Heeseung hated seeing you tired. He liked seeing you as your usual energetic self. So when you crawled into bed at nearly four in the morning after your fourteen hour shift, he knew you would be miserable when you woke up.
Child nurses had it hard, and the ones who really love their job had it even harder. Heeseung knew how much you loved your work and the kids that you worked with, so you cherished your fourteen hour shifts despite how grueling they were.
He rolled out of bed, careful not to shake it too much to keep from waking you. He loved seeing you sleep, and as if it were his morning ritual, he took a quick picture of you before going to the restroom to get ready for the day.
He tiptoed through the apartment to get coffee started, knowing how much you needed it every morning. He knew exactly how you liked it, having watched you make at least a thousand cups since the two of you had been dating. As he waited for the coffee to finish making, he tidied up the kitchen and quietly watched some television. He opened the windows to let some sunlight in and he prepared a little nook for you on the couch. You liked your couch corner with a small pillow to support your back and a bigger pillow to cuddle with. You had to have your favorite fuzzy blanket as well.
Finally, the coffee pot was full and as if in a trance, you came out of the bedroom groggily brushing your teeth.
"Hi, baby," you mumbled. "Did I wake you up last night?"
"I always know when you're finally in bed with me," Heeseung smiled and kissed your forehead. "Finish brushing your teeth and get comfy on the couch."
You hummed and disappeared into the bedroom again. Meanwhile, Heeseung got your coffee ready in your favorite mug and happily waited for you to sit on the couch. Once you had come back and settled in on the couch like Heeseung told you to, he brought your cup of coffee to you with a smile.
"Just how you like it."
You smiled, looking up at him. "Oh, I love you."
He kissed you and quickly sat next to you, using his own blanket because he knew how specific you were about your morning routine.
"How was work yesterday?" Heeseung asked, turning the tv down so you knew he was focused on you.
"So tiring," you sighed. "Three of my patients needed extensive breathing treatments at the same time, so I was running back and forth between their rooms for at least two hours. I got a new patient with severe asthma, so I was with her for a huge chunk of my shift. But as usual, they were all little sweethearts to me."
Heeseung smiled. "They really love you. You're everything to them, you know."
You nodded fondly. "Oh, one of them gifted me a necklace yesterday," you pulled a small necklace out from beneath your shirt and showed it to your boyfriend. "She told me she was giving her love to me."
"That is so precious, babe," Heeseung cooed. "You're such a hero."
You waved him off lovingly and kissed the side of his head. "What did you do yesterday?"
"I deep cleaned the apartment before I started my schedule for the day. We had a lot of filming to do yesterday, so I was so glad when we got off early," Heeseung told you. "But when it gets hard I always tell myself that your job is way more difficult."
"Your job is still incredibly hard, don't discredit yourself, Hee," you reassured him. "I could never do what you do. You're very good at it, too."
"Thank you, babe," Heeseung smiled, looking at you fondly for a few moments. "I missed you."
"I missed you more."
Heeseung shook his head. "There's no way."
"You know, a lot of my patients ask about you," you told Heeseung, watching how he lit up. "They ask about the pretty blonde guy who comes to have lunch with me every now and then. They never recognize you and I'm glad they don't. Some of them would probably need a breathing treatment if they recognized you."
Heeseung laughed at your joke as you took the first sip of your coffee. He knew you liked a cup of coffee when you sighed heavily after the first sip, and he felt accomplished when you let out one of the deepest sighs he had ever heard.
"Your job is chaotic as it is. I try to keep it peaceful when I go up there."
"And I appreciate that," you told him. "I wish we could be a little more public, but the time will come. It's just hard to have to hide so much whenever we want to go somewhere."
"I agree," Heeseung sighed. "But hopefully one day we'll be able to go public and still feel safe and secure."
"You being safe and secure is all I'm worried about, Hee."
He leaned in to kiss you again, tasting the coffee on your lips. "I make a pretty good cup of coffee, huh?"
You chuckled. "You do. Thank you, my love."
