Freddy's coming for you
1968
A light fog was drifting through the sleepy town of Springwood, casting a sense of eerieness to those who dared venture out into the night. Leaves of brown and red were scattered around the streets and the green lawns of the quiet suburban neighborhood. An autumn comfort in 1968.
Besides the occasional owl hoot, the only sounds were coming from a man racing through his neighborhood. His heavy breathing was pluming in front of his face, his face as white as a ghost. The full moon was brightly shining down on him, lighting up his red and green striped sweater and the bead of sweat rolling down his temple. Freddy Krueger had picked up a dark fedora hat to try to conceal himself, but the mob of angry parents knew everything they needed to about the murderous man in order to track him down.
Freddy could hear trucks revving through the street as the parents were looking for him. He looked back just once to see a pair of bright yellow headlights barreling down the street, then he started running. His long legs took big strides to get down the street as fast as he could without being spotted. He raced to the home that he shared with his daughter, Lilith.
Lilith was just a typical seventeen years old, with no knowledge of her father's vile habits outside of their lovely home. Her honey brown hair was a prized possession of hers, practically brushing it one hundred times every night before bed. Her gray eyes were enchanting for all to see, but nothing held a candle to her brain. An honors student at Springwood High School, she was all set to attend Harvard University the following fall.
When she returned home from school this afternoon, she found a note from her father promising to be home for dinner. She retired to her bedroom where she studied until the sun went down. Her father had not yet returned, so she prepared herself a dinner of leftover meatloaf and green beans. She talked to her best friend on the telephone for a couple of hours where they swooned over the new Elvis Presley picture that was coming out and they made plans to watch it at the nearby drive-in. They also talked about The Beatles while Lily glanced over at her Beatles poster on her wall, and they agreed to go to their favorite diner after school the next day. Lily promised her friend and she was exited to get a burger and a shake with her best friend, especially since they have a math test that afternoon and looked forward to treating herself after. They said goodnight, and they hung up. Neither of them imagined that they would never talk to each other again.
Lily got ready for bed, she wore her lavender cotton babydoll nightgown and properly cleansed her face and brushed her hair. All night she was curious as to why her father had not come home yet, but did not worry herself with it. She got into bed and turned her light off, drifting off to sleep without a care.
Lily didn't wake up when her father slammed the front door shut. He was breathing hard, and pressed his back against the door as he tried to think of what to do next. He knew that there was no getting out of this, but he wasn't ready to face the evil he had become.
Freddy sprinted up the dark staircase and burst into Lily's room. His footsteps rumbled the house. He fell to his knees beside her bed and began shaking her awake.
"Lily, Lily, wake up. Wake up," he said to her as he held a firm grip on her shoulder.
Lily grunted and rubbed her eye as she said, "I'm up, I'm up." Once the frantic tone of her fathers voice registered in her brain, her eyes shot open and she sat up straight. "What's going on?"
"We have to go. Now," he said, grabbing her arm and pulling her out of bed.
Lily was still groggy from the short amount of sleep she got. She couldn't take very big steps because her pastel purple nightgown was too constricting. She glanced outside and saw that the moon was still out, and the city was blanketed by the dark night. She was completely and utterly confused.
"Go where?" She asked as her dad kept his grip on the sleeve of her nightgown tight and he pulled her alongside him through their dark house. "Dad, what's happening?"
Freddy was too frantic and panicked to answer any of his beloved daughters questions. He opened up the back door and they ran through their lawn to head into the woods.
Freddy knew that they needed a car. The mob had slashed his tires, so he couldn't use it. His mind was racing with every thought and possible scenario that could occur to them, but he just knew they had to get out of there. He was going to split town, and they were going to start a new life together in another state.
"Dad, talk to me. You're freaking me out," Lily said. She had the sense that her father was in some sort of trouble, but she didn't understand exactly how much trouble he was in.
Freddy had yet to mention that he was released from prison that morning. Someone in the department did not sign a search warrant in the appropriate place, so he was released on that technicality. Lily was at school, so she was blissfully unaware of his brush with the law.
"There he is!" A man shouted and a bright light shined on Freddy and Lily. Both of them stopped and their breathes got quick.
"Come here," Freddy grunted and pulled her into the nearby bushes. They ran through the woods, with Lily nearly tripping over tree roots and rocks. Rocks and sticks poked her bare feet, making her wince and limp just slightly but Freddy did not let that slow them down.
