In the common area.

Chase has just dismissed his class when Mr Davenport enters the room.

"Hey Chase, I want to talk to you about this weekend's event" Mr Davenport says "relax Mr Davenport I've got it all planned" Chase says.

"you better have cause the event owner is Michael Garrett, he announced that they will be making cuts to the guest list for the next few years, only members will participate in the so this is our chance!Not just our chance but our last" Mr Davenport says.

"Mr Davenport I have a speech planned for Mr Garrett...""Chase I know you're going to want to embody the businessman in front of Garrett but more important thing is you need to try to win him over like a friend that old billionaire never had!" Mr Davenport says.

"A friend? Got it" Chase says "this year he and his wife opened the party for some family members, if you get close to them and gain their trust it's a big help!" Mr Davenport says

"okay Mr Davenport I already know exactly what to do" Chase says "Chase, Don't miss it, I've wanted a partnership with his company for a long time" Mr Davenport says.

"I know, I promise I won't disappoint this time" Chase says.

Chase leaves the common area, he goes to the mentors' room, there he finds Harper and Adam.

Adam is on the couch watching tv, and Harper is reading a book, she uses molecular kinesis to hold the book in the air as she apparently fries an egg on the mini stove on the counter.

"Harper, I need to talk to you!" Chase
says.

"Oh Chase! Check it out I'm reading about quantum physics while I make breakfast!" Harper says excitedly as she creates a force field around the frying pan to protect it from the splattering oil.

"I'm watching tv!" Adam says equally excited "really impressive Adam" Chase says sarcastically walking past him.

"wait are you using two bionic abilities simultaneously?" Chase ask.

"It's actually three, molecular kinesis to read the book, I overdid the oil in the Frying Pan so the force field came in handy, and I'm using energy manipulation to bake toast in that toaster that isn't even plugged in" Harper says nodding at the toaster.

"wow!" Chase says "I know! I'm bionic multitasking!" Harper smiles excitedly.

"Oh I can do that too, I just can't guarantee the eggs will be good but I can!" Adam says.

"It must be one of those upgrades to your chip that Douglas talked about, You have the capacity to use multiple abilities simultaneously something we can't do without overloading our chips" Chase says.

"Yeah, while I was doing all that I checked my chip info and it says a new unlocked ability so I decided to give it a try" Harper says.

"Harp that's amazing but what about your chip glitches,all this can induce a glitch, I think you should take it easy" Chase says.

"I know, but first I haven't glitched in almost a week, and second the only way to know if my bionics are stable it's based on testing, like this one I'm pushing the limits and so far it's going well" Harper says, the toast is ready.

"Uuh breakfast!!" Adam jumps off the couch and goes over to the table "A week without any glitches?" Chase says.

"Exactly!" Harper puts the book on the table "Well that's great, I'm proud
of you" Chase smiles.

"thanks! so what did you want to talk about?" Harper hands Adam a plate of toast and a fried egg.

"Oh yeah! well...There's this potential partner for Davenport Industries his name is Michael Garret.." Chase says.

"I've heard of him he also owns a technology company specializing in
security software" Harper say.

"yes! every year Mr Garret throws a party for some of his friends and businessmen, and every year Mr Davenport sends me as a representative to try to gain Mr Garret's trust and partnership to further leverage Davenport Industries' projects" Chase says.

"Yeah, okay I don't mean to be rude but where do I fit in in this conversation? I get the feeling you're not telling me this just for the sake of it" Harper says, Chase smiles and shakes his head.

"Every year I get upstaged..""You don't even have to say this Chase, you being
upstaged is nothing new" Adam says "Eat your toast!" Chase says irritably.

"Anyway, I always get overshadowed by guys like Gary who got engaged, or Susan who had a baby, or some guy in accounting who claims to be dating Angelina Jolie....however these people always end up getting Mr Garrett's full attention throughout the night,And eventually he partners with them" Chase says.

"of course everyone has a more interesting life than yours....Tell me more about Susan, is her baby a boy or a girl?" Adam says, Harper frowns.

"What are you getting at Chase?" Harper ask "This year I finally have something interesting to get his attention... you!!" Chase smiles putting his hands on Harper's face, she gives a light laugh.

