It's been 4 weeks since Zelia treated the wounds in Minho's forehead. They have a new person that sent to them the Creators, Aidan. She didn't know why she hoped that a woman would come to them one day. The girl just thinks that maybe the creators made a mistake in sending her here.
During the more than two months that Zelia has been here, nothing has changed between them and Minho. Even though she wanted to talk to the man and vent her anger on him, she knew that the Keeper would roll his eyes at her and walk away.
Zelia is in a Med-hut right now to read a book. She wants to help with other work, but they say they can do it by themselves, and besides, there are no Med-jacks available if ever they will let the girl help. She didn't do anything and didn't argue anymore.
I don't know if it's just me or if it feels like it has other meaning in what they say, or maybe I'm just overthinking. I really want to help them while waiting for a patient.
Suddenly, Zelia looked up at the door when she heard a knock. She let in who was the person who was outside.
"Hey, Zelia, I hope I'm not in the wrong timing to go here. I don't have anything to do right now since it's my day off," Kendrix said. The girl set aside the book she's reading, and she let the latter sit in front of her.
"No, I don't have any patients right now; that's why it's fine with me. Why? Is there something wrong?" The young man took a deep breath before sitting down.
"I'm just confused right now. I don't know if what I'm feeling is really right; it's so wrong if I think about it." Zelia looked at him with confusion because she didn't understand what he's saying.
"How can I understand your problem if you don't want to be straight to the point?" Kendrix stared at his friend for a long time before taking another deep breath.
"I think I'm in love, or if it can really be called love." Hearing this, Zelia slowly smiled. The girl was about to speak when she noticed that the young man's face was tinged with sadness so that the smile on her lips disappeared.
"Are you thinking about our situation right now? That's why your face is like that?" Zelia asks, and Kendrix looks away, feeling guilty because it's true to what she said.
"Well, if you really think about it, how can I fall in love if I can't remember anything from my past?" She let out a sigh before she took the latter hand.
"You know, I've been here for almost 2 months. I realized that who cares about our past? As long as we're alive, happy, and have hope and faith in each other, why not?" Kendrix looked at Zelia and laughed softly.
"I don't know, Zel. I really don't know what the meaning of love is, what it feels like, and then suddenly I will think that I love someone. It's like I'm just fooling myself." She squeezed his hand, and she gave him a genuine smile.
"Like I said, who cares about our past? Who cares if we can't remember anything? We can make new memories though. You are here for almost 6 months; don't tell me you never think that you didn't feel any happiness? Especially on your special someone?" Because of what Zelia said, Kendrix thought. After he didn't speak for a few minutes, the girl spoke again.
"Drix, if you keep thinking about the past, you will just end up hurting yourself. The important thing now is that we are alive and happy. So I don't see anything wrong with your feelings." He slowly smiled and nodded his head. Zelia is right; he doesn't hurt people, so there is nothing wrong with Kendrix's feelings.
"Okay, noted on that, but first, I really think about these feelings. I want to make sure if I really like him or not." Zelia smiled when she heard what he said before she gave him a tight hug.
"Now, tell me, who's this person you really like on the Glade?" She asked when she pulled away from the hug to look at him. Kendrix rolled his eyes when he heard her question.
"Nothing, it's a secret for now."
"I thought I'm your close friend? Why don't you tell me who it is?"
"I don't want to; if I tell you, for sure you would tease me every day."
"You don't have any trust in your friend? I won't tell everyone about this though," Zelia said with sadness in her voice as she looked at the man. The latter rolled his eyes again.
"It's Frypan that I like or love or whatever these feelings are. Are you happy?" Because of what she heard, the girl's smile suddenly widened, so Kendrix was able to look away as his cheeks gradually reddened.
"That's why sometimes I catch you looking at him. Now it makes sense." Her friend's cheeks reddened even more, so the girl laughed.
"You can shut up; I don't need you teasing me anymore."
"Yeah, right, if you say so," Zelia said with a silly smile that made Kendrix just shake his head as he secretly smiled.
-----
"Oh, shucks. It turns out that the sky is dark. I'm sorry if I just waste your day because of me. Good thing I have a day off today; Gally will probably scold me if ever," Kendrix said as he looked out the window. Zelia laughed softly at what he said before agreeing.
"Right, let's go to the kitchen, maybe because you missed him so much," she teasingly said, and Kendrix glared at her. That's why Zelia laughed even more. They both stood up on their seats, and they were about to leave when they suddenly heard a knock and entered the hut.
"Thank goodness you're here; I don't need to look for Med-jacks anymore," Ben said while catching his breath.
