Red Riding Hood 1: Yoonmin *M*
Written for my awesome friend Jcloli!
~•~
Just another day in the hundred acre wood, Jimin skips merrily through the forest as he picked berries and apples for his special treats he was planning to deliver to his grandmother. His grandmother lives across the woods, near the giant lake, but the path to get to her house is very tricky, and usually takes Jimin a couple hours to walk to her house.
Recently though for his birthday, Jimin was given a bicycle for his travels, and with some help from his friend Hoseok, he was able to ride his bike in half the time to his grandmother's house. Once he fills his basket with fruit to make goodies, he mounts his bike and begins his fifteen minute ride back to the village. He likes to take his time riding, one to enjoy the woodsy scenery. And two, the longer he's away from his home where his alcoholic mother and bastard of a father live, the happier he is.
As he rode through the woods, he smiled and hummed to himself, sometimes even sang a line that was in his head. He can hear twigs snapping and acorns falling off of trees from the squirrels chasing one another. He just giggles, watching them bolt and jump until he hears a particularly loud snap behind him. He turns his head, expecting to see something. He sees something black dart across the path but didn't get a good glimpse at it. His chain on his bike snaps in half, and he topples over in. He screams, his basket of goodies going one way and himself flying the other. He lands with a hard thud on his stomach, the wind knocked out of him.
He stands slowly, his ribs hurt and his knees and hands, lifting his hands to see they were dirty and scratched up from catching himself.
"Those are some nasty wounds you got there," A deep voice spoke to him.
He jerks his head up, coming face to face with a man who was literally standing two feet from him. He sits up on his knees, clearing his throat, "I'm sorry sir, I didn't mean to intrude-"
The man chuckles, uncrossing his arms and squatting down to face Jimin, "It's alright pup, I heard your chain snap. Want me to look at it?"
Jimin smiles, "Oh would you care to? I hate to be a bother but I'm still a few miles away from home."
The man chuckles again, standing and holding his rough looking hands out to Jimin, "I'm Yoongi."
Jimin takes his hands into his softer, smaller ones, being pulled up from the ground, "Nice to meet you Yoongi, I'm Jimin."
"Alright, let's take a look," Yoongi walks over to the bike, seeing that the chain is in fact broken as it wound around the spokes. Yoongi whistles, "Damn, this is nasty."
Jimin bites his lip, watching as Yoongi worked his hands and unwound the chain from his tire spokes. Jimin took the time to admire the man, from his large and veiny hands, to his slightly messy black hair as it hung in his face. His cat like eyes were darker than the dirt after a rain storm, they were intimidating, but when they looked at Jimin they were soft. He wore a pair of black basketball shorts and a black t-shirt, seemingly comfortable for the slightly chilly October weather. Yoongi holds the chain up to Jimin, shaking his head pitifully, "Whoever gave you this bike, did a shitty job replacing the chain. This should've been thrown out years ago." Jimin sighs sadly, watching as Yoongi continued to nit pick and grumble about the condition of the bike. Finally he stands, "Well, I got good news and bad news."
"Bad news first please," Jimin said softly, afraid of what he was going to hear.
"Alright, you're bike is completely incapable of going anywhere right now. You won't be able to ride it back to your house without a chain," He holds the chain up, "So you may have to continue your journey on foot." Jimin pouts, causing the man before him to chuckle and tilt his head up with a finger under the chin, "Good news is pup, that I can get you a brand new chain and fix it for you."
Jimin's face lights up, but Yoongi presses a finger to his plump lips to silence him, "However, not for free." Jimin gulps, looking down at himself as he caught the drift, and slowly grabs the hem of his bright red sweatshirt to raise it up. Yoongi stops him, shaking his head, "Not what I meant pup, all I'm asking is for you to be present and talk to me as I fix it. You don't have to spend a dime, just spend your time."
Jimin giggles, "That rhymed."
Yoongi smiles, "So what do you say? We have a deal?"
Jimin nods, "Yeah, we have a deal."
Yoongi nods back, "Great, here I'll help you carry your goodies back to your village. I'll bring your bike back to my place and tomorrow just meet me at this location and I'll take you there."