"you want me to go to this event so you can get his attention?" Harper says "I want you to go because I want your company but yeah!" Chase smiles.

"Really? You're a Bionic human and the smartest guy in the world! Isn't that interesting enough for this guy?" Harper ask "It doesn't matter, Chase is still Chase!" Adam says, the two look at him.

"it would be nice to finally be able to introduce my girlfriend, and I'm sure you would make a great impression!" Chase says, Harper laughs "I'm not so sure" Harper says.

"But look,I meant it when I said I want you to come with me" Chase says with a sincere smile, Harper sighs.

"This is really important to you isn't it?" Harper says "Very important!" Chase says, Harper thinks.

"okay! I'll go with you, Let's get this partnership!" Harper says "yeah!" Chase smiles and hugs her kissing her cheek

"Let's make a good impression!" Chase says "okay, this year Chase Davenport will be accompanied by his lovely girlfriend!" Harper says Chase smiles at her.

"Ha cool and who is she?" Adam ask
laughing, Harper glares at him "Adam eat your toast!" Harper says irritably.

On the day of the event Chase is in the common area waiting for Harper, she walks in.

"okay! Question! How do i look?" Harper asks she's wearing a navy blue dress.

"navy blue!? You're not wearing that color by any chance, are you?" Chase asks he's wearing a suit in the same color.

"I ask you the same!" Harper says "Of course, It's his favorite color, it even matches the company logo!" Chase says.

"I know! I researched the stylist and his designer before choosing what I was going to wear" Harper says "you look amazing, I'm happy to see that you're making an effort in this" Chase says approaching her.

"well, you know me I don't do things badly, until the end of the night I guarantee you a partnership and even a cruise trip to the Maldives!" Harper smiles, Chase frowns.

"yup a little bird told me he has this trip booked and has two tickets left!" Harper winks "did you hack his schedule?" Chase ask.

"Well, I wanted to know what he likes, the trip to the Maldives is the only cool thing there, the rest is just playing bingo and other old man stuff!" Harper says.

"You don't have to worry about that, I'll guide the conversation I've been practicing a subtle way of approaching my ideas for his company's current project, I just need you to support my ideas, make them look good, show your knowledge and how we work together"
Chase says.

"I get it, You want me to be the person who will make him sympathize with the idea, for that I also trained in a subtle way to win him over with charm and charisma" Harper says.

"charisma? You?" Chase says "Yes, me! It's just a silly trick that makes people think "oh what a lovely girl I'm going to hire her!" That's how I got my first job" Harper says.

"What? There's no way a dumb trick can make you get things that easy" Chase says.

Harper starts laughing, a fake laugh she puts her hand on his arm "oh Chase you are amuzing!" She says this with her light and delicate laugh, slowly tucking her hair behind her ear.

"wow! okay! now I understand the power of this thing!" Chase says impressed "it's foolproof, I got Krane out of prison like that once" Harper says "let's leave it as a secret weapon!" Chase says.

"Yeah, but tell me what exactly is this party like? It's one of those fancy parties with a bunch of old people, where there's always a waiter asking if they want more champagne in a lazy French accent!?" Harper ask

"in an oddly detailed way that yes, it's that kind of party" Chase says "great as I imagined, my role tonight is going to be about smiling and waving politely" Harper says smiling and gently waving.

"I know it's not fun but..." Chase says, he sighs "Relax Chase" Harper says "Fine!" Chase smiles, he looks at his watch.

"come on, we're late!" Chase takes her hand and leads her to the Hydraloop.

They go to a building where Mr Garret's party is held, Chase and Harper step off the elevator, Harper is hooked onto Chase's arm, she looks around.

"wow what an amazing place!" Harper says "I know, he has good decorating taste" Chase says "Mr Davenport could take some tips" Harper says.

"I don't think Mr Garrett is here yet" Chase says "He should be here soon" Harper says.

A waiter offers them champagne "uuh!" Harper raises her hand towards the tray, Chase smacks her hand "no thanks!" Chase tells the waiter glaring at Harper in an irritated way.

"Sorry but the term party doesn't really apply here" Harper says "yeah I know" Chase says he spots one of Mr Garret's managers and takes Harper over to him.

