Chapter 1

40 years after John's Death

Sunlight filtered through the window as Rex's alarm went off. "Ugh, server," Rex groaned as he rolled out his bed. A robot bustled into the room. "What would you like to eat for breakfast?"

"Just some eggs and bacon."

As the robot left the room, Rex walked over to the mirror hanging on his wall. Rex Oedipus was 24 years old, tall, woith a mop of unruly dirty blonde hair. He was thin, with lean muscle. Average, but nothing special.

Rex changed into his normal attire and left the room. He walked down the stairs to the dining room and sat down as soon as the robot carried his food into the room. As usual, the eggs were scrambled and the bacon was juicy and crispy. As Rex finished his last slice of bacon there was a knock at the door. "Come in," Rex said through a full mouth. The door opened and Rex's Great Uncle Gerald walked in.

"Good morning Rex, am I too late for breakfast?"

"No, of course not. What would you like?"

"Just some toast and suasages."

Great Uncle Gerald ate his breakfast quickly, then pulled a small, thick, leatherbound book from his pocket.

"This was your great grandfather John's journal, Rex," Gerald declared as he placed the book in front of Rex. "I thought is was stolen and never found again," Rex said as he eyed the book. "Well, someone from the Police found it and gave it to me, the eldest of John's sons," Gerald replied. "Open it."

Rex opened the book where the book mark was. A patch of old, dried blood had stained the page, but it was still readable. The title of the page said, "The Kraken's Amulet." Rex scanned the page and found a history of the fabled Kraken's Amulet, used to control the Kraken. The writing ended in an indistinct scribble that looked as though the writer's hand had slipped.

"Rex, I want you to find this amulet for me. I want to add iit to my museum of artifacts," Gerald said when Rex stopped reading. "Well, I'm going to need a guide to find this amulet," Rex stated. "I have some maps from your great grandfather. They show the direction of where the amulet is." Gerald produced a large piece of perchment.

"I also know some one who can help you get the amulet," Gerald said as Rex took the map. "If we want to find her, though, we had better leave before noon."
