Human AU - Karaoke Night

Based off - If I Could Tell Her(Dear Evan Hansen)

Tam P.O.V

"Look! Look! There's Keefe, Dex, Fitz, Sophie, Wylie and Linh!" Biana said eagerly, as she dragged me over to them. We had been the last to arrive, as Biana had insisted on waiting until she got a perfect outfit on, even though she never needed anything special to make her look beautiful.

"You guys are here! Finally!" Dex said as he sprang up and kissed his girlfriend on the cheek.

Biana laughed playfully. "Tam couldn't figure out how to work his new car."

"Not true!" I said. "It's not my fault I couldn't figure out how to work the camera."

"My brother hates all that new-found technology stuff," Linh said teasingly, from the table, trying to sneakily hold hands with Wylie, even though that it was pretty obvious they were dating for they way they kept glancing at each other.

I sat down at an empty chair that just happened to be next to Biana's. She smiled at me when I sat down. "Thanks for taking me Tam!" she said. "I was lucky that you were there, when Dex said he couldn't make it."

I forced a grin. "Yeah. That was lucky."

Biana could tell something was a little bit off. "Something wrong?" she asked, confused.

Yeah, just the fact that I've liked you for about three years and then I was about to tell you but then Dex asked you out and so I've just been sitting here, crushing on one of my best friend's girlfriends. Yeah Biana, everything is just fine and dandy.

"Yeah. Just tired from the drive here."

"Oh. Well, you should rest then before we sing! No lazying off on Karaoke night!"

Suddenly, Keefe's voice filled the speakers as he took the stage, microphone in hand. "Is this thing on?" Keefe asked, even though the microphone was obviously on. I rolled my eyes, and leaned back, waiting for his performance. Sophie cheered him on from our table.

Keefe cleared his throat. "Oh cause I could treat you better..." he gestured towards Sophie. "Then he can," he used his head and gestured toward Fitz. We all laughed. The Keefe, Sophie, Fitz love triangle was an old joke now. We used it as a joke when we wanted to make our depressing love lives less depressing, except it didn't work in my case, as my case wasn't going to be getting any better.

Keefe finished his song and everyone clapped. I glanced over at Biana, who was clapping happily besides Dex, bouncing up and down on her toes with glee. The light hit her face, illuminating it like the sun did the moon. It made her shine like a goddess would, and rightfully so.

Linh caught me staring. She raised an eyebrow at me. Wylie gave her a curious look that plainly said 'Why are you being creepy?' Then, Linh's eyes brightened.

Oh no.

That meant she had an idea, and it wasn't going to be a good one. Her "good" ideas never seemed to turn out well in my favor.

"Me next! Me next! Me and Biana!" Linh said, jumping up from Wylie and rushing over to the stage, picking up a microphone and taking Keefe's right out of his hands. She leafed through the karaoke book of songs, looking for the one she wanted.

"Ok...?" Biana said, confused, but agreeing, as she walked up to the stage, and took the other microphone. "What's the song?"

"It's a surprise!" Linh said as she found the song she was looking for on the machine and clicked it. "Just follow the lyrics! I'll be blue, you be pink!"

"Okay!" Biana said, wiggling her shoulders, getting into the mood. I got nervous watching. What in the world was Linh going to do?

Linh cleared her throat and started to sing. My sister had a surprisingly good voice for not having sung in a long time. It was peaceful and calm, like spring water, and shone like crystals.

"He thought you were awesome."

My eyes widened. I knew this song. And I knew what she was doing. I had half a mind to get out of there right now, but the other part of me just really wanted to let her know.

And so stupidly, I stayed, and just closed my eyes firmly. I didn't want to see her face when this happened.

"He thought I was awesome? Your brother?" Biana's voice asked.

"Definitely!"

"How?"

"Well, he said you never knew how wonderful that smile could make someone feel. And he knew whenever you get bored, you scribble stars of the cuffs of your jeans, and he noticed, that you still fill out those quizzes that they put in those teen magazines." she sang.

Then, she cleared her throat and sang even louder:

"But he kept it all inside his head, what he saw he left unsaid, and though he wanted to, he couldn't talk to you, he couldn't find the wayyyyyyy."

Linh's voice reached a crescendo.

"But he KEPT IT ALL INSIDE HIS HEAD what she saw he left UNSAIIIIID, and though he wanted TOOOO, he couldn't talk to youuuuuuuuu. He couldn't find the WAYYYYY but he would always SAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY."

Biana started dancing to Linh's singing, twirling in her sparkly silver dress, and all of our friends did too. Keefe and Sophie were shimmying together and Fitz twirled his girlfriend (that we didn't really know), Dex snapped his fingers to the beat and wiggled and Wylie did some fancy footwork. Only I remained in my seat, eyes glued to the stage like a movie I couldn't keep my eyes off.

"But he kept it all inside his HEAD!!!! What he saw he left UNSAID, and though he wanted TOOOOOOO.... he couldn't talk to YOUUU, he couldn't find the way, but he would always SAYYYYYYY!!!"

"IF I COULD TELLL HERRR, TELL HER EVERYTHING I SEE..... IF I COULD TELLLLL HERRRRR, HOW SHE'S EVERYTHING TO ME!!!!!!!"

Everyone began singing to the lyrics on the board, and I whispered the words under my breath, careful so that nobody would hear me.

"but we're a million worlds apart. And I don't know how I would even start, If I could tell her, If I could tell her..."

The song continued. I watched them intently on the stage, and Linh was staring right back at me. I was whispering the words under my breath as everyone else belted them, like they were just some random words, that didn't mean anything, like they weren't the very thoughts that I agonized over every night and day.

The song ended. Biana and Linh put down the mics and bowed to numerous applause. Linh passed me on the way she was walking back to her chair. Her look was plaintive. 'Go tell her.'

I closed my eyes. I told myself I would do it, that I would finally say something. Then, I opened my eyes again.

I saw Dex and Biana laughing together, and Biana put her head on his shoulder.

Nothing had changed. She hadn't understood.

And so, I closed myself up again, just like the person in the song did.

And I kept it all inside my head.

OMG I'M THE WORST THIS WAS SO BAD AND SO LATE I'M GOING TO GET ELIMINATED. SORRY SORRY SORRY! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS WAS SO LATE AND SO BAD! I hope you at least enjoyed it though.
