Seonghwa
As I climb the cushiony stairs to the top, I couldn't help but notice something weird. The guards whom were usually situated at the gateway were not present. There's nothing inhibiting souls or anything that can fly high enough from casually strolling in. Or in my case, a past offender.
Upon my entrance to the town, I find another thing off. Other than the guard towers being empty, the streets are vacant of any residents whatsoever. Seemingly a ghost town. There isn't a single soul or feather in sight. Stepping on clouds is soft, and we usually don't hear footsteps when we walk along the paths, but the place is so void of noise that I can hear the tread of my boots sinking into the soft cotton structure. As I'm passing a row of houses, I couldn't help but wonder what had happened.
"Hello? Anyone around?" My voice echoes through the whole town, no other sound available to drown it out.
Suddenly, the door I had just passed opens, and a hand reaches out. Before I can scream for help or protest, I'm already in the house and the door is shut.
"Are you out of your mind?! Only an idiot would go outside at a time like this! Haven't you heard what the leaders said?"
"No, I didn't actually." I duck out of the other's grip, stubbornly crossing my arms and leaning against the wall. "Haven't been up here in a long time."
The other takes a closer glance at me, and I fidget under his scrutiny. "Ohhh, Seonghwa. You jerk. Should've just let you be eaten, traitor."
"Woah there, Mr. Insults. I've changed since I went down to earth. Literally." I glare at him, making him back away with his hands raised.
"Well, I can't vouch for you, and I also don't want to be the one caught housing wanted people in their home. Maybe you should go."
"Whatever..." I call out as I leave the cottage. But as it turns out, he isn't the only fraidy-cat. The next couple residents who pulled me inside all shooed me out when they realised who I was.
"I don't need them anyway. I came get answers and I WILL get my answers." I tell myself decidedly.
That is, until something rounds the corner in front of me.
