Fate

The multiple connecting islands, babbling streams, rolling breezes, and the pleasant daylight welcome the divine quintet. The jaws of Orpheus, Echo, and Hippolyta almost drop to the floor.

"By the gods!" Echo exclaims while her crown of flowers bloom. "It's so beautiful here!"

The mountain nymph's feet are happy to run through the lush meadows of grass until she stops to face Demeter.

"Sorry, Yia (grandma). We are supposed to be-"

The gentle ruffling of her hair cuts her off. No sign of frustration from the deity of the harvest.

"You all are free to explore Elysium to your heart's content," Demeter then turns to Orpheus. "Go be with Eurydice. I will be okay."

The musical demigod shakes his head. "I am with you, goddess. I...know I will see her again."

Hippolyta crosses her arms. "Again?"

"I can see...glimpses of us reuniting," he almost chuckles. "Takashi is the reason for that."

Echo grasps the hands of Persephone and Demeter. "I'm with my family again. Wait! Does that mean Mother and Father are here?!"

The goddess of the Underworld answers with a smile.

The nymph's heart bounces with joy before she stills it. "I will see them after we're done."

"Same here, "the Amazon queen comments while turning her blushing face.

The Olympian goddess smiles with relief that she won't face the strand of fate alone. "Daughter, how do we find Iasion?"

"Think of him, call out his name, and the right island will appear. It may also include" Persephone explains.

Demeter imagines the true love of her life. His strands of hay blonde hair flowing in the wind. His crooked smile that decorates his olive-skinned face. His rough palms that would hold her still from her night terrors. Their lips reuniting over and over again.

She tries to shout out Iasion's name, but regret bubbles up.

Persephone's firm grip suffocates it. "He never stopped loving you, mother," she plants a kiss on her cheek. "Call for him."

The Olympian's lungs take in oxygen. She draws her shoulders back while gripping the grass with her toes.

"IAAAAASSSIOOON!"

Her voice echoes throughout the realm of Elysium. The islands circle around to her proclamation of love until one stopped. Pink peonies, violet orchids, red poppies, and sunflowers on the hillside greet the goddess and her group. Demeter's hands caress the blooming flowers she knows her lover grew.

Her wheat-colored eyes look around. A stream of water passes over the hilltop, but he's not there. The others follow up the hill to find a small lake down below. The waters open up.

Demeter's smile accompanies her joyful tears. The others are elated from seeing a restored Scylla run up with a bounce in her step.

Gladius smiles upon his lover embracing the goddess.

The Olympian holds her like a mother. "Forgive me for not protecting you."

The water nymph's fingers trace her hands. "I don't regret it. Thank you for restoring me, Lady Demeter," her voice is as pleasant as a babbling brook. "Is everything alright?"

The goddess holds her hands with care. "Taki's safe. I think he still blames himself for what happened."

"Please let him know I saved him because I wanted to. And I'm finally with my love in this wonderful realm," she smiles from ear to ear.

Demeter smiles. "I will let him know. Have you seen or met-"

Another pair of running footsteps halt her sentence. His scent trails into her nostrils. Her heart outraces a rabbit. She slowly turns to the side.

Iasion stops running while keeping the beautiful bouquet intact with one hand. Their eyes meet once again with hearts yearning to be reunited.

"Hello, everyone," his rough voice is laden with honey. He kneels down in his farmer's tunic. "My Demeter."

In an instant, she tackles him with an embrace. Orpheus and Hippolyta almost let out a laugh from the lack of hesitation. They roll down the hill without any pain thanks to the afterlife realm. Petals from the bouquet scatter all around while Echo sheds happy tears for them.

Demeter buries her head into Iasion's chest. He rubs her back as she sobs.

"I'm sorry. So sorry," her voice breaks.

His thumbs wipe her tears away. Emerald eyes expressing only love. "Don't be," he cups her face. "I'm just glad you're here, my love."

"Why? Why do you still love me? You died because of me!"

"It's not your fault," his whispers reach her heart. "I will always be here for you."

Iasion sits up with her in his arms. He nears his face and nuzzles his nose against hers. The tickling sensation breaks a laugh out of her mouth. Her beloved responds with a smile while having a hand on her cheek.

"May I kiss-"

Demeter pushes him down with reuniting lips. Her arms and legs wrap around his lean body like tree branches. Their hearts pound faster in rhythm as their lips reconnect countless times. Soft kisses decorate each other's cheeks before a long kiss with their eyes open.

Their lips finally separate.

"I love you, my blossom. I always will."

"I love you too, my farmer," she smiles. She slowly stands up while pulling him up.

"Iasion, I need your help," she continues to hold his hands. "My friend Nyx left an important gift for me."

He nods his head. "It's at our home. Come," he leads her by the hand while the others follow over the next hill.

The Olympian gasps. A field of tomatoes and corn sits in front of their abode that sits between two trees that continue to stretch to the sky. A half circle of water surrounds the back of their house to continuously feed the field.

The others marvel as they step on the soft foundation. Iasion leads his beloved inside to a furnished kitchen with a comfortable dirt floor that feel like stepping on a cloud.

He takes the box from under his bed and hands it to Demeter. She places it on the table and slowly opens it.

A moonlit glow envelops the room from the single strand of fate that awaits them. Orpheus grips his lyre. Hippolyta clenches her hands while Echo prays that this will not only bring justice, but to also return Takashi home.

He's been away for so long. Please. Please. Please let him return home. His family needs him.

Demeter's hand trembles as she reaches for it.

What if there's no hope for any of us? Nyx, I need your strength. What if I'm not strong enough?

Her wrist is gently grasped by the firm hand of her lover.

"I'm right here, my blossom. No matter what happens."

Echo and Hippolyta place hands of support on the Olympian's back. "We are here for you too."

Music spurns from Orpheus lyre to settle her shaking heart.

The Goddess of the Harvest nods with newfound determination. With their help, her index finger and thumb pinch the strand of fate.

The singular object wraps around her fingers. Her Olympian aura of the four seasons emanate from her body as the information enters her mind. Thanks to her godly status, she can process all of the actions of what they must perform. Her lips quiver from her future actions along with the others.

However, an added piece only confounds her. The back of an armored man wearing a turtle shell with wings of a bird she had never seen before. Feathers from his sides flow from the wind. He turns to face her.

A gasp of horror leaves her lips when the full context hits her. The strand of fate vanishes after completing its task.

Heavy breaths leave the goddess' lips from the last few images.

Echo rubs her back. "Ya-ya, what did you see?"

She swallows the lump in her throat. "Zeus will be punished at the end. We each have a part to play."

The good news only lasts a moment when she tries to tell them the last of what she saw. The words can't come out no matter how hard she tries.

Iasion and Echo hold her close as heavy tears race down her face.

She clenches her teeth before letting out her agony.

"NYX, IT'S NOT FAIR! HE DID NOTHING WRONG! HE DOESN'T DESERVE THIS!"