Jimin looks around, not seeing anything for him to indicate he's at the right spot, until Yoongi chuckles, walking over to a tree. He takes out a ball of tape, bright orange and makes a single circle around a tree closest to the path. When he was done, he nods, "Just find the orange tree and you'll find me."
Jimin nods, smiling as he walks over to his basket of goodies. Yoongi and him clean up his mess, the raspberries were all over the place and he was having a hard time finding most of the blueberries. Yoongi drops a handful of black berries in his basket, "There, say what are you using these for anyway?"
"I'm making some treats for my grandmother. I actually just came back from her house and she told me some stories," Jimin smiles, "They're kind of silly and childish but I guess I'm a child at heart."
"What kind of stories," Yoongi asks, taking the basket from Jimin's hands and carrying it with him as they made their way to Jimin's village.
"Something about the wolves of the woods, and to not go walking or riding in the woods at night," Jimin rolls his eyes, "My grandmother is slowly losing her mind being in that house by herself."
Yoongi was silent, continuing to walk and listen to Jimin ramble. Finally, after a twenty minute walk, they made it to Jimin's village gate which was being guarded by gate guards. Jimin waves to his buddy, Jungkook, and the boy lets him in. Jimin takes the basket from Yoongi, smiling, "Thank you for walking with me. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Absolutely," Yoongi nods, turning to walk back up the path, "Meet me at the orange tree."
Jimin nods, watching Yoongi disappear into the trees and not once turning back. He frowns, "I wonder why he lives in the woods."
~•~
Just as he had promised, Jimin went back the next day to meet Yoongi at the orange tree. Low and behold, there he stood in the same black t-shirt and black shorts. Jimin went back into the woods with him, trailing away from the path. He was starting to worry, never having been off the path before and Yoongi chuckles, "Don't worry, I'll get you back to the path when we're done."
Jimin nods, continuing to walk in comfortable silence with Yoongi until they get to a small village. He froze, seeing people stop and stare back at him too. Yoongi takes Jimin's hand, pulling him through the small houses and people, not paying any mind to them as they reach a small house with Jimin's bright red bike sitting in front of it waiting for them. When they sit down to begin working on the bike, a man with glasses and bleached blonde hair walks up to Jimin and Yoongi, he was wearing a grey t-shirt and black basketball shorts to match Yoongi, "Yoongs, who's this?"
"Namjoon, this is Jimin," Yoongi gestures to the boy, who brushes his pink hair behind his ears nervously, "He's the owner of the bike I'm fixing up. Jimin, this is my best friend, Namjoon."
Jimin smiles, Namjoon nods to him before looking back at Yoongi with piercing black eyes, "Can I speak to you?"
Yoongi sighs, standing and walking with the taller to a more secluded area. Jimin knew he shouldn't but something peeked his interest when he heard one of them hissing his name. He stands, peeking his head around the corner to see both males snarling at one another but what shocked Jimin the most was their red eyes. He gasps quietly, sitting back down and pretending to be busy until Yoongi came back into the view. He sits back in his spot, smiling slightly to Jimin, "So tell me more about yourself Jimin."
The afternoon was filled with chatter, Jimin rambles about his life and trying to avoid the topics of his mother and father. Yoongi noticed this, but didn't push it any further. At one point when it was silent, Jimin bounces his leg as he smiles at Yoongi, "So what village is this? I had no idea there was one this deep into the woods."
"This is our little village we all just made to get away from society and it's rules," Yoongi chuckles, "Out here, we have no worries about boundaries and property or taxes and food storage. We're all family here, and we all respect one another and know the right from wrong."
Jimin giggles, "Like a wolf pack."
Yoongi stiffens slightly, but nods, "Yeah, like a wolf pack."
"Do you guys have a leader?"
Yoongi nods, "Yeah, you probably wouldn't be interested in him though."
Jimin shrugs, "You'll never know."
Yoongi smirks, looking down at the ground for a second before looking back up at him, "It's me."