"Where are we going? Who are those people? Dad!" Lily begged to know.
"I'll tell you soon," he promised.
The mob was chasing them all the way to the boiler room of the Power Plant Freddy worked at. He shut the door behind them and Lily was finally able to breath and try to make sense of what was going on. Freddy started to push objects in front of the door, trying to keep them safe from the mob.
"They won't get to us in here," Freddy promised. Lily was slowly spinning around while she surveyed the room. She had never been there before. She found the room to be dark, gloomy, damp, and gross.
"Who won't? Dad, you're freaking me out," Lily said. She crossed her arms, and made herself look as small as she felt in that situation. She was helpless. She had no idea what was going on and did not appreciate not getting a straight answer from her father.
Her hair fell down in waves down her back, and her comely face was full of worry and concern. She had never seen her father like this before, and it frightened her immensely. She was kept in the dark about the terrible history of the boiler room which Freddy hoped she would never find out about. He had been luring children into the room to kill them for years. He had killed twenty children in that boiler room, and now she was going to pay the price.
"Dad!" She shouted with a stomp of her foot to gain his attention.
"Look, I'm in deep shit, Lily. Really deep shit," he said while he barricaded the door even more. When he finished he walked up to her and gripped her shoulders with his massive hands. He said, "I've done some really bad things."
"What did you do?" She asked, sneering her pink lip just slightly. She never thought her father could harm a fly, but she knew it must be really bad.
"I..." he couldn't say it. Not to his daughter. She looked at him like he was her world, he didn't want to ruin that image of himself in her eyes.
The parents of Springwood's murdered children formed a mob to attack Freddy themselves to avenge their children. They burst into his house, but saw that he was already gone. In their blind rage, they remembered where he would take the children and raced to the Power Plant. There, they saw Freddy through the window of the boiler room.
"He's in there!" Freddy heard.
This prompted him to grab a hold of Lily and pull her in front of him to act as a human shield. He pressed her back against his chest, and refused to let her go even though she jumped and tried to escape his tight grasp.
"What are you doing?!" She shouted.
"Hey! An innocent girl is down here!" Freddy shouted. Lily struggled under his grasp, but he didn't let go. He gripped her tighter, digging his fingers into the flesh of her arm and using her to survive. She was his last hope.
The parents outside were seeing red and they didn't hear Freddy's shouts. They threw a gasoline soaked roll of toilet paper through the broken window, and they set the boiler room ablaze.
It lit up like a Christmas tree, with the flames dancing in Lily's terrified eyes. Her heart was pounding out of her chest, and her natural instinct told her to get out of that room, but there was no where to go. They were both trapped.
"Shit," Freddy said under his breath. Lily slipped from his grasp and she bolted straight for the door. She tried to get the barricades out of the way, but the flames had jumped to them already, making it impossible for her to touch them without burning herself. She was barefoot so she couldn't kick them out of the way, and the metal on the walls of the room were heating up like an oven.
"Dad! Dad, I'm scared," Lily cried out. The flames were spreading, and she had never felt more hopeless and terrified in her entire life. She blinked hard continuously, the smoke was making her eyes sting.
"I know," Freddy stated softly.
"Get me out!" Lily cried out, hoping those outside the window could hear her and show mercy. "Get me out of here, please!"
Freddy looked around, listening to his only daughter cry and began for her life. He knew that there was no way out. He looked at his daughter with a longing face, and didn't want her to leave this world in the most painful way imaginable: burning alive.
He turned his head and found his glove of knives and sighed. He marched over to the table, that was just being licked by the flames. He slipped the glove on to his right hand, and he slowly wiggled his fingers. Lily spun around when she heard the knives sliding against each other, as if he was sharpening them. She coughed and asked, "what is that?"
Freddy ignored her and he grabbed a hold on her elbow so she couldn't run away from him. The smoke made him cough too, but he gripped her harder when she tried to flee.
"Dad..." her voice was shaky. She could not predict what was going to happen, and she was terrified. Tears welled in her eyes, and Freddy could see the flames that danced in them. They didn't have a lot of time.
He tried to only focus on the crackling sound of the fire to reminded him of why he was doing this. He set one of the blades against her forearm. He tried not to cry as he said through his trembling lips, "I'm sorry."
