This tale begins a long time back... even before any of us were born. The story takes place in Japan .During the Japanese Heian  Period ,there was a samurai who lived with his beautiful wife in a small village. She was the object of everyone's affection and she knew it. Everybody adored her and loved her so much.

     While walking in the village ,she would ask those who stared , " Am I pretty?" 

       This continued on ,but the samurai hated it. He didn't like his wife attracting so much attention. One peaceful day, after her returned from work ,he was stunned to see his wife with another man in the balcony.Infuriated,the samurai thought of a brilliant plan to exact revenge on his wife.

   One day ,while she was dressing up herself in front of her mirror, the sumarai slowly crept behind her with a knife, grabbed her neck and pressed the blade into her cheek, slitting her mouth ear to ear. She was left with a ugly and twisted smile. Blood dripped on her hands. She fell to the floor , hands on her mouth in excruciating pain and on the brink of tears. He screamed at her," Who will think that your beautiful now?"

    Sadly, a few years later she had died.... and returned to earth as an angry spirit, Kuchisake-onna , The Slit-Mouth Woman.

In the late 1970's , a country wide panic broke out that numerous people had claimed to have encountered Kuchisake-onna. More police officers were assigned to night duties. Students were required to walk home in pairs after school. People took extra precautions to avoid this vengeful spirit. Any encounter would be DEADLY.

If you were walking alone, she would appear around a corner wearing a trench coat and a surgical mask. In Japan , her attire would seem out of the ordinary since it was common for people to wear such masks to prevent the spread of germs.

You will assume she is just an ordinary woman. Then... she would approach you and ask," Am I pretty?"

If you say ,"No.", she would pull out her long pair of scissors and kill you on the spot. And if you say,"Yes." , she would bring her face closer and pull back her mask to reveal her disfigured mouth. " AM I PRETTY NOW?" No matter how you respond afterwards , your fate will remain the same.

However, a few school children discovered a way to trick Kuchisake-onna. She asks her question ,responding with an ambiguous," So-so" would make her confused and leave you enough time to run away and escape. Do you want to try your luck?

Beware of the wrath of Kuchisake-onna, the slit-mouthed woman
Her next victim ... may be YOU!
