Mending
"How the frickle frackle am I supposed to find my way back to Mighty Med when I'm stuck in this...junkyard!?"
I am standing outside of my father's place, trying to find my way back to Mighty Med. The only problem is that I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere. And by nowhere, I mean my very confusing evil/good father's backyard. "Hey," my father says, sounding insulted. "It's not a junkyard! It's a...charming, cozy, rustic, little dark place that I like to call home." I roll my eyes. "Hey, do you want any help or not," Ash asks, frustrated. "Not from you, I don't, you backstabbing, cold-blooded murderer," I spat. "Honestly," Ash yells. "I don't know what you're talking about!" "Fine," I yell back, because I somewhat believe him. "If you really wanna help, then help me get outta this stupid place! It's your lair! You can't possibly not know how to get out of your own lair!" Ash throws his hands up in the air, "Well, don't blame me! I never leave this place! The darkness is my home."
I glare at him, "Try to find a way out." "Yeesh," he says. "All right, all right, I'm tryin'!" After hours of wandering around, it's me who actually finds a way out. Well, I don't actually 'find a way.' It's more like 'scream and punch my way through the walls using my bionics.' Ash was stunned when he found out that I had bionics, and I briefly explained to him how I got them. I also explained what he tried to do to me and my new family, and what he did to our family, and he honestly, really, truly doesn't remember anything. I wonder why. We finally find our way back to Mighty Med hospital. I throw open the doors without thought. "Did you find Chase," I shout. Everyone freezes and looks at me. Then they look at Ash. Adam, Bree, Leo, Uncle Donny, Daddy Douglas, and Auntie Tasha, all get into a fighting stance. "Get away from him, Lyrica," Daddy says, glaring at Ash. Skylar, Oliver, Kaz, Horace, and the superheroes start to follow my family's lead. "No, no, no," I say, quickly. "Ash isn't here to hurt us. He's here to...help us." Everyone's faces are now full of disbelief. "WHAT," my family shouts in unison. Leo chuckles and walks over to me.
"Lyrica," he says, smiling through clenched teeth. "No offense, because you're great, you know? You're like a sister to me and all that but...ARE YOU NUTS!?" I was smiling until Leo screamed. Now my eyes are squeezed shut and I'm clenching my fists. I slap him in the face. "No, I'm not nuts," I shout. Leo opens his mouth to speak after he finishes rubbing his cheek. He holds up his hand, as if he is about to declare something, but I cover his mouth with my hand. "Say anything else, and your 'nuts' will be throbbing," I threaten. It is silent until Adam yells obnoxiously, in a fake English accent, "And the queen has spoken!" I uncover Leo's mouth. "We're wasting time," I say. "We have to find Chase!" I look at Uncle Donny, "Any sign of him yet?" Uncle Donny just frowns. My heart sinks. "We can't find him anywhere," Bree says, on the verge of tears. "Well, that's what Ash is here for," I say, gesturing toward my birth father. "He claims that he can help us find Chase if we give him a chance." Ash smiles sheepishly. "Oh no," Daddy Douglas says, walking up to Ash. "No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I don't trust him." He turns to face me, "Besides...I'm your father now." I can sense the panic and jealousy in Douglas's voice. He thinks that he is being replaced. I put my hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry, Daddy," I say, putting my hand on his shoulder. "Ash is just here to help. I promise." Daddy hesitates. Then I do the one thing that no father can resist. I give him sad puppy dog eyes. "Please, Daddy," I beg. He looks at me and cringes. This goes on for a few seconds. Finally, Daddy says, "Fine!" "Oh, thank you, Daddy," I cry, hugging him tightly. "All right, all right," he says, hugging me back.
When I finally let go of him, Uncle Donny gasps. "What," I ask, worried. "That's it," he says. "I can update Chase's software remotely and embed a cyber message into it telling him to come home, just like I did when Douglas captured Adam, Bree, and Chase," Uncle Donny replies. My spirits rise. "Yes," I exclaim. "Yes! That's brilliant!" But then my spirits fall again. "Wait," I say. "Chase left because he thinks that he is dangerous to us. Even if we send him a message, he's most likely not going to come back." Uncle Donny frowns. My spirits rise again, "BUT, if he sees how desperate we are for him to come back, how much we need him, then maybe that will convince him to come home!" "Bingo," Bree exclaims. "Boo ya," Adam and Leo cheer in unison. Uncle Donny gives us commands. Bree super speeds back home to get a computer and super speeds back. Uncle Donny updates Chase's software and we all leave a message for him begging him to come home. Once we finish recording it, we send it to him. "There," Uncle Donny says, once we finish sending the message. "'It's done. The only thing that we can do now is hope that Chase gets the message and comes home." "I hope that he comes home," I say. "I really, really hope that he comes home." Oliver puts his arm around me and I snuggle into his chest, dreading the long wait ahead of us.
