Alden called Sophie into his office for a little chat, as he called it. He seemed very cheerful and in no rush, so Sophie wasn't nervous about it at all.

When she came into his office, he made small talk, asking her about her rings.

"Well, Dex gave me this one, and Fitz gave me these two."

Alden gave her one of those looks Edaline always have her around Keefe. "Really? Fitz gave you two rings?"

Sophie blushed. "Well, they're Cognate rings."

Alden frowned. "Cognate rings? I never had those."

Alden never had Cognate rings? Were they even real? Why did Fitz give them to her?

After their brief meeting, they ran into Fitz in the hallway. Alden made a remark about the rings, making Sophie want to roll into a ball. Fitz and Alden seemed to have a heated telepathic conversation, with Fitz giving him a look that said I'm gonna kill you, and Alden looking innocent, like any parent would have.

The moment passed, but not without leaving Sophie with a few questions to ask in their next telepathy session.
