Walking through the quiet house that you and your boyfriend lived in together had you on eggshells. If he was sleeping, you worried that you'd wake him. Since he was an idol, you were worried that he wasn't even home yet.
You walked around the corner of the kitchen and jumped as you nearly bumped into someone. You gasped with a hand on your chest as your boyfriend tried not to laugh at you.
"Sorry, Chaerin." Jeonghan said. "How was work?"
"Draining, as usual. We almost lost someone on the operating table, but we finally got him stabilized." You pushed your hair back. "How was the photo shoot?"
His smile grew. "My photos turned out really good. The staff said I couldn't show you yet, though, so you'll have to wait like all of the other Carats."
"That's fine." You chuckled. "I don't mind waiting."
He grabbed your hand and walked up stairs with you. He gave you one of his shirts to change into for bed, then laid down as you changed out of your scrubs. You sighed as you laid next to him.
"I thought you wouldn't even be home, Jeonghan." You said.
He grabbed your hand and kissed the back of it. "I'll always do my best to be home before you go to bed, Chaerin. I know our schedules really don't match up, but we've been making it work."
"The world needs us, just for different reasons." You replied. "I'm sorry we can't go out more often."
"Just being with you makes me happy."
You smiled and ran your thumb across the back of his hand. You found a place on his chest for your head to rest and listened to his breathing. Being a doctor and him being an idol meant that both of you were always busy. It was hard to always do things together, and that sometimes sent you into a frenzy, thinking that maybe Jeonghan would get tired of it, but he had always stuck by your side.
When you had bad days at the hospital and lost way too many people during surgery, or when you didn't feel good, or just when you needed a hug - he was always there. You always tried to do the same for him as well, and that's what he loved most about you - your commitment to him and all of the other things you loved.
"Will you be able to make it to the concert tomorrow?" He asked.
You looked up at him. "That's the plan. Hopefully I don't get called in."
The boys were in their dressing room when you FaceTimed Jeonghan.
"Oh! It's Chaerin, I'll answer it." Seungkwan said as he answered Jeonghan's phone. "Hi, Chaerin!"
"Hey, Boo. Where's Jeonghan?"
"Getting his hair done. What's up?"
You sighed. "Will you tell him that I got called in to watch over college students?"
"No!" Jeonghan whined from his chair. "Really?"
Seungkwan handed the phone to your boyfriend and Jeonghan pouted. "I'm sorry, babe. I was really hoping that I could make it. Next time for sure, I'll make it happen."
"Okay." He sighed unhappily. "I love you."
"I love you. I hope everyone has a super fun time."
Jeonghan nodded and you hung up. Seungcheol patted him on the back and looked at him through the mirror.
"She always tries." Seungcheol said.
Jeonghan nodded. "I know."
Not too long after that, the boys got on stage for their concert. All Jeonghan could think about was how badly he wanted you in the audience. Towards the end of their concert, Carats started noticing how Jeonghan was kind of out of it and looking more weak than he should. The members started noticing after Carats subtly pointed it out to them. They took a small break to see if Jeonghan was okay, but Vernon could tell that Jeonghan's breathing wasn't normal.
"Jeonghan? Do we need to get the staff?" Vernon asked.
Jeonghan weakly shook his head. "Call Chaerin."
Everyone looked at one another as Chan called you. You picked up on the second ring.
"Chan? Aren't you supposed to be in the middle of a concert?" You questioned.
"Something's wrong with Jeonghan. He's not breathing properly and I think he might be overheating."
Your heart sunk. "Okay, I'll send an ambulance out there. Lay him down, give him water, give him cool rags to put on his forehead."
"Okay."
The ambulance got there soon, obviously freaking Carats out. The staff apologized, but all the fans could think about was if everyone was okay. You were walking towards the entrance doors as everyone came in, and you walked with the stretcher.
"Jeonghan? Can you hear me?" He nodded weakly and reached for your hand, so you grabbed it as you looked at one of your nurses. "We're going to put him on a ventilator to get his oxygen levels up, we need to keep him cool."
You got him into a room as the boys waited outside. As you hooked Jeonghan up to a ventilator, you unbuttoned his shirt and gently shook both sides to get cool air to his torso. He was trying to find your hand for comfort, so you grabbed it again and kissed his forehead.
"You're gonna be okay." You assured him. "By the looks of it, you're overheating, but we're gonna run some tests."
Later that night, the boys were crammed into Jeonghan's room as their security guards blocked the doors off just in case. With your clip board, you went in and found a place to sit.
"After running tests, we found that his stress levels were way too high, and that's what made his breathing so erratic. Of course, the excitement and effort of the concert sent him into overheating," you paused. "but it's nothing that's going to keep him from his schedule."
"It could keep him from his schedule." Seungcheol said.
You tilted your head. "What do you mean?"
"You guys never really get any time together. I don't think Carats will mind giving him a week." Dokyeom added.
You stood up. "That's not up to me, it's really up to Jeonghan." The boys gave you a 'you're joking, right?' look, making you smile. "I'm not against the idea."
"Then it's settled!" Jun said. "But I'm not telling our manager."
You laughed as you walked to Jeonghan's bed. "He's ready to leave, so if you guys would like to be with him for a bit to hang out, please do."
Seungcheol shook his head. "No, you can go straight home."
When Jeonghan woke up, you gathered his things and got him ready to leave. As you were nearing the exit of the hospital, you heard a bunch of noise. You looked up and saw a huge crowd of people clapping.
"Jeonghan?"
He looked up as well and listened for a second. "They're calling your name, Chaerin." You both paused for another second. "They're saying thank you."
"Thank you? For what?"
He batted his eyelashes cutely. "For taking care of me."
You playfully pushed him as you looked back at the crowd, smiling. "They don't have to thank me, I'll be doing that for a while."