"What happened to you, Ben? Why are you so out of breath?" The girl asked suddenly, then she looked around to find out what the problem was. She frowned when she saw a man being supported by the newcomer. Even though she couldn't see his face, she already has a guess as to who the man is.
"Sorry if your patient is late again. I told him not to go on the Maze today, but he's really born to be stubborn," he said while holding his hand on his companion's arm. She heard the latter scoffed at what Ben said.
They were about to enter when Ben noticed that the girl was with someone.
"Hi, Kendrix. I'm sorry if I didn't notice you immediately."
"No worries, Ben. I'm leaving in the hut anyway," the man said as he smiled and looked at the girl. "I'll go first; you have something to do; I don't want to be a burden here."
Zelia gave Kendrix a nod and a smile and waited for the man to leave before confronting Ben. He told the newcomer to sit the latter on the bed.
"What happened this time?" she asked when he saw who the man was. Minho.
"This man has a fever. I was surprised that he still hadn't come out of his room, so I went, and that's it. I saw him still lying down. He's really so unusual like that because he's always early leaving his room when it's time for work, so I immediately touched his forehead and got burnt." Minho rolled his eyes, and Zelia secretly shook her head. He slowly lay down and closed his eyes, letting his companion explain everything.
"I quickly went out to look for Alby, and he was with Jeff, so I told them what happened. When we got back to Minho's room, he suddenly disappeared." Ben continued with his story. The girl took the things she was going to use.
"I didn't expect to find him right away because the Maze was too big. I saw him around noon, leaning against the wall while still trying to do the job," Ben added while shaking his head.
"Let me guess, since your Keeper is so super stubborn, you pulled him out of the Maze. He didn't mind if he trapped in the Maze as long as he's still doing his job, forcing himself to run inside." Because of what the girl said, he heard the man laugh while the other just forced himself to sleep.
"I thought the closing of the Maze would catch up with us; luckily our colleagues saw us right away this afternoon. There were still 30 minutes before closing. That's why we only got here now because Alby talked to him first. It's a good thing he wasn't so hot earlier, so he talked to him sensibly." Ben took a deep breath as he looked at Minho.
"Correction, I am always hot." They both glanced at Minho when they heard him speak, who's eyes are closed.
"Hot-headed." Even Zelia was surprised by what she said; she didn't expect her voice to be louder when she said that.
"Such a slinthead." When she heard what he said, she raised her eyebrow, glaring at him, but Minho didn't mind, still closing his eyes.
"It's okay, you just have a high fever, Mr. Runner, but your stupidity is not contagious though. You know, you can always trust your doctor here." Minho shoots a glance at Zelia, who's now smiling at him. He was about to speak when Ben cleared his throat.
"Just say it if you don't need me guys so I can go now. Maybe I'm interrupting on something if I stay here." Minho looked into Ben's eyes, hoping the latter could tell what he wants to say out loud for him. Zelia noticed the look of his patient and looked at Ben with a smile.
"You can go ahead; I'll take care of Minho here. Maybe you're hungry, that's why," Zelia said while smiling, and the man immediately thanked her before leaving. Minho let out a sigh and closed his eyes.
The girl looked at the now-silent man who's lying on the bed. I don't even know why I even answered him. I can just let him talk. I guess he's really getting on my nerves at this point.
She just took a deep breath and decided to finish quickly because Zelia knew that Minho didn't want to be with her inside the hut.
"I'll touch you even if you don't want it," Zelia said and sat next to the young man. I don't even know why I need permission from him; I'm the doctor.
She started to wet the towel and slowly wiped Minho's forehead. She felt how hot he is.
"You have a high fever, but you still manage to be rude. Don't be too obvious that you don't like me," Zelia said as she wiped the man's face. She noticed that the young man was lying quietly; maybe he probably fell asleep quickly because of his fever.
The girl didn't realize that she was looking at Minho's face for a long time, and she slowly ran a finger over his face as if knowing every shape of the man's face. She wouldn't deny to herself that this guy has attractive features. Long eyelashes, sharp nose, red lips, and tan skin.
"You're such a good-looking guy, but if it's possible, even my breathing, you'll get mad at me. That's how you hate my presence," Zelia said and took a deep breath. She just finished wiping the young man before putting the things away. The girl stood up and looked at Minho first and spoke.
"I'll leave you here since my work is done. I'll just call Jeff so he can watch over you." I don't even know why I spoke even though I knew he was already asleep.
Zelia finally left the hut to eat dinner. She first looked for Jeff to tell him what happened and went to where the kitchen was.
All this time, the girl thought the man was sleeping. Minho just held his face and slowly opened his eyes. He looked at the door where Zelia came out and didn't realize that he was smiling.
Am I really that obvious?
