Chapter One
A/N: I know a couple people requested another KOTLC fanfic, so I finally got around to writing one! This chapter might be short, but they'll probably be longer in the future. I'm also working on some original stories, so ease check those out if I end up posting them. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy!!
"You ready to go, Sophie?" Ms. Calder asked.
"Yeah. I think so." Sophie Foster looked at her social worker as the two of them loaded up her small amount of bags and other personal belongings into Ms. Calder's silver SUV.
Sophie looked at back at her most recent foster family, who'd cared for her like one of their own for the past few months, and tried not to cry. They'd been so supportive towards her, and she couldn't help but blink back tears.
As Ms. Calder lifted the last box into the truck, Sophie ran back to hug her family one last time.
"We'll miss you so much, Soybean." Her foster dad pulled her into a hug, her mom joining in.
"We know you'll love your adoptive family, and I promise we'll never forget you. We've talked to Ms. Calder already, and we've set it up so we can talk on the phone. Does that sound okay?" Her Mom asked.
Sophie sniffed. "That sounds great."
"Okay. It looks like you have to go, but remember that we love you." Her dad said.
"Okay." Sophie said. She turned away and headed back towards the car, opening the passenger side door and waving.
"Have a safe trip!" Her mom called as she shut the door.
Ms. Calder shut the trunk and hopped into the driver's seat. "And it looks like we're off." She said as she turned on the ignition and started to pull out of the driveway.
"I'm really gonna miss them." Sophie said.
"I know you are. It's always hard moving around like this, but I promise you'll love your new home and family. And if you think about it, you won't have to move again! That's something to look forward to, right?" Ms. Calder said.
"I guess so. What are their names again?" Sophie asked.
"Grady and Edaline Ruewen." Ms. Calder said.
"Oh. Okay. And where do they live again?" Sophie asked.
"Upstate Oregon. I don't remember the exact name of the town, but it's near Portland."
"So how long will the drive take?" Sophie asked.
"It's over a thousand miles from here. We have to take a plane, remember?" Ms. Calder said.
"Right. I forgot about that." Sophie took one of many deep breaths, trying to push away her newfound panic.
"Soph, don't hyperventilate on me now. I didn't mean to scare you. It's going to be absolutely fine, airplanes are actually pretty fun." Ms. Calder soothed.
Sophie nodded in response. "Okay. It'll be absolutely fine."
"There we go."
Sophie looked out the window at the passing cars. This would be a whole new adventure for her, but would she survive this time around?