"Alpha!" A voice calls to him and a boy with light brown hair stops in front of them short. His eyes widen when he sees Jimin, then turns back to Yoongi, "Sorry, Yoongi, I didn't know if you heard the news or not, but Mark and Kihyun gave birth this morning. Mark and Jackson have a little boy and Kihyun and Shownu have a little girl."
"No I had no idea," Yoongi smiles, "Tell them both I'll see the newest members after I drop Jimin back off at his village."
The boy looks to Jimin shyly, his boxy grin widens when Jimin smiles at him first, "I'm Taehyung, Yoongi is my cousin."
"Nice to meet you!" Jimin exclaims, "I had no idea you guys have babies."
"Oh yeah, not very many but we have babies here," Taehyung smiles again, noticing the look Yoongi was giving him and he swallows, "Well I'll see you later Jiminie! Bye Yoongi."
As he runs off, Jimin frowns, "Why did he call you-"
"Done!" Yoongi interrupts Jimin, standing, "You officially have a working bike!"
Jimin smiles, "Thank you so much!"
"I couldn't help but notice this bike is kind of in rough shape, I'd be happy to replace the problems I had seen while fixing the chain?" Yoongi asks nervously, scratching the back of his neck.
"Uhm," Jimin bites his lip, "Do I need to pay you for it?"
"What did I say? I don't want you to spend a dime, I just want you to spend your time," Yoongi chuckles, "For now, you can ride it, but come back at the orange tree tomorrow and I'll fix the handle bars, they need greased really badly."
Jimin nods, "Okay!"
Yoongi stands, gesturing to the woods, "Come on, I'll walk you home."
~•~
Yoongi and Jimin met plenty more times after that. Sometimes, Jimin would leave really early in the morning and not come back home until close to dark. Aiding by his grandmother's will, he stayed away from the woods at dark, afraid of the wolves that lurked and hid in the thick forest. When he was with Yoongi, he felt comfortable, felt like he can be himself. He wasn't sad or depressed like he usually is when he stayed home to care for his passed out mother, or when his father got home from hunting he was there to scold him for the way the house looked. He always described it as a pig sty. He visited his grandmother in the morning's first, then on his way back he always met Yoongi at the orange tree, feeling like there was something always watching him.
One morning, he drank coffee with his grandmother, his bright red sweatshirt was torn down the side from his father dragging him to the house the other night when it was dark and he was trying to get in the gate. His grandmother shakes her head, "That sweatshirt is old and needs to be thrown out Jimin."
"I know grandmother, but it's the only one I have. And with winter coming soon-"
She pats his head, standing and walking over to her hallway closet and pulls out something bright red. She hands it to him, a kind smile on her face, "I made you a new one. And it's bright red to protect you from the wolves."
"Grandmother," Jimin sighs, "I haven't seen any wolves the past few weeks. Are you sure you see them? Are you hallucinating again?"
"No my dear, they're out there," She looks out the window, "In fact, one followed you here."
Jimin frowns, turning his head to look out the window behind him and seeing nothing. He frowns, "Grandmother I think you need to lay down."
She rolls her eyes, allowing her grandson to lead her to her bedroom and tuck her into bed. It was only nine in the morning, but she needed to rest. She was hallucinating more and her memory was almost non existing. He hugs his grandmother, ready to pull away but she holds on to him as she whispers in his ear, "Tutela a malo, quod autem lupi defendat."
He frowns, pulling away to see her fast asleep. He shakes his head, turning to leave the house with his new red sweatshirt on his body. Once he closes the door, he locks it with his spare key, then turning to grab his bike. He is stopped short with a startled gasp, Yoongi standing in front of him oddly close, "God, Yoongi! Don't scare me like that!"
Yoongi chuckles, "Sorry, I seen you head down this way and thought I'd just walk with you to my village when you were done."
"So you followed me," Jimin teased, grinning until he remembered what his grandmother had said. They're out there, and one had followed you here. He clears his throat, grabbing his bike and following Yoongi as he walked through the crunchy leaves, "Did you by any chance see a wolf when you were walking here?"
Yoongi arches his eyebrow, smirking slightly, "No, did you?"
"No," He sighs, "My grandmother is hallucinating again and I'm really worried about her."
