Dinner at the Jaggers'
Author's note: I'm sorry for not posting before, the "chapter's picture" was in my computer and it's not working very well. This is a picture from their real primary class, I just picked a random girl to be Jane :)
The next day, I went to Carousel. They were all already there when I arrived. I felt very nervous and I didn't know how Michael was going to act.
-Jane! - he got up and hugged me - I'm glad you came!
-Damn, Jane! Where have you been? - Keith asked.
-Oh, I... I've been busy.
I sat and ordered a milkshake.
-So... - Keith started to talk - Did you all see that the Elvis movie is in the cinema? You know, that one in Hawaii! I have some money for it, I can't wait to watch it!! We can see it tonight! What do you think?
-Uh... Jane and I already saw it... I'm sorry.
Everyone stopped and stared at us.
-Oh. - he raised his eyebrows - So you're dating?
-I think you can call it that.
-Hm. Okay. So I guess we are going to watch it without you two then, if you don't care.
-Of course we don't. We watched it without you, didn't we?

When we left Carousel, we all went to Bob's house. It was the first time there for me and Keith. His house was also in the other side of Dartford, and it was even more sophisticated than Michael's. Especially for one thing: a BUTLER. Yes, a butler, with a suit and everything.
"-Can I get you anything, sir?
-Vodka and lime, please - Keith said.
-Certainly, sir."
"I really felt like a lord, nearly asked for my coronet when I left" - Keith said in the end of the day.
The boys went to a room where Bob and his father's records were. I decided to wait for them in his bedroom. But suddenly, Keith comes in.
-Hey!
-Oh, hello!
-So... You and Mick, uh?
-Yeah... I guess you were right all the time.
-I was. Are you his girlfriend now?
-Yes... I mean No! I don't know, I wouldn't say I'm his girlfriend...
-Sorry, I just thought it was a serious thing. I mean, I saw you at his house in the morning a month ago...
-His car. I was taking his car back.
-I know, I know. I'm sorry for being so unkind... I've been acting like this since... Since the beginning. It's your life. Just want you to know you can count on me. I'm happy for you and Mick.
-Thanks. And don't worry, it's okay. I understand.
-So... Still friends?
-Of course! - I hugged him.
-Jane, you won't believe it! - Michael gets in. He looks at us and then come back to talk, a bit lower - Uh... Look at this, Bob has Muddy Waters' debut album! Isn't it amazing?

When the boys went to the movies, Michael and I left Bob's house.
-Are you sure you can't stay more time with me? - Michael asked me when he took me home.
-Yeah, my parents are not happy with me arriving late every Friday and Saturday...
-But nothing about Sunday, right?
-What do you mean?
-Do you want to go out tomorrow?
-I thought we agreed with twice a week.
-Yeah but we didn't have any time alone today... What do you think about a dinner? at my house?
-You mean... With your family?
-Yes! I'm sure they would love to meet you.
-I don't want to bother...
-Of course you won't! I'm sure my mother likes you. It won't be a problem to cook for five.
Five. After so many years I forgot Michael had a brother. He wasn't home the times I went to his house.
-Okay then. It sounds nice. But I have to ask my parents.
-I'll pick you up at 6:30.
I agreed and got out of the car. But then he opened the window and called me.
-Jane... Can I ask you something?
-Of course.
-Don't you think that... You know... That maybe... Keith likes you?
-What? He is my friend! Come on, Michael! Will you say you are jealous because of a hug?
-No, it's not the hug... I don't know, it's stupid, isn't it?
-Kinda. You don't have to be jealous. I like you.
He smiled and got closer for a kiss.

6:45. Where's him? I started to get worried. Did he forget?
-A dinner with his family... - Mom said - I told you it was going to be a serious thing, didn't I?
-Do you think he is coming?
-I'm sure he is.
About 10 minutes later he arrived and I opened the door this time, even though my mom came after me. Maybe she was right. Maybe he really wants a relationship.
-Hey! I'm so sorry for being late... Let's go?
-Sure, no problem!
-Good evening, Michael! - Mom said - How are you?
- I'm fine, mrs Parker. What about you?
-I'm fine as well. And your mother? I really miss her.
-She's doing well! I'm sure she misses you too!
-Good to know! Ok, you better go, I don't want to make your family wait.
-Don't worry with this! My mom was still cooking when I left home.
-Right... Oh! I almost forgot! Tell her to be careful. Dartford is becoming dangerous! Mrs Robinson from next door told me that her husband saw someone in their garden Last Friday night - Michael and I looked to each other - God only knows what would have happened if he didn't see it. They could have gotten in the house!
-It must have been just some teenagers. You know how the young people are today...
-Teenagers or not, this is absolutely dangerous.
-You're right, I'll give her your advice.
The moment we turned around, we couldn't hold the laughter.

