"Hana! Wake up!" Stina, Hana's mom said. Hana groaned then got out of bed and ate some porcaroot pie. It wasn't just first day jitters. Okay maybe it was. When she had taken the entrance exam to Foxfire Academy they'd said that she would be taking advanced classes. Like, with Level Threes. It was a big deal but she still wished she didn't have to go to school. Unlike all the other girls Hana didn't have any friends, was socially awkward and didn't understand why everyone hated her purple and orange charm bracelet.

"Who's ready for a new day?" Her dad Wylie said like every morning.

 Hana shrugged, then hugged her parents and used their Leapmaster 5000 to leap from Quietcreek to Foxfire. Hana arrived 15 minutes early so that she missed the morning rush. Also Foxfire was a huge building so her punctuality gave her time to find her class. Bonus. Her first class was The Universe and it was dark so Hana tripped. She sighed. Someday she would find out how someone as clumsy as her could perform complicated dance routines yet still trip over her own feet. Her mentor, Lady Lukia, was nice but Hana couldn't find an empty seat so she had to settle for sitting next to a pretty blonde girl with bright blue eyes.  

"Hi! I'm Jolie." The girl said."Hana." Hana said. "Are you a Level One?"Jolie looked surprised. "Of course, aren't you?" Hana explained the situation and Jolie understood. 

After getting kept late after class for a combination of not paying attention and excelling on the days worksheet, Hana walked to the cafeteria and ordered some of her favorite dishes. She saw Jolie at a table with some other people and thought about joining her but decided not to when she saw her glaring at Yuna. Hana didn't know many people at Foxfire but everyone knew Yuna. She was the most popular girl at school but she didn't seem to notice. Hana walked over to a table in the corner and started to eat. 

Even though she was surrounded by other students Hana had never felt more alone.
