Chapter 3
Manami's POV
We stood as a group on the ship facing the group of pirates. I asked Yoon if he knew how to help with my motion sickness. He grounded up some herbs and put them in water. Most of the time motion sickness medicine never helped me, but considering how different this place was. Maybe they knew about better medicine than people did in Fiore.
I did admit standing on the ship did make me a little dizzy, but it was 1,000 times better than how I usually felt. I couldn't wipe my stupid smile off my face. I hadn't felt this good on a ship in a while.
"I'm Yona. Are you the captain?" Yona asked the old lady standing in front of the group.
"I am...Captain Gigan." She said slowly with no expression on her face as she held her pipe.
"I heard from JaeHa. He said that you want to cooperate with us."
"Yes." The captain confirmed, she started walking up to ShinHa examining him.
"What's with the mask? Take it off." She ordered. When he didn't comply she just took it off her self, I stifled a giggle. I like this Grandma.
ShinHa covered his face and curled up in a ball.
"He's a very shy person!" Yoon yelled I let out a small giggle.
"The thing that matters most to me is trust. Who would ask for help from people who can't be trusted?" She explained. This only caused Hak to grin.
"But... We're strong Captain."
She looked at him before glancing at me and Yona. I looked her in the eyes and grinned at her.
--
"Captain this isn't fair. They're outnumbered no matter how you look at it." One of the pirates said with a grin.
"You're right this is too much," Hak repeated with a grin forming on his face.
"I'm enough to take them all down." Hak, Kija, and I said at the same time.
The pirates looked at all of us annoyed.
"Just try it!"
After less than one minute Hak, ShinHa, Kija, and I defeated all the pirates on the ships.
"What do you think of us now Grand-" Hak stepped on my foot, "Captain Gigan, want us now?" I grinned at her. My confidant grin quickly turned to a grimace. From all the movement I was really starting to feel the motion sickness. My face was slowly turning blue. I tried my best to control myself, not wanted to ruin our epic first impression.
"It's no use, Captain. Their strength is outside of the norm. It's like having three of me." JaeHa explained, he looked at me with a glint in his eyes. I looked around. Kija, 1. ShinHa, 2. Hak, 3.
"Wait a minute..." I muttered quietly to myself. I shot him a glare.
"I don't think Miss Manami would make a good pirate."
"Are you trying to pick a fight? Wanna go you freaking spinach head? The more I meet you the more you piss me off! I'm willing to help and I can sure as hell beat your-" I covered my mouth with a fist trying not to hurl. Damn this motion sickness.
"A pirate who has motion sickness doesn't work out well," JaeHa said with a grin, composed myself standing up straight and crossed my arms with a huff. Grandma tried not to laugh and
"But I-"
"You all pass." I sighed with relief and looked at Grandma with a bright smile.
"I'm relieved!" Yona said with a bright look on her face as she turned to Yoon and he nodded in agreement.
"It's too early to be relieved. What can you do?" She turned to the two who were standing on the side.
"I'm against violence so I won't fight, but I can do everything else. Cook, sew, hunt, treat injuries, make a bomb if I have the materials, and I'm beautiful." Yoon listed with a proud smile on his face as he finished. Grandma then turned to Yona expecting an answer. Yona's face fell, she couldn't think of anything.
"Nothing, then. People who can't do anything are just a nuisance." Grandma said as she took inhaled smoke from her pipe. Yona tried to protest but Grandma cut her off.
"There's a bunch of people in this town who hate Keumji, but standing against him without power is suicide. This is no task for a little girl! Go home." She explained harshly.
"If she is not with us, then we will not-" Kjia protested only to be cut off by Yona.
"Kija, it's okay. Captin Gigan has a point, but... I have my own reasons for not backing out!" Yona looked at Grandma straight in the eyes. The pure determination in her face was amazing. I smiled, This girl is powerful!
"Fine, then I have a task for you."
--
I sat down on the top of the cliff waiting anxiously for Yona to come back. I insisted that I go wait on the cliff, mostly to get off the boat. Grandma had a soft spot for me, I could tell, and let me do so.
Thanks to my enhanced hearing I was able to faintly hear what was happening on the edge of the cliff. I closed my eyes and concentrated as I listened intently to what was happening. I heard a wave crash and tensed up.
"Yona!" JaeHa yelled. I gasped, Did she fall? Is she okay?
I heard Yona's voice tell JaeHa she was fine. I sighed placing a hand on my chest calming my breathing. That sounded like a close one, I closed my eyes once again and concentrated on where Yona was.
"What are you doing?" A voice asked from behind me. I squeaked in surprise, to look up at Hak.
"What?" He asked confused by my surprised expression.
"Oh sorry, I was shocked by how ugly you are," I said with a straight face. A tick mark appeared on his forehead. Kija and Yoon stifled a laugh behind him.
"You little brat." He muttered to himself.
"Manami what are you doing though?" Yoon asked curiously.
"I'm trying to hear whats going on down there. I was busy concentrating till Hak scared the shit out of me." I stuck a tongue out at him. The group of pirates laughed at me.
"Good luck with that little girl, Yona is too far away for you to hear."
They all laughed at me like I was stupid. I blushed in embarrassment. Hak and the group began talking to Grandma, but I was determined to show the pirates that I was right.
"I'm not kidding!" I protested with a pout as I stood up.
"You'd need magic to be able to do something like that!" One of the pirates chirped from the back. I brushed my cape off my arm to show my guild mark and pointed.
"Why does nobody get this! I am a Wizard! I do have magic! I'm part of Fairy Tail!" I exploded throwing my hands up. The pirates went silent for a second and looked at each other.