"okay remember everything we talked about" Chase says "yeah! Smile and nod politely!" Harper smiles and hugs Chase's arm.

"Hi Chase Davanport right?" Guy says greeting Chase "yeah Gary Banks right congratulations on your wedding" Chase says "oh that's the.." Harper says Chase nods yes before she concludes.

"Thank you, we are very happy, and I heard that you are doing well with the academy" Gary says "Yes, we have made a lot of progress in one year and expectations for the future are very
good!" Chase says.

Harper smiles at him while stroking his arm "that's great!, and who is this
lovely lady?" Gary asks and shakes Harper "Oh yeah that's Harper my girlfriend" Chase says.

"nice to meet you" Harper says "as well! I didn't know you had a girlfriend congrats!" Gary says, Harper and Chase smile at each other.

"thanks, Chase told me about Garret company's recent projects, so i researched more about It and I was really interested in getting to know the contributors to this successful industry, you guys have been doing amazin work!" Harper says.

"Are you interested in configurations and security software development?" Gary asks "Obviously! only a fool wouldn't, right?" Harper laughs politely, Chase laughs with her, Gary smiles.

"You chose the girl well, Chase!" Gary pats Chase on the back "thank you so much Mr Banks!" Chase says "excuse me, I need to go over there, I'll talk to you guys later" Gary leaves.

Chase and Harper look at each other and smile excitedly "you were amazing!" Chasesays excitedly "I told you so! I can handle business!" Harper says.

"Yes!! This partnership is already ours!!" Chase says excitedly "yey!" Harper smiles touching her nose to Chase's nose.

"Mr Garrett should be here any minute" Chase says.

"Okay but first and most important...where is the bathroom!?" Harper says "that way, the first door on the left" Chase says "I'll be right back" Harper says.

Harper goes to the bathroom, halfway through she feels some sparks
coming out of her neck, she puts her hand on her neck and gives a light tap on the back of her head.

In the bathroom at the moment when she was going to wash her hand she faces herself in the mirror.

She feels a slight pain in her neck and sparks come out again, she puts her hand on her neck.

Suddenly and looks in the mirror, and she doesn't see her own reflection, suddenly her reflection comes back, and disappears again, she gets scared.

"No No No!" Harper says, she can't see her own hands, she's invisible.

"no!! There goes my glitch free weeks!!" Harper says in frustration putting her hand to her head, she hits the sink.

The bathroom door opens, it looks like it opened by itself but it's just Harper invisible.

She walks across the room accidentally bumps into some people, they are confused as they don't see what bumped into them.

Chase takes two glasses of water from a tray, Harper approaches but doesn't know how to approach him, she puts a hand on his shoulder he turns around confused.

"Chase!" Harper carefully says "Harper!?" Chase asks looking around.

"I'm in front of you! I'm invisible!!" Harper says holding his shoulder so he can feel.

"What!? What did you do?" Chase says surprised "I did nothing, literally nothing!" Harper says "no! that can't happen! Not now!" Chase says .

i know, What I do!?" Harper asks "What do you mean? I didn't even know you had an invisibility app!" Chase says "Well, neither did I!" Harper says.

"Turn that off!" Chase says a little desperate, a group of people look at him confused, it looks like he's talking to himself, he gives a dull laugh.

"let's go somewhere else!" Chase says "I can't walk among people,they don't see me and they bump into me" Harper says.

"Fine, I'll guide you!" Chase says and tries to grab her arms, he grabs something, but she is invisible so he doesn't see what.

"uh Chase....if you think that's my arm, I'll let you know my arm is a little bit to the left of that" Harper says a little bothered.

Chase makes an embarrassed face "um...i..yeah I realized that's not your arm" Chase says and clears his throat nervously "Why don't you let go then!!" Harper says irritably, Chase takes his hand away.

"Sorry!" Chase says "let ME hold your hand!" Harper says, Chase clears his
throat again "that's a good idea!" Chase says his voice breaks

He takes her somewhere else, she keeps close to him so no one bumps into her unknowingly

They go to the kitchen.

"Okay so you can't turn it off!?" Chase ask "If I could I would have done it already!" Harper says "so it's a glitch!" Chase puts his hand to his head freaking out.

