"Hold on, you want me to do what?" Ladybug nearly spat out her drink.
"I don't want you to do anything." Alya held up her hands. "Adrien heard from his dad that this was a new direction they wanted to take. He then asked me if I could tell you because he feels like you have a likelier chance of saying yes."
"Gabriel Agreste wants me to model for him. Me specifically. Ladybug."
"Yes. He had hoped my connections with you could put the two of you in contact with one another."
"Oh my gosh." Ladybug grinned, already slipping into daydreams.
When Alya had requested for them to meet up for lunch, Ladybug had been expecting another interview. Or maybe going over a couple of articles that Alya wanted to publish. Not this.
Gabriel Agreste had sought her out specifically to do a shoot with his son! She could spend an entire day with Adrien. They would hit it off automatically, and afterwards he would ask her out to the movies! They would go wearing matching disguises and when she drops him off at the mansion, he kisses her. Oh, she could see it now.
"Ladybug? Earth to Ladybug?"
"Oh! Sorry Alya, I was thinking this through. I have to be very careful about what I agree to do as Ladybug."
"I understand, but M. Agreste would like your answer as soon as possible."
On one hand, Ladybug wasn't a celebrity. She wasn't supposed to do photo shoots, even the interviews she's done are few and far between! Most of them were with Alya or Nadia, someone she knew she could trust. But she could spend the entire day with Adrien...
"Ok, I'll do it!" Ladybug agreed.
"Really? Alright, fantastic! I'll let M. Agreste know right away and then get back to you with details."
"Oh, thank you Alya, thank you!" Ladybug leaned forward and hugged the girl.
"Anytime, LB, anytime."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"'M. Agreste will be expecting you at the Place des Voges at 9 in the morning on Saturday. Do NOT be late.'" Ladybug muttered, reading Alya's text.
Thank the lord the park was right next to her house. Heaven forbid she ever has to get up before 8 on a Saturday. She had made sure she was in position thirty minutes before the shoot started, and was surprised to see the majority of people were already there. The park seemingly had been rented out by Gabriel's brand because she didn't see anyone else there.
Taking a deep breath, Ladybug left the rooftops and landed at the site.
"Mlle. Ladybug! You're here! I'm so glad that you were able to make it. My name is Vincent Giuseppe, but everyone calls me Giuseppe. I'll be your photographer for today." A tall man with a camera around his neck came up and introduced himself with a thick Italian accent. Ladybug recognized him as Adrien's regular photographer.
She would be lying if she said she wasn't relieved to see him. It was nice to know that her photo was going to be taken by someone Adrien worked with on a regular basis. She figured Adrien wouldn't put up with him if he wasn't kind.
"Nice to meet you, Giuseppe. Fair warning, I've never modeled before in my life, so I'm sorry in advance." She shook his hand, already feeling a bit more relaxed.
"Nonsense! Everyone can model. You are the pasta sauce and I'm going to make you into tasty spaghetti for the public to consume." He laughed joyously.
"Uh-huh."
"Giuseppe, she just got here! She doesn't need your spaghetti metaphors, quite yet." A familiar voice rang out behind her. She turned around to see Adrien standing there, looking as good as ever. "Hello, Ladybug." He greeted her. "It's nice to finally see you when there's not impending doom."
"Y-yeah, we only ever seem to interact when there's an akuma chasing after you." She giggled, trying her hardest to keep her composure.
"Well hopefully, I won't need saving today, right Giuseppe?"
"Depends on how good you look, my boy! If the boss is happy, so am I." Giuseppe put a hand on Adrien's shoulder. "Now, why don't you show Mlle. Ladybug around, hmm? And maybe even the clothes we will be modeling?"
"Sure thing! Come on, we've got some time before we officially have to start." Adrien looped his arm around her shoulders.
"O-oh, alright." She felt her face grow hot as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ears.
"So," Adrien began to lead her into the maze of different tents and sets, with what had to be 50 people running around. "I guess my dad thought it would be good for us to do a shoot together. Makes his brand seem good, gets you out in the public eye a little bit, win-win. However, we both understand that you need to model whilst in your suit for protection reasons, right?"
"That would be preferable, yes."
"So unfortunately, that kinda limits what you get to wear. Not a lot looks good on red with black spots. However! The line that we're modeling today comes with all sorts of accessories, so while I'm modeling the outfits, you're modeling the complimenting pieces."
"Okay." Ladybug wanted to pay attention, but she could tell her focus was torn into two separate ways.
She looked around, trying to find different landmarks to help her navigate the area. To her dismay, all of the tents looked the exact same. There wasn't any indication what they were for. She really hoped she and Adrien didn't get separated. If they did, she knew she would get hopelessly lost.
They stopped in front of a large tent, and Adrien gave her a reassuring grin.
