Chaos In The Davenport House
"What were you thinking, Lyrica," Uncle Donny booms. "We're supposed to be heroes," I yell back, clutching Chase's hand. "I couldn't just let that poor man die!" "He isn't the only person who could have died," Uncle Donny yells. "You could have died, too!" "Isn't that what we're supposed to do," I ask. "Risk our lives to save others?" There is silence. I know that I'm right, even though what I did was pretty thoughtless. "I can't lose you, Lyrica," Chase says, breaking the silence.
Everyone looks at Chase, including me. Chase continues, "When you screamed and that rubble fell, I-I thought..." He doesn't finish his sentence. Instead, he licks his lips, purses them, and looks down to keep from crying. I know what he was going to say. He was going to say that he thought I died. There is eery silence, but Donny breaks it. "All right, let's all get to bed," he says. Bree and Adam go to their capsules and Leo goes to his room, while Chase joins me in my room. He wraps his arms around me and I rest my head on his chest. Soon, we fall fast asleep without a word.
...
Chase and I are the first ones up the next morning. We go to the kitchen to eat breakfast. I fix myself some pancakes and syrup, and he eats some fresh fruit. We set out some grapes in between us to share. He is the first one who tries to grab a grape. Suddenly, I get really angry and pick a fight. "Really," I ask, annoyed. "You get the first grape? Whatever happened to 'Ladies First?'" He looks stunned, "Well, excuse me if I want to eat." "Since when do you use sarcasm," I ask. "Since now," he replies. "Stop being such a jerk," I say, yelling now. "Stop being such a bigger jerk," he spits, also yelling. We each give a frustrated yell and storm off. I should be crying, but right now, I'm just angry.
A few minutes later, I hear someone knocking on my bedroom door. I hear Bree's voice, "Hello? May I come in?" I'm not really in the mood for visitors, but I let her in anyway. She sits next to me on my bed. "I heard everything," she says. "Are you okay?" "I think so," I say, holding back tears. "It's just that...this is the first time we've ever fought before." "I know," she says, wrapping her arms around me. "People who love each other fight. It's normal. You have absolutely nothing to worry about. Trust me on this one." I look at her and smile, "Okay. Thanks, Bree." I hug her tightly. She smiles at me, breaks away from the hug, and leaves the room. Little did I know that this wasn't the only fight that I was going to have with Chase. I've had several, and on top of that, I've been arguing with Bree, Adam, Leo, and even Uncle Donny, Auntie Tasha, and Daddy. I am so tired of all this chaos, and I get a bad feeling about where it is leading.
