Six months ago, Avatar Korra and Guardian Violet defeated Amon and the Equalists. Since then the council was disbanded and the United Republic elected its first president. Tenzin's brother, Commander Bumi, retired and moved to Air Temple Island. And Korra and her boyfriend Mako have been the talk of the town. Peace has come to Republic City, but unbeknownst to the sisters, danger now threatens the Southern Water Tribe.

"Iiiiit's pro-bending night in Republic City, and have we got a doozy for you! Fan favorites, the Fire Ferrets, are about to take on hot newcomers, the Rhino Lions!"

A stern-looking Bolin stands with his hands on his hips. Pabu is perched atop the railing separating the player's locker room from the playing field.

"Now we all know that our last match was garbage. Terrible!" Bolin gestures with his right hand to Pabu "Even Pabu could've done a better job" Pabu walks up to Bolin and puts his paws on his master's side while squeaking.

Bolin takes on a more confident and proud posture; in a more cheerful tone "But that's in the past," he confidently leans forward in a somewhat defensive pose "because when you back a Fire Ferret in the corner, well mister," He throws a strong downward punch "he comes out fighting!"

Bolin confidently raises his fist before his body, while Pabu hisses, arching his back. Bolin confidently points toward the arena "So, let's get out there" he raises his fist above his head "and bend like there's no tomorrow. Are ya with me?"

Violet and a male fire bender stand in front of him.

"Uh" Violet looks nervous "sure"

"Whatever" the Fire bender replies

"You could be a bit more enthusiastic you know" Violet looks at him annoyed

"So says the girl who has a nervous breakdown almost every match" the Fire bender rolls his eyes "aren't you supposed to be the Switch or something"

"Guardian" Violet growls

"Ok ok stop it you two" Bolin intervenes "this is why we're losing" he turns and mutters "other then the fact this man can't bend to save his life"

"Let's just get this over with" the firebender walks past them

"Bolin why do we even bother with this guy anymore?" Violet asks him

"Cause we can't get anyone else to join" Bolin whines "hey at least we're here"

"Let's do this" Violet sighs

The Fire Ferrets and the Rhino Lions lined up before each other. As the bell to announce the start of the match rings, both teams ready their respective element. As a loud crash is heard, first Bolin, followed by his two teammates, are knocked into view and over the rim into the water, each being hit by their respective element. The buzzer sounds, signaling a zone-line has been crossed.

"Ooh, the Fire Ferrets go down in the water, and right into the record books for the fastest knockout in Pro-bending history!"

Bolin puts his head down, sighing in disappointment "Where's Mako when I need him?"

"Those damn-"

"Violet language!" Bolin looks at her surprised

"Sorry" Violet laughs nervously

"Come on" Bolin gets out of the water and holds his hand out to her "let's at least win the next one"

Violet takes his hand and Bolin pulls her out of the water.

"Oh forget it" the Fire bender climbs out of the water "this is a lost cause, I'm out of here"

"Hey!" Violet shouts at him "you can't just leave!"

"Oh yeah, watch me" the fire bender replies angrily "if you were your sister this match would've been over and done with, victory and all"

"Ugh!" Violet bends water from the pool into the firebender, knocking him back into it

"Violet no" Bolin grabs her and pulls her back

"You idiot!" Violet shouts then mutters "how could you leave"

"Vi come on, let's go" Bolin says "even though he's a pain.. it's not him you're actually mad at"

Violet sighs before looking down "I know"

Bolin and Violet carry their bags to a ship bound for the South Pole at night. Mako, Korra, and Naga are sitting on deck.

"So I walk up and say: Looks like you had some car trouble. Good thing the police are here" they hear Mako say

Korra closes her eyes while chuckling before looking sideways at Mako with an eyebrow raised and a smile; amused "Did you write that beforehand?"

"Yeah! I had a few others" Mako pulls out a list from his jacket and begins reading off of them "Let's see, uh.. Looks like you guys should put more 'try' in triad, huh? Or, when you get to jail" he points to himself "tell 'em Mako sent ya"

"Ooh, I like that one" Korra says

Mako tucks the piece of paper back into his jacket "Okay, I'll use that next time. Beifong says if I keep it up, I could make detective soon."

