In a void where no one could be heard, two people were seen looking confused as to where they were. A young teen, no more than 18, with dark blue hair, was seen looking confused, while the other appeared to be 20 years old and was looking himself over, realizing that their clothes had, in fact, changed into something completely different.

The person on the left was Jacky Carnell, and the fine gentleman on the right was Zeke Ferguson. Both Jacky and Zeke looked around, wondering where they were until the sound of clapping could be heard and both turned to see a blue-haired woman sitting in a chair eating chips.

Jacky: Okay who are you?

Aqua: Hello, Jacky Carnell and Zeke Ferguson welcome to the afterlife.

Jacky looks at Aqua in shock while Zeke was just silent.

Jacky: I am dead!

Zeke: It happens to everyone eventually, why are you surprised?

Jacky turns to Zeke looking at him and frowns.

Jacky: I know that but I thought I would be near the gates of heaven! Why am I dressed up and ready to go somewhere?

Zeke: If I had to hazard a guess, we had an extra life. Or rather, we're about to start a new life somewhere else. Reincarnation is very much a theory about life after death.

Aqua: Correct you are. Now that you know what is going to happen then allow me to explain the reason why you two were chosen. You see a demon lord has been causing trouble in the world Axel. Though you may be wondering why choose you well due to Axel's population most don't reincarnate back to stop the Demon Lord and just go to heaven. Also, another reason it seems the trend for the Japanese for Isekai has been saturated and most who are given this offer decided to go to heaven so we had to branch out to other countries willing to reincarnate.

Jacky and Zeke look at each other and then at Aqua.

Jacky: Did you choose us because we were avid fans of fantasy and adventure?

Zeke: My favorite video game series was Dark Souls, I beat the entire trilogy a couple dozen times.

Jacky: Do that is hardcore I'm barely able to make it to the halfway point before rage quitting. I mean god damn trying to memorize the boss's pattern while also making sure to make it to the save point without dying is a nightmare! I give props man I am an avid fan of the Zelda series, anything fantasy, and a fan of DnD.

Aqua then snaps her fingers and the two look at her.

Aqua: Okay, yes I chose you two because of your love for those types of series. Now if you know about the whole picking your character part then you know you get a power or item to bring into the world you are going to so take your pick. Heck, I can even give you anything from a video game if you want.

When Aqua said that Jacky was great and looked over to the goddess.

Jacky: Can I get a bow that can't be destroyed and that only those who I see as friends be able to use?

Aqua: Oddly specific but okay.

Aqua then gives Jacky a bow and he smiles which Aqua then turns to Zeke.

Aqua: Now what do you want?

Zeke: A skill, the ability to parry my enemies attacks.

Aqua just looks at him and nods and snaps her finger and a white glow appears on Zeke which then dies down.

Aqua: Done now off you-

Before Aqua could say anything a holy light appeared and an angel appeared.

Aqua: An angel?

Angel: Lady Aqua it seems the other gods have been checking your reports on people you send to Axel and it seems you have been not doing your job properly. On the Council's Orders, you have been chosen to go to Axel with these two.

When the Angel said that, Aqua's eyes widen in shock and horror.

Aqua: WAIT! PLEASE GIVE ME ANOTHER CHANCE. I WILL TAKE MY JOB SERIOUSLY DON'T SEND ME TO AXEL TO FIGHT THE DEMON LORD!

Aqua begs not to be sent away and Jacky turns to Zeke.

Jacky: Is she begging for her life indicating the world is a nightmare or she is just acting out like a child?

Zeke: Does it really matter? You are aware this world is most likely filled with demons and other monsters. You do realize our new lives are like the fantasy series we enjoy so much? Minus the extra lives of course.

Jacky only nods and looks at Aqua.

Jacky: Sorry for asking. I was just curious.

Three lights are seen and both Zeke and Jacky are lifted into the air followed by Aqua.

Aqua: Please don't send me to the other world. I am only a healer, not a fighter!

Angel: Don't worry, Aqua, once the Demon Lord is defeated, you may return back to heaven, and you two, once the Demon Lord is defeated I will grant you any wish your hearts desire.

