I looked up at the clear blue sky, taking it in. Today was the day. I was going to tell him. Tell Fitz I liked him. No secrets. I was ready to become full cognates. I had asked to meet him at Atlantis, so we could hang out. I could do this. I adjusted the moonlark clip in my hair. I let out a shaky breath and started down the stairs to the Leapmaster before I could change my mind.
The light whisked me away and I was soon bouncing off the sponge. I flailed through the air and face planted. What a great start. I let out a moan. My right leg was burning like everblaze. A set of warm hands grabbed my shoulders and helped me to my feet. The scent of mint washed over me. Fitz. He smiled at me in his model-like way. "Are you okay Sophie?" He asked, his voice crisp.
I was about to speak as he remove his hands from my shoulders, but I stumbled and fell. I would have hit the floor if Fitz didn't slide his arms under mine and held me up. My right leg was pounding and looked like it was swelling up. "Yeah, I'm fine." I said calmly while looking at my leg.
"No you're not." He said. I blushed as he scooped me up, an arm under my knees, and one supporting my back. I regained my senses.
"Hey! What are you doing?" I exclaimed as he started walking down the street.
"Taking you to a doctor." He replied. He must have seen me start to open my mouth because he quickly added," and don't pull an Alden on me." No reason to worry. I couldn't see why he was exactly freaking out.
The crowd parted as they saw us. I looked down, mortified. The famous and prestigious Fitz Vacker carrying the unintentionally well known freak Sophie Foster, bridal style, through the streets of Atlantis. My face was red hot from my blush.
We stayed in silence for a while. "Look, I need to tell you something." I said.
"Are you going to admit that you got hurt?" He said. He looked serious as he looked down to my swollen and red leg.
"No! Can't I just tell you that I like you!?" I blurted. A few second later, my brain processed what I had just shouted. And every elf on the street had heard it, even worse from the fact that they were gathering around us. "I- I uh- I mean-" I stammered, but he cut me off.
He had leaned in next to my ear, his breath playing over my hair. "Me too." He whispered softly. All the elves in the crowd looked like they were trying to listen in.
I let out a small laugh. "I don't know why I waited so long."