"That sounds so fun. All I do is train all day. It's like Tenzin's totally forgotten how I beat Amon." Korra tells him annoyed

"Tenzin's just trying to help you become the best Avatar you can be" Mako says

Korra pulls her arm away from Mako "Of course you'd take his side!"

"Uh oh trouble in paradise" Bolin whispers to Violet who hid a laugh

"I'm not taking his side" Mako says "I'm just"

Korra stands up "I'm gonna take a walk" she leaves

"Why is it so much easier to bust triads than it is to get through one conversation with my girlfriend?" Mako sighs

Mako suddently gets knocked over and he starts getting licked everywhere. With the sound of squeaking he knew exactly what and who it was.

"Ok ok it's good to see you too" Mako laughs "get off me Echo"

The little dragon squeaks and happily sits next to him while wagging his tail.

"You're getting big" Mako pats his head

"Yo" Bolin says walking up to him

"Sup bro" Mako greets

"Hi Mako" Violet waves

"Hey" Mako smiles "Echo's getting a bit big to take everywhere huh?"

Echo was about up to Violet's knees.

"But he's so cute" Violet bends down and hugs her dragon "I can't leave him home"

Mako chuckles "same old Violet, it's been awhile, you look great"

"I guess so" Violet stands up

"So where'd my sister run off to?" Violet asks

"Uh well" Mako sighs "I don't know"

"I'll go find her" Violet walks off with Echo following behind.

Violet walks around the ship until she sees Korra.

"Sisssssyyyy" Violet runs over and hugs her "I gotcha!"

"Violet!" Korra turns around and hugs her "I haven't seen you around lately, how's pro bending?"

"Eh" Violet shrugs "it's a nice break... so how's Tenzin? Is he still upset I ditched?"

"Nah, he was at first but thought perhaps it was better for you" Korra replies "You know cause you're you, you figure things out on your own, you've got a good head on your shoulders"

"Thanks sis" Violet smiles

At the South Pole, the airbending children excitedly greet Katara and Kya, who are awaiting them on the dock. Violet and Korra hug Tonraq while Mako stands behind them and Senna stands to the side.

"Daddy I've missed you" Violet says

"Me too pumpkin" Tonraq rubs her head as Korra chuckles at her sister's childish behavior

"You remember Mako" Korra gestures to him

Mako offers his hand to Tonraq "Sir"

Tonraq crosses arms; sternly "I hope you're not getting my daughter into anymore trouble up in the city"

"Uh... No... uh.. I... no" Mako stutters

"Knock it off, Dad" Korra laughs

Tonraq laughs and shakes Mako's hand. Bolin walks up.

"Wow! Look at all these people that came out to greet us" Bolin says

"Yeah no" Volet points behind him to the docks "They came to greet them"

A large and ornate Water Tribe ship approaches across the water. It was a royal Northern Water Tribe ship docking on the other side of the pier. The crowd claps and cheers.

"The great chief of the Northern Water Tribe comes to grace us with his presence. Hooray" Tonroq says sarcastically

Sennaputs an assuring hand on his arm "Just relax" Tonraq looks down at his wife "Tonraq, he'll be gone soon enough"

Tonraq sighs while growling. Mako and Bolin turn to him. A small arctic hen perched atop the flag pole is attached to the ship, the flag waving gently in the breeze. Unalaq and his children, Desna and Eska, depart the ship walking down the plank to the pier, accompanied by guards.

"Whoa! Who are the lovely ladies?" Bolin asks

Korra glances at Bolin with an amused smile"That's Eska and Desna, the chief's children"

"Ah" Bolin stares at them

"Desna is a guy" Violet adds

Bolin's eyes widen in surprise; chuckling "Oh, no, sure, I knew that "Uhhh.." he drops his smile and looks at the twins "and which one is Desna?"

Unalaq and his group approaches Korra's group. Tenzin and his family stand in the background.

Unalaq bows toward Korra "Good to see you again, Avatar Korra"

Korra bows toward Unalaq "Good to see you too."

"Tonraq" Unalaq greets coldly

"Brother" Tonraq greets just as coldly

Mako and Bolin worriedly look at each other, surprised with the tone the two brothers use to address each other. Mako and Bolin turn their eyes back to the two.

"Rude of you to only address the Avatar and not the Guardian as well" Tonraq says annoyedly

"Forgive me" Unalaq glances at Violet "I did not notice the Switch"

"It's no problem really" Violet shifted under his gaze looking nervous

Mako glares at him and mutters to Bolin "I don't like him"

The group walks throughout the festival watching the people enjoy it.