Jacky: Wow, that is quite generous.

Zeke: You do realize doing that requires fighting an entire army of demons and their king, who most likely has strength and magical capabilities beyond our comprehension. In other words the final boss of any fantasy RPG, on hard mode.

Jacky looks at Zeke and smiles at him.

Jacky: True but hey being positive about it sounds like a way to look on the bright side of things.

Zeke: Well, I hope that positivity can be weaponized, because you asked for a bow, but failed to ask for a quiver of arrows to go with it......

Jacky's eyes popped out, realizing that fact.

Jacky: Oh crap...

The three then go to the light and leave the void area.

Axel

After coming through the light, Zeke, Jacky, and Aqua were seen in a large city.

This was Axel, a city in the Kingdom of Belzerg Zeke and Jacky both looked amazed by the city as it was similar to the games they played back in their world. While they looked around, Aqua was seen looking depressed.

Aqua: How could I be in the world of man? Why do this to me?!

Zeke: You can contemplate your predicament later. You said you can heal, correct? Do you have equipment for that, a magic staff perhaps?

Aqua twiddles her fingers and shakes her head no.

Zeke: Do you at least have some of the currency of this world? That way, we could buy you a staff and get Jacky some arrows.

Aqua nods her head and pulls out her coin pouch, which was full of coins.

Aqua: I think I have enough Eris to buy what we need.

Jacky: Eris? Question: is the currency similar to dollars or yen? You said Japanese people got reincarnated here a while ago.

Aqua: Yes, the currency is similar to yen.

Zeke then understood and Aqua then took them around the city to grab what they needed.

Zeke: Good, now considering I have an empty sword scabbard on my right hip, I must be a warrior. A sword should work well.

The three continued to walk and found a weapon store where Aqua and Jacky buy what they need. Though when they purchased them Aqua panicked in fear.

Aqua: I spent all my money! You made me lose it all!

Jacky: Calm yourself! I didn't know it would cost over a hundred bucks worth of Eris!

Zeke: Well you have a quiver of thirty arrows and Aqua has a Scepter. However, it appears I will be going weaponless for the time being. We will just have to earn money to rectify this issue.

Jacky: Dude, sorry man. I knew I should have thought this through. Look man whatever money we pool together the first thing we are doing is getting you a sword since you got no weapon.

Aqua: What! I am the victim here! You made me spend all my money!

Jacky just glares at Aqua who just shuts up and nods. Zeke however was looking at a crate of damaged and broken weapons. Zeke then turned the owner of the weapon store.

Zeke: Excuse me sir, what will you be doing with these broken weapons?

Store Owner: Mostly disposing of them or scrap the metal to make new weapons.

Zeke then reaches into the bin before pulling out a sword, half of its blade was broken off, but for the most part, it was in decent condition.

Zeke: This should suffice, do you mind if I take this sword off your hands?

Both Aqua and Jacky look at Zeke confused as to why he would use a broken sword.

Aqua: You are going to use a broken sword? Are you crazy!

Jacky: Are you sure that is a good idea?

Zeke: Sometimes the best way to learn is to be put at a disadvantage. What good is a sword if I can't properly combat my enemies? The way I see it, if I can learn to dispatch foes with this, then what would I be able to do with a proper weapon?

Aqua looks at him if he is crazy and sighs.

Aqua: Fine do whatever you want if you die I am going to be angry!

Zeke: Don't worry, I don't intend on dying this soon into my new life. Sir, would it be alright if I took this broken weapon off your hands?

Store Owner: Your funeral kid.

Zeke: Well then, if I walk through your doors again, I'll make sure to tell you how it went.

Zeke then sheathed the broken sword into his empty scabbard before turning towards the other two.

Zeke: We should find some form of work to make money. I imagine housing is not free in this town.

Aqua nodded and sighs as this is going to be a long day.

Adventurer Guild

After walking through the city the three stand outside a large building.

Aqua: This is the Adventurer Guild.

Zeke: So we're taking on quests? Straight forward enough, considering we're all new to this, we should probably find something easy.

Jacky: I am with you on that. Doing lower-class quests will help us start out.

