a machine on the side of his head.

A doctor was fixing his damaged metal arm as he sat there quietly.

"Sergeant Barnes." The voice of Arnim Zola voiced out as his mind went to a flashback. James sat up, alarmed. Memories of him falling down the train filled his damaged mind.

"The procedure has already started." Images of someone finding him in the thick snow and doctors coming up to him with scissors and other tools showed.

Flashes of someone removing his left arm made his breathing become heavy. "You are to be the new fist of HYDRA." He could see himself in his eyes as he lifted both his flesh and metal arm, a doctor came up to him but James started to choke him with his metal arm.

A memory of James looking across his cell to the one infront of him was shown next. It revealed a woman with long brown hair and enchanting brown eyes sat on the bed that was placed in her cell. The woman looked up at him when she noticed him looking at her, she smiled at him. "Hi, James."

Zola's face showed up once again. "Put him on ice." James heard his voice say. A third person point of view memory of him being stuck in a container that soon froze, making James freeze from the inside.

James snapped out of his trance and pushed the man who was fixing his metal arm, the doctor was sent flying back. Guns were pointed at James once he had done the action, but he just sat there panting as he thought about what he had just saw- most especially the woman whose cell was across from his.

The more he thought about her, the more he recognized her. It was the woman he met earlier on the bridge when he was fighting her and three other people.

Suddenly, flashes of the said girl popped up in his mind. Memories of them talking late at night when there weren't any guards that were ordered to keep an eye on them, memories of himself and the girl smiling at eachother and laughing quietly, memories of them training together and being set up to fight by the guards, memories of the two of them.

James' eyes widened when a clear memory flashed in his mind.

James was in his cell when he witnessed a young girl being dragged into the cell across from his. He frowned as he watched the guard being extremely rude to her, the guard pushed her into the cell as she fell down to the ground with a grunt.

"Sleep tight. You have a big day tomorrow." The guard said in English, knowing that she didn't know Russian or German yet since she had just been taken a few months ago and she didn't exactly have time to learn it since all she's been doing is being HYDRA's little serum taker.

The girl dragged her body and sat up against the wall, closing her eyes. James could see that she was extremely tired, she had dark eye bags and she looked like she hasn't slept in a week and her long brunette hair was in tangles.

She looked in his direction when she felt someone staring at her, she tilted her head at him when he didn't look away even after he got caught staring.

She tiredly lifted her hand up and tilted it a bit to the side, giving him a small wave. James, however, didn't reply back, he just kept staring at her. She sighed and moved her upper body to face him, "Hey."

Still, James didn't answer which made her look away from him but she looked back at him with a small smile on her pink lips.

"I'm Elena. What's your name?" She asked him.

James stayed silent. After about three minutes of him not saying a word, 'Elena' smacked her dry lips together and was about to stand up but his deep voice stopped her.

"James."

Elena looked at him to see him standing up, she stared at him for a moment. She smiled at 'James' as he tried to give her one back; keyword: tried. It came out as a small grimace which Elena silently giggled at.

"Nice to meet you, James."

James opened his eyes and a loud gasp came out of his mouth. "Elena . . ." He muttered as his eyebrows furrowed.

When he said her name, something in him snapped- not a bad murderous kind of snap, a strangely good one.

James blinked rapidly and looked up only to see Alexander Pierce walking into the room he was in as the man walked towards him. James quickly placed a straight face on, he decided to play smart and pretend that whatever happened to him never happened.

If Pierce knew about his memories - especially of Elena - he would, no doubt, remove them. And he didn't want that.

"Mission report." Pierce asked him but James didn't more nor did he speak. "Mission report now." Still no response.

Pierce walked closer to the metal-armed man and crouched down to his level so they were face to face. James' head turned to the side when Pierce slapped him in anger.

James furrowed his eyebrows and looked back at Pierce, "The man on the bridge. Who was he?" He asked, not bothering to mention Kaileena for his own memories' safety.

"You met him earlier this week on another assignment," Pierce explained, lying.

James blinked a few times, he knew that Pierce was lying. "I knew him."

Pierce looked down to the ground before sitting across from HYDRA's most prized possession. "Your work has been a gift to mankind. You shaped the century. And I need you to do it one more time. Society's at a tipping point between order and chaos. And tomorrow morning, we're gonna give it a push. But, if you don't do your part, I can't do mine."

James looked everywhere but Pierce's eyes, he was afraid that if Pierce saw the look in his eyes then he would surely know about James' little trip to memory lane.

"And HYDRA can't give the world the freedom it deserves." Pierce finished.

James finally looked at him, "But I knew him." He said in denial.

Pierce sighed and pursed his lips before getting up from the chair, "Prep him. He's been out of cryo freeze too long. Then wipe him and start over." James' eyes widened a little bit at the last sentence, he didn't want to forget everything he just found out about.

Two guards went closer to him and were about to place their hands on his shoulders but James took a hold of them before the two men could even place a finger on him. He looked at them with a dangerous and murderous look, he was not going to play as a ragdoll to HYDRA anymore.

He wanted to be free.

And that was what he intended to achieve.

How? By escaping and looking for the only person who could truly help him.

The one and only, Kaileena Stark.