"It's a shame the Southerners have abandoned all connections to the spirits" Unalaq says "Even during the most hallowed times"

Korra looks around with a smile "I've always loved the Glacier Spirits Festival. It's fun, me and Violet use to play all sorts of games"

Violet nods happily in agreement.

"This festival used to be a solemn time of fasting" Unalaq turns to the right "and meditation. Now it's just a chance to watch some rube try to stick an entire arctic hen in his mouth"

The group stops and looks to the left, where Bolin was, who has stuffed a whole arctic hen inside his mouth and is attempting to swallow it. Upon hearing them, he widens his eyes, turns to face the group and shrugs.

"What? Oh, it's so good" Bolin closes his eyes and clenches his fists in delight.

Korra closes her eyes and slightly shakes her head in amusement.

"Traditions change. It's not the end of the world" Tonraq says

"Tell that to the sailors who are being attacked by angry spirits in southern waters" Unalaq frowns "Some traditions have purpose"

"Wait," Korra looks surprised "spirits are attacking ships?"

"I thought the spirits resided in the spirit world" Violet looks at Tenzin

"I'm surprised the Avatar doesn't know about that. Apparently you haven't been given all of the information you need. It would be my honor to instruct you in the spiritual ways of the Water Tribe" Unalaq offers

"I wouldn't mind learning about fighting spirits" Korra glances at Tenzin "Airbending is getting pretty boring"

"Ten-"

"Hold on" Violet cuts off Tonraq leaving him surprised "Tenzin is very spiritual and we appreciate the offer but he is Korra's instructor, she and I will continue learning from him. Their is no need for you to trouble yourself."

Tonraq nods proudly "Well said"

"I see" Unalaq says unconvinced before turning and leaves.

In an enormous hall made out of ice in a large feast is going on. Korra, Violet, their parents, Unalaq, and his children are sat at the head table.

"This is a wonderful feast in your honor, Uncle" Korra speaks

"This is nothing. When this festival was founded, the tribal elders would commune with the spirits. People would watch the brilliant displays of light as spirits danced in the sky" Unalaq says

"Wow, I've never seen that" Korra sighs

"And that is a shame, since the Avatar is the bridge between the material world and the spirits. That is why I want so badly to teach you. To help you fulfill your destiny" Unalaq tells her

"I thought Violet had made it clear that Tenzin is teaching her" Tonraq says

"Every Avatar before you traveled the world to learn. It was Tenzin and your father who kept you secluded at the South Pole with your little sister" Unalaq looks at Korra "The Switch and the Avatar has never trained together before, they're 2 different beings"

"I thought Aang ordered the White Lotus to keep me down here?" Korra looks confused

"We all did what we thought was best for you" Tonraq explains

Korra crosses her arms "Who I train with should be my decision, Dad, not yours, not Tenzin's, and deffinently not Violet's"

"Hm" Violet looks up from her food confused, she wasn't paying attention

At the head table, Unalaq stand up in order to give a speech.

"As your chief, it is my honor to speak at this festival, which was founded to bring our tribes together and restore the ancient balance between our world and that of the spirits. But I am saddened to see what it has become: a cheap carnival that celebrates greedy and trivial humans. I feel the time is fast approaching when the North can no longer stand idly by while our Southern brothers slip into total spiritual decay. Angry spirits are already attacking ships in your waters. I only hope we are not too late to change course."

He sits down, and Varrick stands up to give a speech of his own.

"Chief Unalaq everybody, always great to have him in town. Now, let's have some fun with Wacky Wushu's Dancing Otter penguins!"

A man dressed in purple dances onto the stage, and bends a stream of water onto the platform. Three otter penguins slide along the water, before sliding back, stopping in front of Wushu. All four of them take a bow.

Later that night Violet sat on a cliff overlooking the festival, the bright lights and sounds of laughter traveled all the way up there. Violet smiled at the sight.

"I wish it was still like back then" Violet closed her eyes and thought back to when her and Korra were kids, running through the festival "I suppose we're too old for that now"

As the lights turned off down below Violet begun to head back down, everyone would be heading to bed around then. She felt a strange presence and turned around. In the distance she sees a dark entity speeding toward her.