Freddy dug the rusty blade into her flesh, slicing open her skin and muscles. Her arm began to burn as if it was stung by a hundred fire ants all at once, and she felt sweaty and faint. Blood pooled down her nightgown as she screamed out in pain and tried to jerk her hand away.
"Dad! What the fuck?!" She screamed out and her slippery blood made her slip out of his grasp. Her arm began to burn immensely, and paired with the heat from the fire caused her to sweat. She tried to pinch the slices of skin back together, but her blood was coming out too quickly and it was far too painful for her.
The room was getting hotter, and it was getting difficult for the Krueger's to see and breathe. Freddy looked at Lily with sorrow, and didn't think that she was dying fast enough. He didn't want her to suffer, so he raised his bladed glove once again, and accidentally knicked her cheek while she doubled over from the pain. Freddy just tried to imagine his little girl to be one of the kids he mercilessly murdered, and he slashed his entire glove through her stomach.
Lily screamed out in agony and she collapsed to the floor. Her eyes bulged as her exposed nerves burned and twisted, which made her gurgle with dark scarlet blood seeping out from between her lips. Her lungs burned from the smoke, and she couldn't breathe. Her crimson blood pooled around her.
Meanwhile, outside, one of the parents shuffled to the window when they heard another scream. He squinted through the smoke filled window, until he saw that Freddy wasn't alone.
"Guys, someone is in there with him!" He shouted.
The parents all rushed to the window to see Freddy standing over Lily's body, with his bladed glove glistening from the fire. The flames danced in their vision, and they all felt the same chill down their necks when Freddy's head slowly lifted up and looked back at them through the glass. They killed an innocent teenager.
One of the other parents grabbed a massive rock and smashed it through the hot window. He yelled over the sound of the roaring fire, "get her out of there!"
Freddy looked back down at his daughter, and all the life had left his eyes. The parents continued to beg Freddy to let his daughter out, which didn't take much convincing. Freddy knew that Lily was dying, but his love for his daughter was too big to let her body burn in that room. He lifted her up and held her limp body in his arms. Her arm fell limp, where droplets of blood dripped from her fingertips and onto the ground. He walked to the window and pushed her through the broken glass. The parents grabbed her body and they rushed across the street from the Power Plant. They laid her down on the dewy grass, and tried desperately to resuscitate her. Despite being the daughter of a monster, the entire community adored Lily. She was a loving babysitter, a helpful tutor, and an amazing friend to all. She was well loved in Springwood, especially throughout Elm Street.
Freddy began screaming when the flames finally found his sweater. His fair skin began to bubble and blister at the intense heat, and the fire danced over his thick pants and hair as well. He knocked his hat off, but his hair quickly seared from the fire. He tried to rip off his sweater, but it was too late. The fire traveled to his skin, burning him alive and melting off his flesh. He could feel every single one of his nerves slowly burning until they were so damaged, he felt nothing at all.
All the parents could hear was the sound of Freddy's screams at he slowly burned to death in the boiler room. They feverishly attempted to revive Lily, but they were unsuccessful. They were too late.
One of the parents, Marge Thompson, looked up at the others after resting her ear against Lily's chest, failing to hear a heartbeat. She lifted her head up and looked at the poor girl with sorrow and tears in her eyes. Lily was looking up at the sky with wide eyes, but she was not seeing anything. Most of her blood had left her body, making her face appear ghostly pale and eyes sunken. Her hands were already cold, and her fingernails were beginning to turn purple. Marge looked to the rest of the parents and asked, "what should we do?"
Their leader, Peter Lantz, ruthlessly said, "let's bury her. Everyone will assume that she skipped town. No one can to know about this. We must never speak of this night."
An explosion caused all the parents to jump, and they could hear Freddy's screams of pure anguish as he burned up in the boiler room. Soon, he was silent. The only noises that filled the dead air was the crackling sounds of the fire continuing to burn. They pulled Lily's dead body out of the way and into the nearby woods.
They worked together to use their hands to bury the girl in the woods where no one would ever find her. Tears were shed, and prayers were said in hopes that she would find peace and forgiveness after this tragic night. Together, they took a vow to never bring up this night again.
They left, thinking their nightmares were over. In reality, they only just begun.
