"You are my sunshine." Sophitz
a_graceful_soul requested a Sophitz oneshot. As always, feel free to comment or PM me requests!
Starting (hopefully) in December, I'll be updating a new KotLC Matchmaking story! I want to write some more of it before I start updating, so I'll wait a little bit. I'll update that on Fridays and go back to updating oneshots only on Mondays. I'm going to try to make that story have some of all ships. I have a little information thingy up in the book where I explain a little bit more. Okay, now the oneshot! This one's a little sad but I still think it's cute.
"No."
It was a single word, barely audible, but it expressed so much. They hadn't had enough time together.
The Neverseen had attacked. The Black Swan defeated them, but not without casualties.
Fitz had been injured. No one had realized until it was too late. They called Elwin and Physic, but they wouldn't arrive in time.
Her friend. Her Cognate. She couldn't lose him.
Sophie stumbled forward to where his body lay on the ground. He seemed so small. The others hung back.
Biana had left earlier with Juline. No one knew how they would break the news to her.
Sophie reached Fitz. She knelt down beside him, and pulled him into her arms. His chest rose and feel faintly.
"No."
The word caught in her throat, transforming into a choked sob.
They sat for a moment, huddled together in silence.
"You are my sunshine."
Fitz began to sing softly. It was a human song, and Sophie was surprised he knew it. She tried to quiet him; it would only tire him more. But he continued.
"My only sunshine."
Sophie trembled as she held him. Her hair stuck to her face, plastered with sweat and blood. Streaks of tears ran down her cheeks.
"You make me happy."
The sun began to set over the horizon. It would have been exceptionally beautiful, if anyone had been paying attention to it. Instead, its beauty felt misplaced and wrong.
"When skies are gray."
The words were becoming more labored now, his voice softer.
"You'll never know, dear."
He coughed up blood, his hand pressing against his abdomen on his wound.
"How much I love you."
His voice faded away into nothingness.
A single tear fell down Sophie's face. As he lay silent and unmoving in her arms, she sang the last line.
"Please don't take my sunshine away."