"What in the world is that?!" Violet freaks out

The spirit quickly makes its way towards Violet and attacks her. The spirit pins her against a wall and begins to lean in closely, she shouts and looks away.

"Violet!"

The spirit shrieks as its hit with fire. Violet opens her eyes to see Mako blasting fire at it repeatedly. Bolin and Korra running close behind him.

"I got it!" Bolinearthbends at the spirit, it jumps out of the way "Don't got it!"

The spirit slams into the two brothers, knocking them down the hill. Tonraq and Tenzin rush to their aid, helping them up.

Korra begins to attack at the entity with firebending, but the spirit is too fast and her attacks fail to hit. The spirit tries for a direct attack, but Violet manages to jump out of the way in time.

"Leave my sister alone!" Korra runs to Violet and stand in front of her

Tonraq comes in riding in on a mass of ice "Korra! Violet!"

Tonraq uses his bending to encase the spirit in ice. The spirit appears to have been contained, but several tendrils break through the top of the ice, grabbing both Tonraq and Korra, and throwing them into one of the huts and the ground respectively. The tendrils recede, and the ice explodes as the spirit breaks out completely.

"Spirit, why are you angry with us? What have we done to offend you?" Tenzin's attempts to converse with the spirit have no success, and he is batted away by the entity

The spirit picks up Violet by her leg, holding her above the ground upside down, she screams. After Korra recovers, she enters the Avatar State, catching the attention of the spirit. She shoots a number of fire blasts at the spirit from atop her air spout, but her attacks seem to have no effect, and the spirit grabs her with one of its tendrils, slamming her into a nearby stack of boxes.

"Korra!" Violet shouts before trying to blast the spirit with no effect.

The spirit stares at Violet, she stares back at it in fear. Suddenly a stream of water controlled by Unalaq starts to encircle it, and the spirit starts to waver. As Unalaq continues to bend the water so that it encircles the entity entirely, the water starts to glow, and the spirit changes color. The Spirit drops Violet into the snow head first. As the water falls to the ground, the spirit begins to walk away, before disappearing.

Violet rubs her head in pain as Tenzin and Tonraq run over.

"Violet!" Tonraq shouts

"Are you all right?" Tenzin asks

"Yeah, my head just hurts" Violet says

"Let's get you inside, don't walk, you might have a concussion" Tonraq picks her up

"What was with that spirit?" Violet stares off where it dissapeared "Why'd it attack me?"

"How are you able to control that spirit when no one else could?" Korra asks her uncle

"As your father could tell you, I have spent my life studying the spirits and learning their ways. All of this knowledge is lost in the South, but I could teach you everything I know." Unalaq replies

"Chief Unalaq, clearly you are very knowledgeable, but Korra still has much to learn about airbending. And I hope that going to the air temples will help her connect with the past Avatars" Tenzin tells him

"The air temples will teach her nothing. Only I can give her the training she needs to be a complete Avatar" Unalaq replies bluntly

"I've told you that will not happen!" Tonraq shouts

"Hey! I'm right here! Anyone want to ask me what I think?" Korra intervenes

"Korra, please listen" Tenzin tries to reason

"I'm tired of listening to you. Both of you" Korra says "You keep me locked up, telling me you know what's best. But both of you were powerless against the spirit attack, something really bad could've happened to Vi" she Pauses before continuing "I think it's time I had a new teacher"

Tonraq looks at her"Now Korra—"

"Unalaq has proven he's the only one who knows what I need to learn. I have to go with him" Korra argues

"But Korra" Violet says weakly

"I know you're angry, but we've come so far together" Tenzin tells her

"I'm sorry, Tenzin. This is as far as we go." Korra crosses her arms

Tenzin appears hurt, but he remains respectful "It has been a pleasure serving you, Avatar Korra" Tenzin walks away.

"Let's go, we need to get Violet to Katara" Korra tells her dad "we need to make sure she's ok"

"...right" Tonraq looks disappointed

Violet stares out the window of the medical room with bandages around her head, watching as Tenzin's family leaves on Oogi.

Violet sighs and lays her head on the edge, Echo squeaks from beside her bed. Echo presses his head against her hand and she pets his head.

"I know Echo" Violet says looking down at him before once again watching the sky bison get further away "I'm gonna miss him too"