"I know it can be very confusing about navigating sets, but I'll be here to help. There's really only three places you need to worry about anyways, wardrobe, hair and makeup, and finally where we're actually going to be taking pictures. Maybe craft services if this runs long, or we can convince someone to call in food." Adrien explained. "This tent here is wardrobe. All of our different clothes and accessories will be in here." The grin on his face took on something much more mischievous. "Wanna see?"
"Yes!" Ladybug eagerly agreed, and Adrien pulled her into the tent.
Inside was beautiful. Rows and rows of unreleased Gabriel clothing lined the tent. There was a large table filled with accessories. There were assorted hats, scarves, and coats hanging up on hooks. This was Ladybug's dream.
"Oh my gosh, we're modeling this year's fall collection, aren't we? I've never seen these designs before! These are complete secrets to the general public." Ladybug took out an auburn dress that she immediately saw Alya wearing.
"Surprise! Now keep it a secret, okay? This stays between the two of us." Adrien put a finger to his lips.
"And everyone else here." She deadpanned.
"Ok, yes technically. But still! You get to see the clothes before they release and you'll be modeling a few of them. I think our instructions are for you to wear a lot of solid black and white. Along with some reds and whatever else Giuseppe thinks wouldn't clash with your suit."
"Okay."
"Now over here is hair and makeup..."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Alright, everyone to hair and makeup!" Veronica, the one leading the shoot, called. Along with her and Adrien's shoot, there were several other models there. Ladybug was pleased to see Juleka there, among the crowd. "Agreste and Ladybug, you two need to be on set three in 30! Couffaine and Baudelaire you need to be on set five in..."
"Come on. You ready for the most fun you've ever had in your life?" Adrien rolled his eyes.
"The way you say that makes me inclined to not believe that this will be fun."
"What? No way! Hair and makeup is the best part." His mouth was saying, but his eyes screamed 'help me.'
"Well, lead the way M. Agreste."
"Please," Adrien grinned as he and Ladybug began to make their way towards the tent. "M. Agreste is my father. I'm M. Perfect." He flipped his hair back.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I don't know how I got you confused." She curtsied. "M. Perfect."
"Come on," Adrien laughed, "hair and makeup is over here and after that, the fun stuff begins."
"I bet you're just exaggerating." Ladybug rolled her eyes, smiling. "It can't possibly be that bad."
It was in fact, that bad.
Ladybug normally liked having her hair played with. She loved having her mother brush it and put it into all sorts of cute smiles. And while she was never big on makeup, she did like wearing the occasional eye shadow and wore lip gloss on the daily. She used to have Juleka practice makeup on her when they were little.
Her stylist, Dominique, was nothing like her mother or Juleka. He immediately took out her ribbons and began pulling on her hair. It was no longer brushing, it was pulling. Then he began to style her hair in any way that he pleased. He didn't seem to understand that her hair wasn't long enough to put into french braids. Every time he would complete a hairstyle, he would undo it and have to start all over again. He finally settled on a bun, surrounded by a braid, with two strands falling from her face. Ladybug breathed a sigh of relief, it was over.
She was right, the easy part was over.
Makeup was worse, oh so worse. If she thought that she could catch a break with makeup, boy was she wrong. Dominique put so many different creams and powders on her, she lost track about which was which. It felt unnatural on her face, and just felt a little bit gross. She had never respected makeup artists more than in that moment. Of course, she was sure the mask made things a bit more difficult for Dominique. He was also devastated that he couldn't put makeup on her eyes. She tried to apologize, but he would hear none of it. Finally, after concealer, and contour, and who knows what else, it was over.
And when she saw herself in the mirror, she had to gasp. She had never looked more beautiful in her life.
"Thank you, Dominique." She breathed, still in shock that the girl in the mirror was her.
"I did nothing." He said. "I only brought out your inner beauty. You still look like you, Ladybug. People believe makeup is all about covering up what is there to make it more normal. I disagree. Makeup is supposed to reflect your true self, showing just how beautiful you can look. Not to say I can't appreciate a good dramatic look. Now, shoo! You have ten minutes to get to set!"
Twenty minutes? That's all it had been? It felt like 20 hours. Still, she appreciated Dominique in a weird way. It might've been tortuous, but damn did she feel good.
She needed to start wearing makeup more often.
"Adrien? Are you done?" Ladybug asked, exiting her booth and entering Adrien's.
"Yeah, almost." Adrien sat still as his stylist applied a bit of eye shadow. Not overbearing, just enough to make his eyes pop. His stylist had pulled his hair back, and he looked almost like how John Travolta did in Grease. She gulped as he opened his eyes.
Adrien Agreste in eyeliner was a dangerous sight.
