Chapter Thirteen
* * *
Sage stayed awake, her wolf whining all over again at the absence of her mate. And if she thought too long during the day, the phantom attacks would take over.
The first time that happened, the pups snuck in and cuddled into their mother—Course it was extra sweet when they were in their onesies and diaper when they switched to fur.
This time, however, her body rose up from her bed and she stared at the door. Her wolf scratched at the surface and she couldn't place the reason why.
Darius? What's happening?
Sounds like your wolf wants her Alpha. Hopefully the witches can figure out what that bullet was hun, it must be making it harder for Remus to come back this way...
He's awake?
What does your wolf say Sa—
IS HE AWAKE DARIUS?!
YOU DON'T HAVE TO YELL, WE'RE THE ONLY ONE'S IN THIS LINK YOU MOODY SHE-WOLF. GO LISTEN TO YOUR WOLF AND CHECK.
That was all Sage needed to hear as she threw the covers over her body and hurried to get dressed into something other than just shorts and a bra. With a sweater on and Sage attempting to hop around trying to get into a pair of leggings.
She was getting laughed at through realms by Darius.
You're actually precious.
Are pups awake?
Nah, better to let them sleep too. He won't be too coherent for them to understand.
Sage took his advice and hurried to her dad's bedroom, he had taken one of the other bedrooms upstairs while Jackson had the privacy downstairs for the time being. Especially with the way going on, she peered in and close to instantly Hayes found himself up and alert.
"I think Remmy's waking up, stay here with pups?"
"I got it covered bubbles, make sure your mate's alright." She hurried downstairs and off towards the infirmary, it was that moment she really wished she tried again with driving.
Instead, she half sprinted in the middle of the night, hoping it would settle her wolf and calm her down. Which caused her to remain outside until she truly found a fluent breath.
The door were always open with a healer taking the night shift, and even while Sage was the Luna, Kenzie gave her a disappointed gaze, especially when she glanced at the clock.
"Wolf keeps scratching, I want to check on Remus." That was certainly a sign if the Luna felt something about the Alpha and thus the healer escorted Sage to the Alpha's room.
It took all of a few seconds for Remus to smell Sage's presence and a growl escaped him, almost begging her to come closer and goddess about Sage had to stop herself from tackling him.
Instead, she willed herself to walk carefully and wrapped her hands into his. "Remmy? Can you hear me?" She questioned, and a moan of some sort escaped him.
Does he need help coming back?
Is that what your wolf is saying or your other part?
Why do you always ask question after I ask question, doesn't help.
It does, I promise you—Take a minute to think about it, wolfie. If that was your first thought then maybe that's what needs to be done. Remember, I can't say yes or no. I'm bound.
Sage realized that Darius was trying to work around what needed to be done, so she waited for Kenzie to leave before biting her wrist with her elonged fangs.
It was difficult to bite her palm, but she managed well enough to give Remus to drink.
My blood special. Right? That's why master likes my blood too.
There's my smart lil Luna, remember what you said, sweetheart. Remember that.
"Please wake up Remmy...Pack needs you, pups need you—Goddess please, I need you." Sage's eyes burned, though with no one speculating the two, her eyes had changed to a solid color.
Though it was not black like they usually are, the second Remus' eyes popped open he was greeted with the beautiful grey pupils that caused him to growl again.
But this time it panned out into a whine.
"Sage?" He said, his voice husky and rough as could be that she bent over to the pitcher on the side of the bed...Putting a few drops of her blood into the water on purpose and hoping that perhaps it would help him recover quicker.
Though asking Darius was pointless it'd seem.
"Drink. You need to drink." He didn't listen right away, instead, he tried to sit up, completely disoriented to where he was that his eyes jump around this way and that. So she placed a curled hand over one side of his face, trying to stop him from getting distracted.
Bringing the cup to his lips he suddenly felt the urge to down the glass, and perhaps it was the motherly instinct within her. But she slowed his pace and wiped the water from his lips as she remained sitting lightly on his lap.
When he finished the last of the water, the color in his skin started to return and Sage didn't hesitate to caress his cheeks with her hands. Swiping away the sleep in his eyes and making sure that she could feel his erratic breathing.
"You left...Where did you go?"
"W-what?"
"I tell everyone you were okay, Eli don't believe me. But you were talking to someone. Who?"
"M-my mom. My mom was...There." Sage leaned her forehead against his and sighed in utter relief.
"W-where's the pups? Wh-where's Miles?"
"Pups are okay, they're sleeping...It's really early in the morning, I feel you wake up. Alpha Miles is dead, Remmy."
"He's dead? What the fu—what happened?!" His rash decision to move erupted a sense of his own phantom pain that rendered him almost immobile as he relieved it.
"I send the bullet to witches, they going to look at it. I tried to get silver stuff out and then heal you...But I think your mom wants to talk to you. Are you okay?" Remus looked at her in awe, there was no hesitation in her voice, he wasn't used to this level of sureness in her tone.