The three then headed into the guild once there they saw a lot of faces in there plus the usual stuff you find in a fantasy RPG.

Jacky: Dude, this feels nostalgic even though I played a lot of video games involving fantasy. It feels homey.

The three kept walking and both were near the reception desk and waiting and as they did a woman with blonde hair came to them.

This young woman was Luna, a well-known figure in the Adventurer Guild.

Luna: Hello, welcome to the Adventurer's Guild. I am Luna the receptionist here so are you here to register or just to drink?

Zeke: Register, we are new to this town and wish to get a start as adventurers.

Luna smiles and understands before speaking again.

Luna: Okay, now we just need a registration fee since you are joining our guild. Don't worry it's not that expensive.

Jacky sighs hearing that and looks over to Aqua.

Jacky: You wouldn't happen to have more money that wasn't in your coin pouch?

Aqua then thinks about it before sighing.

Aqua: I do...

Zeke: Then we'll have to take two or three quests to make back what we've spent.

Aqua then snaps her finger while also having tears in her eyes as she had to use more of her money. Aqua then gives it to Luna before happily taking it.

Zeke: If it makes you feel better, I will give you half of my cut of our earnings this first time, Aqua.

Jacky: I am only paying you back for the Quiver and arrows.

Aqua looked at them in shock and cheered up a bit.

Luna: Great, now you three just need to be given your registration cards. Now since your three are new the cards help gather information on how many monsters you killed and as you level up you earn points to use on a skill tree.

Zeke's and Jacky's thoughts: So basic RPG logic.

Both said in their minds which Luna then pulls out a crystal orb.

Luna: Now you three, please hold your hands over this crystal orb.

Jacky then turns to Zeke and offers him to go first.

Jacky: You first dude.

Zeke: Very well, now then let's see what exactly we are working with.

Zeke then placed his hand over the crystal and the crystal started writing on the registration card. After a few minutes Luna takes it away and then starts to explain more about the card.

Luna: Now with this, you will each learn your current status, so please choose your desired occupation based on your stats.

Luna then reads Zeke's card and is surprised by his stats.

Luna: My word your stats are much higher than some of the adventures here. You must train a lot.

Zeke: Mostly morning jogs and light weight lifting, helps clear my head before class.

Jacky: Okay, that explains a lot well. Shoot for me. I only do the basics so I am not counting on myself being amazing.

Jacky then placed his hand on the crystal and his registration card was filled out. Luna then takes it and just smiles.

Luna: Well it is average but you seem better off then some of the new adventures who come in.

Jacky: I am glad you are trying to be kind Luna but just be honest please.

Luna looks at Jacky and nods and speaks again.

Luna: I am being honest Jacky I am not trying to be mean. Anyway, now you're up ma'am.

Aqua then places her hand on it and once it was finished Luna read it and was shocked.

Luna: My word your skills are incredible. You are in the mage class which requires a lot of intelligence the question now is what class to put you in.

When Luna said that everyone in the guild heard and stared at her.

Luna: All jobs are available, you can be anything you want. Crusader, sword master, arch priest-

Aqua: Arch Priest as I am really good with healing.

When she said that the adventures all cheered hearing that and started giving compliments. Making Aqua smile and smirk and Jacky just rolled his eyes as she was getting a big head.

Adventurer: I bet this girl will beat the Demon Lord.

Jacky: I hope she doesn't get too full of herself.

Jacky then asks Luna a question.

Jacky: Sorry, to interrupt this celebration but you never told us what jobs are available to us.

Luna: My bad well so far for you Jacky your stats are close to the Rogue-Like jobs. So you can be an Archer, Thief, Assassin, or Ranger. Now for you Zeke your stats are close to the Fighter jobs so you can be either a Warrior, Rune Knight, Knight, Crusader, Swordmaster, or Berserker.

Zeke and Jacky then think about what job they wanted and Jacky was the first to pick.

Jacky: I have a bow, quiver, and arrows so it is pretty obvious I am being an archer.

Luna nodded and Jacky was registered as an Archer. Zeke was looking at his options and then looked at the receptionist.

Zeke: Rune Knight, that should balance out my equipment issues.

