Ill
The next day, I practically stay in bed the whole day. I sob into my pillow, cry for Chase even though he can't hear me, take nap after nap, rarely train for missions. Uncle Donny and Daddy Douglas haven't gotten a wink of sleep because they have been looking for Chase. As for Adam, Bree, and Leo, they're so depressed that they're almost like robots (no pun intended). All they do is eat, drink, sleep, and occasionally train for missions. As for Auntie Tasha, she is mourning Chase's disappearance as if he is her own son. She barely eats or drinks, she stays up late nervously and unessecerily cleaning the house, and when she finally goes to bed, she falls asleep weeping.
Throughout the night, I wake up screaming from nightmare after nightmare, and no one can comfort me except the the one person who isn't here anymore. I can't go to sleep without Chase. I just can't. So, while everyone sleeps, I decide to stay up. I do everything I can to take my mind off of Chase, but I fail miserably. I lie down on the couch, bury my face in my pillow, and cry myself to sleep. When I wake, I feel groggy and sick. I sit up and hold my stomach. I realize that I am the only one awake. I walk, or, more like drag myself, to the kitchen to fix myself a bowl of cereal. I open the cabinet and grab that that powdered, sugary donut cereal that Adam likes so much, hoping that the sugar will give me more energy and life.
I grab a bowl and start pouring the cereal into it, but I stop when I get a bittersweet memory. Awhile back, when Chase and I had first become a couple, I woke up really tired and could barely fix myself a bowl of cereal. Chase woke up and saw me falling asleep at the counter as I was trying to pour the cereal. He chuckled and walked up behind me. He gently held my wrists and guided my hands over the bowl, pouring the cereal for me as I rested my head back against his chest, snoring. Then he sat me down at the kitchen table, grabbed the carton of milk, and poured it in my cereal. He got a spoon, put it in my bowl, and carried me bridal style in his arms to the couch in the living room and layed me down, bringing the bowl with him afterwards.
He chuckled lightly and kissed me, long, soft, and loving, on the lips. I smiled in my sleep. When I awoke, I asked him what happened and how I got to the couch, and he explained everything as I ate my cereal. Then we cuddled and watched The Fault In Our Stars together, falling asleep halfway through the movie. Oh, how I miss him! Sometimes when I think of Chase it makes me happy, but when I realize that he left, I become sad. At this point, I don't even have the strength to fix myself a bowl of cereal. I'm starting to feel physically ill. I set down the box of cereal and walk at a turtle ' s pace to the living room.
I sit down on the couch and start eating my cereal, feeling empty, like a robot. After I finish my cereal, I get up to go put my bowl and spoon in the sink, but I stop when I feel dizzy. My stomach hurts and my head aches. I think about Chase being gone again and I end up vomiting all over the carpet. Auntie Tasha comes running into the living room just as I fall into dark, frightening sleep.