Yoongi chuckles, wrapping his arm around the boy as he sighs, "Sometimes, what we see in our minds is what we actually see in real life."
Jimin shakes his head, nudging him as they continued to walk, "You're starting to sound like her."
The day is filled with laughter and Yoongi finishing up the remodeling of Jimin's bike. He managed to put it together again with some new pieces after he torn it apart, and left a brand new bike in Jimin's view. They still had plenty of time before Jimin had to go back to his home, so Jimin took the chance to meet some members of Yoongi's village and noticed now the children running around and playing. When it was starting to get dark, Yoongi lead Jimin back to the orange tree and stopped the younger before he can leave, "I have something I want to say."
Jimin nods, giving him permission to continue. Yoongi takes in a deep breath, "I... I really like you Jimin... and more than a friend. I see myself courting you and marrying you. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm in love with you."
Jimin smiles, wrapping his arms around Yoongi's waist and locking eyes with him, "I'm in love with you too."
Yoongi smiles, cupping Jimin's face and leans closer until their lips touch. Jimin's lips were like cocaine. They gave Yoongi a rush and made his heart beat a hundred times per minute. He felt like he just received energy just from that kiss. Jimin moans quietly, Yoongi deepening the kiss and his tongue traces Jimin's. When they pull away, Jimin notices how dark it is and his eyes widen, "Yoongi I need to get home."
"Why? It's just the night," Yoongi arches his eyebrow, linking their fingers together as he held the younger's hand.
"The wolves, they'll-"
"The wolves aren't going to hurt you I promise," Yoongi chuckles, looking into those beautiful brown eyes of the pinkette, "I know..... because I'm one of them."
Jimin frowns, waiting for Yoongi to laugh and say it was a joke, but he doesn't. Instead, Yoongi stares back at him and waits for Jimin's reaction. Jimin gulps, looking back into those charcoal eyes, "So.... this entire time I haven't seen any wolves but they've been here?"
"Yes, we're here," Yoongi whispers, "We've been watching over you, protecting you. Your grandmother actually talks to us quite a bit," Yoongi chuckles, "Have you heard her say here recently, 'Quod autem lupi defendat?'"
Jimin nods, everything hitting him at once and Yoongi chuckles, "That means, 'The wolves will protect,' in Latin. Your grandmother asked me to protect you, she must've sensed my fondness towards you."
Jimin lets out a shaky breath, laying his head on Yoongi's chest, "So you're here to protect me? Not harm me?"
"Exactly my love," Yoongi whispers, kissing the crown of his head, "Let's get you home. I'm sure your parents will be worried."
"My father will be furious for being out passed the gate this late," Jimin sighs, running a hand through his hair at the thought of what his father will do to him when he returned home this late in the night.
"Well, we can't have your father be angry can we?"
Jimin shakes his head, following Yoongi down the path as they get closer and closer to the gate. When the get closer, they notice no gate guards are there waiting and Jimin curses, looking around, "How am I gonna get in now?!"
Yoongi chuckles, "Follow me."
Jimin nods, following the older as he weaved through the trees expertly and the weeds. They had went around the gated village about halfway when Jimin seen a small entry way, anyone or anything could easily slip through if they were to try. Jimin's eyes widen and Yoongi walks up to it, "Let's go."
Yoongi easily slips through, baffling Jimin and he does the same to follow after the older. Yoongi zips through behind the houses, Jimin can now tell he's like a stealthy animal as they are sneaking behind houses and small barns. He stops behind Jimin's house, smirking, "I've been following you for quite some time."
Jimin rolls his eyes, peeking in the window to see his room, not seeing his mother or father around. He turns to Yoongi, giving him a quick kiss before opening his window and sliding in. Yoongi keeps watch, making sure Jimin is okay before waving good bye to him. Jimin sticks his head out, pouting cutely and making the older chuckle, reaching up to kiss him, "Now go before you are seen."
Yoongi leaves, and Jimin shuts his window and acts like nothing had been misplaced. He hears heavy footsteps and his father enters the room, a glare in his eyes, "Where have you been?"