"Chase what are we going to do?" Harper ask "I don't know!!" Chase says "okay we have to calm down and think!" Harper says.

They suddenly hear the elevator and some people saying "Mr Garrett is a pleasure to see you" Chase widens his eyes.

"oh no Mr Garret is already here! I can't go there alone and I can't introduce my invisible girlfriend either!!" Chase freaks out "Chase stay calm!" Harper says.

"Don't tell me to stay calm when I barely know where to look when you talk to me!" Chase says.

"Okay, I think I better go home, to fix this glitch and let you deal with these people" Harper says "No, I'm not letting you go home alone like that!" Chase says.

"I can't stay here like this, what if it gets worse!" Harper says "okay then I guess we better go back to the island and work this out" Chase says a little upset.

"No, it's not fair for you to miss this opportunity because of me!" Harper says "It's not fair i leave you like this because of a business partnership too" Chase says.

Gary opens the door "Chase!? What are you doing here? Mr Garret is here I'm sure he'll be flattered to see you and meet your girl, come on!" Gary says.

"Uh I just a sec I'm..I'm waiting for my girl to show up....literally" Chase says lowered "what?" Gary ask "Wait a sec!" Chase says laughing nervously.

Gary frowns and closes the door.

"Okay, what happened exactly, explain to me?" Chase ask "no big deal, I just went to the bathroom halfway through my chip started to spark like it normally does, I felt a slight pain in my neck and Boom! Invisible!" Harper says.

"Your chip is adapting to your system and unlocking new abilities, you just unlocked the invisibility app" Chase says "oh really! I hadn't noticed! wow that's good news, Chase I'm, so happy! Yey I have an invisibility app!" Harper says pretending to be happy sarcastically, Chase rolls his eyes.

"this could be some kind of bad contact on your chip, that's why you can't turn it off" Chase says "makes sense, I used my bionic abilities a lot this week, I must have adapted to them inducing an upgrade that unlocks a new ability" Harper says.

"exactly, you'll probably go back to normal eventually once you adjust to this new ability or your chip adapts to your body completely" Chase says "Oh great so let's just sit back and wait as this can take anywhere from two seconds to a year to happen!" Harper says sarcastically pulling out a chairm

Chase just watches the chair seem to move itself.

"if it's just a bad contact it's easy to fix I just need a chip extractor to adjust its connections" Chase says "that's all, too bad I left the chip extractor in the other bag! Along with the hammer and screwdriver!" Harper says sarcastically

"you can't not be sarcastic can you?" Chase says "nope, it's my best non-bionic ability, and also the only one that never glitches!" Harper says.

"Can you geoleap to the island and get a chip extractor?" Chase ask.

Harper is no longer sitting in the chair, she is standing next to a cart with a tray of sweets, stealing some, Chase turns and walks over to the cart pulling it along

"Harper, can you stop stealing food! And go get the chip extractor!" Chase says firmly looking in her direction "wait! How did you know I was here?" Harper asks "I can see you with my bionic vision!" Chase says, it takes him a second to realize.

"What? So you were seeing me this whole time!!" Harper asks slightly irritated "uh...just your heat signature" Chase says nervously.

"so that innocent accident wasn't so innocent was it?" Harper says she crosses her arms, Chase clears his throat.

"I don't know what you're talking about, go get the extractor and I'll go there because...um they called me!" Chase says heading towards the door, Harper rolls her eyes.

Chase is in the corner of the hall watching Mr Garret receive some guests, Harper approaches him.

"so got it?" Chase ask "no I can't geoleap! Nor use any other abilities This is a complete system glitch" Harper says.

"what are we going to do!? The only way to fix it is to remove the chip!" Chase says "Not necessarily, I had an idea, if we use an electromagnetic pulse we can fix the bad contact on the chip" Harper says.

"it makes sense, maybe I can use my magnetism app to readjust the chip without removing it" Chase says "yes!" Harper says "Okay let's do this!" Chase says.

He lifts his hand close to her neck but without touching and uses his magnetism app to slightly move the chip, as he does this Harper looks at herself in a small mirror on the wall.

She watches her reflection fade in and out "this is as far as it gets" Chase says, Harper watches her reflection in the mirror "it worked!" Harper says excitedly looking at her hands.