-Mom! We arrived!
-Jane! - she came and hugged me - It's so good to have you here! You can sit, wait just a minute as I serve. Don't you want to take your coat off?
-Oh, thank you so much, I do - I took it off and Michael hung it up.
Michael and his younger brother helped her and in not too long the dinner was served. We were all sitting around the table, in an uncomfortable silence. There were many dishes - Baked chicken, autumn salad, mashed potatoes.
-Chris, can you hand me the rice, please? - Mrs Jagger asked to Michael's brother.
Christopher was his name. He seemed to be about 13 or 14 years old. He did it and the silence continued, as we served ourselves.
-So, Jane - Mrs Parker started to talk again - Mike talks a lot about you.
-Too much, I'd say. - Chris added and Michael blushed.
-Jane Parker, right? - Mr Jagger asked me - I remember you. As a kid, running in the garden. You used to come to Mike's parties too. I met your father a couple years ago.
-He told me so.
-It's good to see a girl here.
-And here we go again - Michael rolled his eyes - why do you two act like I never had a girlfriend?
-Because it's true, isn't it?
-No, it's not! What about Bridget? It wasn't a long time ago, though!
-We didn't like her - Chris said.
-What Chris means is... - Mrs Jagger intruded - we knew it wasn't going to last. She wasn't the girl for you.
-And you must admit that eighteen years old is too late to start to have girlfriends. - Chris joked.
-Seventeen! I wasn't eighteen yet when we started...
-What? A week or two before your birthday?
-Okay, boys. It's enough. - Mrs Jagger interrupted - It's not time to talk about previous relationships. Let's talk about now, about him and about Jane.
It was fun. I talked about me, Michael talked about him. Mrs Jagger told me lots of stories, some of them very funny.
She told me how jealous he was when Chris was born. Michael was only four and didn't like the idea of another member in the family - especially a cute little brother! He always wanted to have the attention - what doesn't surprises me. Mr Jagger told that once they went to the beach, when Christopher was still a baby, and Michael was so upset about the younger brother that started to run away and destroy the other kids' sand castles.
Mrs Jagger also told me that two years ago, in a basketball game - captain of the team, who knew? - Michael had an accident and bit his tongue, losing a part of it. It surprised me. She said he spent almost a week without saying a word. Everyone thought he would never sing that good again, that it was the end of the band. But he surprised everyone and came back better than never. According to her, his way to sing completely changed after this.
There were other stories, and I enjoyed listening to all of them. When we finished eating dinner, she served the dessert - blueberry pie - and it didn't end after that. She showed me some photos of Michael as a child. He felt very embarrassed but I found them really cute. There was even one of our class in the Primary where we could see Michael, Keith and me.
After all, I had to go. I thanked them for the wonderful time and Michael took me home.
-Thank you so much for inviting me. It was so nice!
-You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it. I had a great time as well. Unless for when they started to tell embarrassing things about me or showing embarrassing pictures - He laughed.
-They weren't embarrassing! I really liked the stories and the photos!
-It was true what he said... About girls.
I didn't expect this. Michael just seemed to be someone that had a lot of girlfriends. Or at least it was what he wanted people to think. Maybe, he had problems with them.
-I didn't know it.
-Yeah, girls never thought about me this way. I've never been more than a friend. When I was a young teen, I had this stupid goal of having girlfriends. Everyone had I guess. But it didn't matter how hard I tried, I guess I just wasn't attractive for them.
-I thought you were popular with girls.
-I think that's what I make people think. But actually, I'm very different. I don't know, it will sound very stupid, but I thought that maybe if I acted like this, girls wouldn't find me insecure then I'd have a chance.
-But what about that girl you talked about? Bridget, right?
-Oh, yes. Bridget. She was the closest to serious girlfriend I ever had.
-What happened?
-Well, we started to date in July, this year. Chris was right when he said I was about to turn eighteen when we started. It lasted about two months. She was beautiful and nice but I realized that I didn't like her that way. It just didn't feel right to keep it.
-This is very recent... You don't feel anything about her anymore, do you?
-No! As I said, I didn't like her that way. I never felt anything like that for anyone until I met you. - I blushed.
I felt just the same.
Author's note: I thought you'd like to know:
•Bridget was Mick's first serious girlfriend in real life, but according to "MICK: The Wild Life and Mad Genius of Jagger", it happened when he was 19, but it just wouldn't fit the story, right?
•I got the dialogue between Keith and the Butler - and other details of the fic - from the letter Keith wrote to his aunt in 1962, where he tells her about his meeting with Mick and the beginning of the band. He doesn't say it was at Bob's house, but a Mick's friend.
•The stories Mick's mom tells Jane are all real :)
Many other details in this story are based in the real one, I just think you'd find it boring if I told you the real story behind them.
