Going Home
"That was fun," I say smiling, resting my head against the seat. The truth is, I've never had that much of a rush before. I'd always been isolated from the harsh world.
"Are you crazy, we could've gotten killed," Carl looked over at me. He was now sitting next to me, due to the fact that Glenn wanted kids in first. There was no passenger seat. It looked as if it had been torn out. I glared at him, but didn't say a word. At this moment I despised him.
This time, the ride wasn't silent. We discussed what items we had scavenged from the grocery store. A couple bottles of water, a bottle of aspirin from the pharmacy, mainly just the essentials. I pitched in that I had grabbed deodorant and womanly products. I didn't mention the items on the list though.
"Did I prove myself," I asked Rick. He looked at me through the mirror, yet didn't respond. "Did I prove myself," I repeated. It was one of the things I hated most, having to repeat myself.
"Look, Alison, it's going to take more than one run for you to earn our trust," he said without an expression. He seemed really focused on the road ahead of him. I scoffed, earning a look of disapproval, but I didn't care.
I turned my head toward the window.
Is it ever going to get any better? The trees seemed to be blurred. At the speed we were going, I was getting car sickness from looking out the window.
I turned my head back toward where the passenger seat should be. I folded up my arms and layer them on the car door next to me. I placed my head against my arms and closed my eyes. The sound of the vehicle running slowly faded away.
"Alison, it's time to go," Rick walked into my cell.
"Go where," I asked standing up.
"You're leaving, your no longer aloud here," he says brutally. The words hit me hard.
"I-I don't understand," I say. I feel the tears fill up my lower waterline.
"Just, leave," he says. He puts his head down, like he's ashamed that I ever even showed up. As I walked toward the main entrance, everybody stared at me, disgusted. What did I do? I opened the gates, to find a horde of biters growling at me. A felt a pair of hands push me into the flesh eating monsters. As the biters grabbed me, I turned around to see a pie of blue eyes staring at me.
"Carl," I asked. A biter bit into my shoulder. I yelped out in pain. He shut the gates, leaving me to die. I was all alone. Hot tears steamed down my face as more and more bites were taken out of my skin. I looked over to see that it was my family. The biters, all of them, were my family. Nana, Papaw, Aunt Jamie, Mom, Dad, Nick. All of them. I cried out in agony one more time before falling to the ground. The pain all went away. My eye lids became heavier. All at once my body became limp, and I was gone.
I was awaken to a jerk. The vehicle stopped and we were back at the prison again. I opened the door and hopped out of the truck. I pulled out the items I got from the store. Glenn happened to grab grocery bags. He handed one to me. I happily took it and stuffed my items in there. Surprisingly, nobody noticed the weight of my bag was unusually large. I made my way into the prison and back to my isolated cell.
"Home sweet home."