Sometimes it popped up but he couldn't help but be proud of hearing her speak with such conviction, and the way his hands started trailing her body only to pull her down to cuddle beside him caused her to hum in the bliss she's been hearing for the past few weeks.
"Does it still hurt?"
"Not when my beautiful mate is hugging it better. Are you sure the pups are okay? We can go home and—"
"Pups are fine. I tell dad that I am here to see you. A lot happened." She said, kissing his bare chest and closing her eyes, hoping that this isn't a dream.
I promise this isn't a dream little Luna, just remember that he might be all that happy about waking up to a war.
That's why I'm waiting for tomorrow.
Sage felt up his arms, her little ticks in making sure that he was feeling alright were as adorable as can be. But Remus felt his wolf urging him to get up and get to work.
More importantly, suffocate himself in the smell of his pups like he was doing with his mate.
"I missed you too, munchkin."
"But you're asleep, you can't miss me when you're asleep."
"Mom talked to me...She said she's watching over her grandpups and that she would visit you when you were away." Sage's eyes popped open again as she tried to remember if there was any time she felt a presence.
"Always thought it was my mama, she was warm...I don't remember—Or maybe that was someone else." Remus for sure thought it was the medication that caused his mind to formulate Sage's usual inaccurate sentences into something actually correct.
But it had been nearly a month, though to him it felt like he'd been shot just yesterday.
"Have a lot to tell you. You missed a lot."
"How long have I been asleep?" Sage mumbled the answer into his side, and he hummed but then he started to translate on the word.
"A mont—A MONTH?!" Sage flinched at her mate's yell, and sure enough, Kenzie had rushed into the room at the ready. But instead of reprimanding her leaders, she issued a blessing to the Moon Goddess.
"We tell pack tomorrow."
"Alright Luna, but I might need you to stand up while I check the Alpha—If he's in the clear you two can head home." Sage gasped and scrambled up from the bed and sat on the closest chair, truthfully Remus was in perfect health. The only thing that really left a mark was the bullet's scar, otherwise, he was deemed healthy.
Or so he thought until he tried to take his first step.
"Is the pain coming from the bullet site, Alpha?" The healer questioned, and Remus sucked in a breath as it was more than painful.
"I was worried about that, we might have to call the witches." While Remus had just woken up, it was clear that whatever the exchanged look between her and his mate was causing a bit of siren to render in his brain.
"Can't call witches..."
"Luna—"
"No, too dangerous. We ask Raven first, then we call and ask. I don't want them in trouble too." Without saying much on the side what was happening, it allowed Remus to at least attempt to relax.
"What's going on, munchkin?"
"Karma." The look of complete and utter shock was mixed in with confusion. What did she mean?
"You don't tell me things so I don't worry, so you have to wait until tomorrow." In clear Sage fashion, he and his wolf huffed in damnation which she just matched it right back.
After being up to Kenzie's standard of health, the two were allowed to be released from the infirmary. Prompting one of the nurses to drive them to their house.
They thanked the young volunteer as Sage took most of the Alpha's weight in her hold and lead him through the house. While she might've had enough energy to bring him upstairs, Remus couldn't manage any more than the living room couch.
She was very attentive and settled him with enough pillows and blankets that Remus was sure he was going to suffocate. "Are you hungry?" Was all she said in the midst of trying to get him comfortable, and truthfully...He salivated at the idea of anything.
"Leftover burgers, I make you some." She was true to her word, she did indeed make him a hefty plate of whatever they had for dinner that night and he scarfed it down.
In record of this, it made Remus unaware of his mate rising up from the spot beside him—who was trying to help a pretty reckless put the rest of the way down the stairs.
"Ronan you can't go downstairs yourself, no. Not even in fur." She scolded, and that caught his attention instantly. Especially when either father and son looked to one another.
The pup was rocking a pajama onesie over his fur, but that isn't what caused Remus to frown. It was the fact that his pup looked bigger from what he could remember.
Although he should've expected that, as he caught the twins standing in the crib—So he assumed that they had a better handle on their limbs than before. But seeing the daring pup trying to get closer to him, caused Remus to take one more bite and open his arms to take the pup.
"Pups miss you, I try and take them with me to infirmary to visit but they don't know why you're sleeping...They watch me and papa train too." She said, filling in the details of the pups and while Remus appreciated it, he wanted to know what else was happening.
However he remained quiet, Sage was burnt out and either would feel the stress for the coming days. Especially when a small smile erupted on her face.
"Julia's getting her heat...We don't have Eli for a few days."
"Guess the Goddess waited for me to wake up before blessing them, huh?" Sage perked her lips, it sounded like a correct theory, so she curled up beside either of her males and accepted it.
But Darius was quick to fill her mind.
The Goddess sensed a war, she isn't ruthless enough to not give everyone heirs...Remember that, wolfie. Remember that.

Alrighty, I'll see you all on Monday (Hopefully). I have a filled weekend, and I'm hoping that it doesn't carry into Monday. If so, I'll post as soon as I'm able.