"I was at grandmother's taking care of her," Jimin spoke softly, bowing his head as his father stepped closer to him.
"We found wolf tracks today," His father grunts, "I don't want you going in those woods anymore."
"What!? But what about grandmother-"
"She's lived this long she'll be fine not getting cared for," his father snarls, "You don't need to waste your time on her when it's this house and your mother you need to care for."
Jimin let his anger get the best of him and spits out the words without thinking, "Mother is not sick like grandmother, she just drinks herself to death because she's ashamed of her life."
A smack was heard and Jimin's cheek was on fire. His head had turned with the slap, and when he turns it back to glare at his father the man growls, "Don't ever speak to me that way again. And do not talk ill about your mother, she is the woman who chose to have you so you respect her."
Jimin doesn't say anything as his father turns and walks out, but is stopped short when a wolf stood there in the doorway. The canine was the size of a miniature horse, built large and muscular. It snarls and growls at Jimin's father, and Jimin's father is taken aback at the large wolf in his house. The wolf keeps his eyes on Jimin's father, only sparing a small glance at Jimin before focusing back on the hunter.
Jimin's father looked around for something to throw at the wolf, but Jimin steps in front of him, "Don't harm it, please."
"Jimin you-" his father grabs him by the hair and pulls him away from the wolf. The wolf barks, lunging at them and bites down hard on Jimin's father's arm. The man screams, letting go of Jimin to ball his fist up and hit the wolf on the snout. The wolf refused to let go, and once Jimin was away he did.
His dad growls, charging after the wolf, "You bastard-"
The wolf snarls, blood dripping from his snout as he turns and runs off. His dad chases after it, but loses sight of it once he's out of the room. He sneers, "Jimin, how do you feel about making wolf stew for dinner?"
Jimin pushes his father down, "No! You're not hurting him!"
His father stands and grabs Jimin's hair, dragging him to his room and throwing him to the ground. Jimin lands on his stomach, standing to protect himself when really his father just closed the door and bolted it on the outside. Jimin runs to it, trying to bust it down but his dad laughs darkly, "You're going to stay here and rot while I go hunt for me a new winter coat. A wolf skinned winter coat."
Jimin beats on the door, screaming for his father as he walks off, not even taking care of his wounds. Jimin pants turning to the window and opening it. He jumps out, looking around to make sure his father didn't see him as he sneaks through the way Yoongi showed him. He had to warn the wolves, he had to warn Yoongi.
He finds the small crack, slipping through and running into the dark forest. Careful of his steps to not make a sound as he races to Yoongi's village (or his pack which he explained to Jimin earlier).
He races through the trees, hearing twigs and leaves crunch all around him and in the distance. He heard a lone wolf howl, then the whole pack following suit after the lone wolf. He freezes, listening where they're coming from before racing towards them. He caught sights of the pack village, not stopping until he seen someone, "Jimin?" Seokjin, Namjoon's mate, asked as he stood up with his child in his arms.
Jimin pants for air, hunkered down as he tried to catch his breath, "Where's... Yoongi," he gasps, coughing violently.
"He and the other Alphas went to go hunt," Seokjin frowns, "What's wrong?"
"My dad," Jimin clears his throat, tears started forming in his eyes, "He attacked my dad, and now my dad's trying to hunt him down."
Seokjin gasps, "Oh god."
"I have to stop them, I had to warn you all because my dad doesn't stop unless he gets what he wants."
"Which is..."
"He..." Jimin swallows, "He wants Yoongi's fur."
"Jimin."
The boy turns, seeing Yoongi and a few other wolves enter the camp. Jimin let's out a relieved sigh and goes to hug the older. When he pulls away he cups Yoongi's cheeks, "Yoongi, my father will not stop hunting you until you're dead. We need to get the pack out of here."
"Jimin," Yoongi shakes his head, "We can't leave. Its suicide with the winter approaching and the new pups-"
Jimin starts crying, "I don't want to lose you. Or any of the pack for that matter, I can't live with myself if my father came here and killed every single one of you out of spite."
"You won't lose me," Yoongi says sternly, "Because you're staying with me. With us."