Finally, people who understan-
They all burst out laughing.
"You really have a big imagination."
"Did you want to be a magician or something?"
I huffed and sat back on the floor and crossed my arms.
"I'm not kidding! I use Fire Dragon Slayer Magic! I could roast you all for dinner right now!" I yelled. The more I tried to convince them the harder they laughed, some collapsed to the ground from laughter and others were wiping tears from how hard they were laughing. My face flushed bright red.
"I mean it though..." I muttered to myself.
"Hey, kid how old are you?" One of the Pirates asked.
"I think I'm 14," I answered, his eyes widened.
"Guys, she's just a little girl! Let her have an imagination." He joked patting my head. I clenched my fist as Natsu ran through my head. He always patted my head like that.
"I'm a little girl that beat you guys up!" I said sticking out my tongue. He laughed awkwardly scratching the back of his neck.
"I'm Tatsu, what's your name?"
"I don't want to tell you!" I said looking away from him.
"What should we do to make you tell us?" He asked with a smile. I thought about it for a second.
"Believe me when I say I'm a wizard-- no actually-- Believe me when I'm telling the truth!" I exclaimed.
"If you show us you're 'magic' maybe we'll believe you." A pirate in the back yelled. I smiled facepalming.
"Of course, why didn't I think of that!" I exclaimed jumping up. The pirates cheering ready to see me make a fool of myself. Just you wait!
"Y-yona!!" Yoon yelled. I whipped my head to the side to see Yona and JaeHa walking up the cliff. I immediately ran over to Yona with the group. Yoon threw his arms around her with tears in his eyes.
"Stupid! Always being so reckless!" He scolded her. I sighed in relief seeing that she wasn't injured.
"Where is the Cheonsu plant?" Grandmas interrupted. Yona calmly pulled out a pouch and showed them to her. She took a drag from her pipe.
"All right then, just like we promised, you can-" Yona cut her off.
"No. I had help from JaeHa. A giant wave swallowed me and I was almost thrown into the sea, but he saved me. I couldn't have done it on my own." Yona explained guiltily. JaeHa looked shocked that she said this. He was obviously willing to keep that a secret from Grandma.
"So do you give up?" She asked.
"No. I'll get some again all by myself!" Yona said with determination and clenched fists. My eyes widened.
Wow, so cool!!
Grandma starting laughing amused by how willing Yona was to put herself through danger again.
"If JaeHa left a woman thrown into the sea to die, I would've thrown him into the sea myself," Grandma said through laughs, JaeHa smirked and crossed his arms with the nod of his head. He grabbed Yona's face and looked closely.
"Your eyes are red. You must have cried a ton." She grinned as she examined her face, Yona quickly denied the fact.
"Your hands are scratched up and legs are trembling. You've got guts. People like you won't betray a comrade even under pressure. I like those kinds of idiots. Hop on board." She motioned for a very confused Yona to follow. JaeHa placed his hand on her head.
"You passed, kid." He said with a smile, Yona's eyes teared up and all the pirates cheered. They all bombarded her with questions and shook her hand.
"Tsk."
No one did that for me when I passed...
--
I begged Yoon to take more medicine for my motion sickness because otherwise, I would die. He gave in and made me a large jug so I wouldn't run out. So I started helping the pirates pack the boat.
"Need help, Tatsu-san?" I offered the pirate I remembered. He smiled at me.
"No, I don't want to make a girl do all the hard work." He walked passed me patting my head like before. It felt just like my brother. I bit my lips as I thought of him.
"Well, too bad cause I want to help!" I said picking up the largest package I could find and started walking towards the boat.
"You're a feisty one aren't you?" He grinned walking with me.
"I don't like being useless," I muttered.
"I still don't know your name, but you know mine. It seems a little unfair." Tatsu mentioned.
"My name is Manami Dragneel."
"Interesting name."
"My brother gave it to me! He said that was the thing he thought of. 'A beautiful name for a beautiful baby' He told me. " I announced proudly.
"Brother? Are you sisters with one of the Dragons? Or maybe Yoon or Hak? You guys don't look similar."
"Ah..." My face fell.
Oni-chan...
"No, um. We got separated yesterday. I got lost, which is why I'm traveling with Yona right now. They might help me find what I'm looking for."
"Oh..." There was a brief awkward silence as Tatsu looked for a way to respond to me.
"But, it's fine! I'm sure I'll find him soon! And the group is really nice!" I smiled up at him.
That's right Manami, it'll all be fine...
"I hope you do. So why were you in Awa Port. JaeHa mentioned something about falling out of the sky." He said lightly with a laugh.
"I have no idea, its so weird! I'm from Magnolia, in Fiore, and when we were walking home I fell down and suddenly I was here in Awa Port, in the Kouka Kingdom. A place I've never heard about." I explained as we placed the supplies on the boat. Tatsu placed his hand on his chin thinking.
"You're right that is weird. You've never heard of Kouka and I've never heard of Fiore."
"Yeah, the money I use doesn't work here either!" I exclaimed as I started putting the pieces together.
"I'm in a different dimension! Oh my god! Thank you so much Tatsu-san. I can't believe I didn't figure this out. I guess saying it out loud makes it easier to understand." I grabbed his hand eagerly and bowed 90 degrees in thanks. I smiled brightly and quickly ran to explain what happened to... to...
No one...
I was alone. With nobody that I really knew. Nobody who could understand what was happening to me. Nobody who could provide me some sort of explanation.
I stopped walking away from Tatsu and stood still.
What am I going to do?
