"Please, please, please just tell me who it is! Please?"
Sophie had made the mistake of mentioning offhand that she had a crush on someone, and Biana wouldn't let it go. Sophie didn't want if getting out that she like Fitz, plus how would Biana react once she found out her best friend liked her brother?
"Please?"
Sophie sighed dramatically. "Fine." She paused, working up the nerve to tell Biana. If she could barely tell her friend, how would she ever tell Fitz?
"I like," she said slowly, doing anything she could to put off telling Biana by even a fraction of a second.
"Fitz."
The word was barely audible, but Biana heard it clearly, jumping up and shrieking. "I knew it! He'll be so happy!"
"Wait, what?! Are you gonna tell him? Biana!"
"Relax. It'll be fine. Don't worry!"
The girls talked for a few more minutes, and then Sophie went home. Sharing her biggest secret with her friend seemed surprisingly anticlimactic, and Sophie went to sleep peacefully.
The next few days were uneventful, until Sophie went over to Everglen for dinner again.
She was greeted at the door by Keefe, which was a little strange. Where were the Vackers? Keefe seemed a little apprehensive and fidgety. When they reached the door to the house, Fitz was standing there, awkwardly leaning against the doorframe. "Hey."
"Um. Hi."
Keefe slipped away unnoticed, into the house. "Can I talk to you?" Fitz asked, leading her into the garden.
"Sure," Sophie said, anxious.
Fitz stopped under a beautiful flowered tree, though it was nothing like Calla's.
"So," he said.
"So," she repeated.
"Um, Biana told me about your...talk."
"Our talk?" Sophie's eyes widened as realization started to hit her.
"Yeah." Fitz twisted his fingers. "Um."
There was an awkward silence such made Sophie want to run and hide and never talk to anyone ever again.
"Um."
Sophie had never seen Fitz so nervous. He always seemed so smooth, his every move choreographed perfectly.
"Um. Is it true?"
"Is what true?"
"Do you like me too?"
"Too?"
He cringed. She had caught his mistake. She looked at him quizzically.
"Yeah. Too."
She grinned, nodding. Fitz grinned too.
And, though they couldn't quite hear it, in the distance a certain younger sister shrieked with happiness as her plan worked out perfectly. (A/N I know this is a little outlandish, but I couldn't help myself. :))