Chase pulls back a little smiling, but his smile disappears when he looks below her waist, Harper is excited and turns to him.

"it worked!...what is wrong?" Harper asks "Uh....Harper!" Chase points at her legs, Harper looks down and just can't see her own legs.

"Aaahh!" Harper squeals and looks at Chase in fright, Harper is invisible from the waist down and visible from the waist up.

Harper takes a deep breath and closes her eyes "Am I crazy? Or I don't have legs" Harper says hesitantly "well you don't have visible legs!" Chase says scared.

"uhg I'd rather be crazy!!" Harper says, Chase sighs "There's no way, we have to remove your chip to fix this!" Chase says

"Okay, can we continue with this electromagnetic pulse thing to make a...""Hey Davenport!" Gary walks over.

"Heeeyyy!" Chase says putting himself in front of Harper hiding her "Hey Gary!" Harper says hugging Chase's neck from behind, resting her chin on his shoulder and smiling nervously.

She makes sure her invisible legs are hidden behind him "uh are we interrupting something?" Gary
asks, he holds a woman's hand.

"oh no!we were....we were just talking!" Chase laughs nervously "yeah yeah!" Harper smiles, Gary watches them both smile nervously and the way Harper cuddles up to Chase.

"Oh, you know,I just, I can't stay away from him!!" Harper says lightly laughing, Chase takes her hands to his chest and nods with a smile.

"oh we get it, you guys are young in love, it's beautiful!" the woman says "Yup!" Chase says.

"oh so this is my wife Mary!" Gary says "I'm Chase Davenport and this is Harper" Chase says "nice to meet you" Mary says she shakes Chase's hand.

She was going to do the same to Harper, Mary walks over and Harper pulls Chase along with her, and reaches out to Mary still keeping behind Chase, Mary frowns.

"It's our pleasure to meet you!" Chase says "I've heard a lot about you and your bionic academy is very impressive!" Mary says "Thanks!" Chase says.

"Are you bionic too?" Mary ask Harper "Oh you have no idea!" Harper smiles, Mary smiles and takes Gary's arm.

"come on honey, let this beautiful young couple enjoy the party, it was great meeting you" Mary says "likewise" Chase and Harper say, Gary greets them and leaves.

Harper sighs resting her head on Chase's back who also sighs in relief, he looks around.

"That was close" Chase says.

"Chase! We need to make a homemade chip extractor, the chip extractor also works with an electromagnetic impulse, which keeps the chip on,based on that I think there's a way to make one out of something they have here" Harper says.

"that's a great idea! So I can extract the chip and fix the connection that is failing, I already know how to make the extractor!" Chase says "Perfect!" Harper says.

"Okay, but how are you going to get through people looking like the genie in the lamp!?" Chase says, Harper faces a table full of decorations and appetizers, she thinks.

"I know how! Give me your belt!" Harper says "What?" Chase says "Just give me the belt!" Harper says bossing, Chase looks around rolls his eyes and starts to take off his belt.

Harper goes to the table, the table has a navy blue tablecloth, she holds the ends of the tablecloth tightly, she takes a deep breath, she pulls the tablecloth away in one go, without knocking over any arrangements or appetizer trays.

Chase looks at her in awe."Yeah, I didn't think that would work either!" Harper smiles, Chase smiles and hands her his belt, Harper wraps the tablecloth around her waist.

The tablecloth is big enough to cover her entire legs, she uses Chase's belt to hold the tablecloth around her waist in a neat way, so the tablecloth seemed to be part of her dress.

"See? wearing the party owner's favorite color came in handy more than we thought" Chase smiles "It looks good!?" Harper says "yeah, you don't look like a ghost anymore!" Chase says.

"Let's go find the materials for the chip extractor" Harper says "calm down! Let me go and you worry about looking normal to other people,find a quiet place to stay and we'll meet in Later" Chase says.

"Want me to hide?" Harper says "As long as you don't have legs and you wear my favorite belt yeah!" Chase says.

Harper rolls her eyes and leaves and Chase goes after the materials.

(This chapter ended up being longer than planned so I had to split it into two parts,I tried to remove some part but I just couldn't because I love how this chapter shows Chase and Harper's dynamics as a couple, I hope you like it 🥰)