"G-good, because we have ten minutes to get to our set."
"Alright, you're done." His stylist said, blowing a bubble of pink gum.
"Wow... you look," Adrien gaped as he approached her. "Beautiful."
Ladybug hoped the blush was covered by the makeup.
"Thank you. You don't look half bad yourself, M. Perfect." She playfully elbowed him. "Now come on! We're going to be late!"
"Okay, okay, let's go!"
They rushed through the halls of tents, laughing the entire way.
"We're here!" Adrien cheered as they found Giuseppe.
"We're here! And we're not late!" Ladybug grinned.
"Barely, now your clothes are over there." He pointed to two racks. Ladybug recognized some of the clothes from the wardrobe earlier. "Go and change behind that screen." He pointed to a small fold out screen, set up against the back of a tent. "The outfits go in numerical order from first to last."
Ladybug walked over to her wrack of clothes and accessories she would be modeling. She noticed there was a pair of black leggings and gloves and the auburn dress from earlier, along with fake glasses and a book prop.
"Now, today M. Agreste wants to play off of a good girl and bad boy theme. Ladybug, the model citizen, and Adrien, the local heartbreaker." Giuseppe reported as Ladybug disappeared behind the screen.
Adrien, who had no reservations about changing shirts for a photoshoot, was in a tight white t-shirt and a leather jacket with an auburn lining that matched her dress.
"I'm glad you found the leggings and gloves, M. Agreste wanted to make sure he could show off the feminie clothes as well. We knew it would clash with your outfit, however, so this is what we came up with."
"Thank you, Giuseppe."
"Now! Let's start the shoot. Adriano I want you to lean against the wall here, Mlle. Ladybug, I want you to stand next to him. Have your arms around her waist. I want Mlle. Ladybug to look unimpressed and Adriano, you give me your best smolder!" Giuseppe held the camera up as the two got into position.
Ladybug tried her best to look uninterested, but Adrien looked too good like that. The grin paired with the outfit paired with the makeup? It was too much for her poor heart to take.
"Mlle. Ladybug, I need you to tone down the smittenness. We are telling the story of you two falling in love! And you cannot be in love with him yet, it gets rid of the intrigue."
"O-oh, right. Sorry."
"You know, if it helps, you can always picture me to be Chat Noir." Adrien suggested. "Isn't he always flirting with you?"
"Y-yeah." His suggestion took her off gaurd. How did he know that?
"And since you're not interested, it would work, right?"
"We can try it."
"Back to positions!"
Ladybug felt her heart swoop into her stomach as Adrien pulled her in and gave her a grin. It was the same cheshire grin that Chat always gave her, and that made her come to her senses. She was just hanging out with her partner, that's all this was.
"Yes! Perfetto! Hold that pose!" Giuseppe cheered, and Ladybug heard the clicks of the camera behind her.
"Told you it would work." Adrien whispered.
"Shut up, Chat." She hissed, trying to keep her concentration.
Was it just her, or did Adrien's grin only get wider?
"Alright, next outfit!" Giuseppe sang. "Oh, this is going to be amazing." He gushed, before switching over to Italian.
From there, the shoot ran smoothly. They had a total of five outfits to model, which would tell the story of the two falling in love. One with her being uninterested, the next of them talking, the next position was of them being friends, then one of her obvious interest, and finally the two being in love.
She was rather impressed with herself, seeing Adrien as Chat was actually working! She was able to get through the second and third outfit without error.
When they got to the fourth, featuring Ladybug in a jacket that reminded her of an American letterman jacket and Adrien in biker gear, when they began having problems. They were supposed to be leaning up against the wall they had been using for a prop the entire time. Adrien was supposed to be flustered, as she played with a strand of hair. She was supposed to look flirty, but she was afraid she failed. Miserably.
"No, no, Mlle. Ladybug, you still look too nervous. Remember, he returns your feelings and you want to make him blush." Giuseppe tried to remain patient with her, but she could tell she was wearing him thin.
"Sorry, sorry." She apologized again. She wasn't sure what it was, but picturing Adrien as Chat Noir wasn't working anymore. Which was a bit of a problem, because how in the world was she supposed to survive the shoot without her expert strategy?
"Hey, Ladybug." Adrien whispered, sensing her nerves.
"Yeah?"
"Why was the cat wearing a dress?" He grinned, but Ladybug just looked at him, unsure where this was going.
"Why?"
"Because she was feline fine." He finished.
"Oh my god." Ladybug groaned.
"Why don't cats like online shopping? They prefer a cat-alouge!"
"That one was worse!"
"What did the cat say when he lost all his money? I'm paw." Adrien continued, still with that big ol' grin on his face.
"Stop!" But she was beginning to laugh.
"What do you call a cat that was caught by the police? A purrrpetrator! What do you call a criminal that has nine lives? A cat burglar!"
'Huh, that's odd.' Ladybug thought as Adrien continued. That was the exact same joke Chat Noir had told her the other night. Still, Adrien continued with a grin that was looking more and more familiar by the second.
"Wanna hear a bad cat joke?"
"They've all been bad." She deadpanned.
"Just kitten!" Adrien finished, looking so pleased with himself that Ladybug had to laugh.
'Strange. Two of the exact same jokes in a row.'
"Do you feel a bit less nervous now?" Adrien asked, gazing at her with a soft smile. She grinned, an idea already forming in her mind.
"Hey hot stuff," she leaned forwards into him. "How are you feline? Because you're purrfect, I'm not kitten." She winked, and blew him a kiss.
Adrien's eyes grew wide as if on cue. His face went from pale to a deep red in a matter of seconds as his jaw dropped. Ladybug almost laughed. Almost.
"Yes! That's exactly it! See I knew you two were naturals. Now, just one last thing to shoot. Go and get changed."
Ladybug hurried behind the screen, taking her few last items with her. Her head was reeling. It probably was just a coincidence! Adrien just got the jokes from the same website Chat did. But that cat burglar joke! Chat had been so proud of that one, saying he made it up all by himself. Dots were connecting far too fast for Ladybug's liking. She needed a distraction and she needed one fast.
"Alright! Now for our grand finale, I will settle for no less than a kiss!" Giuseppe gushed.
"What?" Ladybug and Adrien shrieked.
"You heard me, I need a kiss. It will be a perfect conclusion to this masterpiece of a story!"
"Giuseppe, Ladybug might not be comfortable with kissing me. I wouldn't want to force her into anything she didn't want to-."
"I'll do it." She intervened before Adrien could convince him otherwise. "It's just a kiss, right?" She shrugged, trying to act more casual than she felt. Adrien whirled around, gobsmacked.
"A-are you sure?"
"I'm sure." She nodded. Look at her go! She didn't stutter! Although on the inside she was screaming, she was about to kiss Adrien! Adrien! The guy who she had wanted to kiss for the longest time.
"Alright... if you insist." Adrien said, grabbing her hands in his.
"I do." She gave him a smile, squeezing his hands. If she was right about this, everything would be different. A prospect that both excited and terrified her. And if she wasn't? Oh well, she still got to kiss her crush.
"Okay, then." Adrien leaned in, and Ladybug felt her eyes flutter shut. It seemed like forever, waiting there with her lips puckered for Adrien to kiss her.
And then, it happened. He! Was! Kissing! Her!
There were no fireworks, only butterflies and warmth. His lips were soft, like she had always dreamed of. She wished the kiss would last forever, but all good things must come to an end. He pulled back, sooner than Ladybug would've liked.
"Great! That's all I needed! Mlle. Ladybug, you did fantastic for your first time, Adriano as good as ever!" Giuseppe continued to ramble, but Ladybug wasn't paying attention to him.
No, her focus was on the boy in front of her, who looked like he was in a daze.
"Do you wanna go out with me?" Ladybug asked, still riding the high from their kiss.
"What?" Adrien choked on his own spit.
"You heard me, do you want to go out with me?"
"Where is this coming from?" Adrien looked around rapidly. "Is this some sort of prank? Who dared you to do this?"
"Do you... not want to?" Ladybug felt her heart sink, and not in a good way.
"No! Of course I want to! But you've always rejected me and now suddenly you're asking me out after one shoot? Is this all it took? No red roses or dramatic declarations? Just modeling?" Adrien began to pace, his eyes wide and his voice an octave higher than usual.
"Sure. Just modeling."
"I can't believe-." He stopped mid sentence.
"Realize what you did there, didn't you?" Ladybug walked forward to him, the grin on her face rapidly growing.
Adrien looked down at his shoes, slowly nodding.
"Don't worry, you're not in trouble. I promise." She placed a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm not?"
"Nope!"
"You really just asked me out." Adrien breathed.
"Yep!"
"Oh my gosh! Ladybug just asked me out, this is the best day of my life!" He swept her up in his arms, spinning her around.
"Adrien, let me down!" She squealed.
"Never!" He cheered, but he set her down anyway.
"So, pick me up at 18:00 this Friday? At our usual place?"
"Yes, absolutely, definitely!" Adrien nodded frantically.
"Alright then," Ladybug got out her yo-yo.
"Alright, I guess I'll see you then."
"I'll be looking forward to it." She shot him a wink, relishing in his bashfulness. "Chat Noir." She pecked her partner's cheek, and swung off.
She wouldn't realize until arriving home that she had forgotten to take off her clothes from the shoot. Ladybug broke out in laughter.
Love really did make you blind.