Luna: Well this is a surprising two adventurers with high-class jobs. I wish the best for you three.

Aqua: Okay, you two time to take some quests!

Grasslands

After getting their Jobs from the Adventurer Guild, they were seen in the grassland where a bunch of giant toads were seen trying to eat some goats.

There were three of them minding their own business and Jacky turned to Zeke.

Jacky: So what's the plan, Zeke?

Zeke: We know nothing about these creatures, not exactly easy to formulate a plan when we have no knowledge of our opponents whatsoever.

Jacky sighs but nods then Aqua just sighs as well.

Aqua: Well I can manipulate water but since I got here my powers have sort of been affected a bit.

Zeke: A poor strategy against these particular enemies.....

Aqua gets annoyed as Zeke shoots her idea down despite saying earlier they had no knowledge of the toads.

Aqua: Oh come on there are just stupid toads!

Zeke: Yes and do you know how toads operate Aqua?

Aqua became silent before thinking for a bit.

Zeke: Toads drink water through their skin, why else do you think it is common for toads to sit in pools of water? While not as dependent on water as frogs, it is still incredibly vital to their survival.

Jacky: So basically Aqua trying to use her water to attack those toads will be just giving them refreshments.

Aqua then glares at Jacky and places her finger on his chest.

Aqua: Shut it Archer at least I have a high-class job!

Jacky: Wow, pulling rank typical for a person who gets mad at something that is factual. Look here I may not have the best class but I am thinking with my head something you should do. Aren't you supposed to be some divine goddess who knows Axel like the back of her hand?

Zeke: While you two argue like children, I'm actually going to attempt to get some work done around here. Feel free to join if either of you can stop nursing your fragile egos.......

Zeke then drew his broken sword with his left hand before slowly walking towards the closest toad and standing in front of it. Zeke noticed it didn't seem to notice him, so he took two more steps forward, broken sword still at the ready. Zeke then swiftly swung his broken sword, slicing into the giant toad's front right leg. The toad did not react at all as it continued to stay still while it swallowed its food.

Zeke: How peculiar......perhaps my weapon is weak enough it does not trigger a hostile response?

Both Jacky and Aqua just stare at Zeke looking shock as the toad was not attacking him but also letting him attack without being bothered.

Jacky: Okay, we are definitely getting him a sword once we save enough money. I mean his weapon isn't even doing anything.

Aqua: That Toad is just eating while it is getting slashed!

Zeke then delivered three more slices to the toad's right leg as it still did not react, the gashes were bleeding, yet still no reaction from the creature.

Zeke: I am doing damage, yet it still hasn't bothered to defend itself. Why wouldn't it attack?

Zeke then noticed that the only movement the giant toad made was swallowing its food, no other part of its body so much as twitched. Zeke then picked up a rock before tossing it at the toad's eye, hitting it directly. The toad closed its eye briefly before opening it again, still not directing its attention towards Zeke.

Jacky: What the hell is wrong with the toad?

Aqua: I have no clue either it just keeps eating while Zeke continues to hurt it and it is not doing anything to fight back!

Zeke: So that's it, well if it's so caught up with its meal, then that gives me an opening.

Zeke then quickly runs behind the toad before carefully climbing up its back, now standing on its neck, right in front of the back of its head.

Jacky: Is Zeke doing what I think he is doing?

Aqua: There is no way that Toad would just let itself be stabbed in the head right?

To Aqua's shock Zeke swiftly stabbed the toad through the head, piercing its skull. The giant toad then collapsed onto its stomach, limbs splayed out to its sides, dead. Zeke then removed his broken sword from the toad before gently leaping off its head and landing on the ground.

Jacky: Holy shit!

Aqua: He killed a toad with a broken sword!

The two just stare at Zeke with their jaws open.

Jacky: Okay what the hell! How does that make any sense?

Zeke: I figured it out, these toads seem to remain perfectly still while eating, perhaps in an effort to conserve energy. The quest we took mentioned it's their mating season. So I reasoned that in an effort to conserve energy the toads stop moving completely while swallowing their prey. That is the only justification I can find for their passive behavior.

Jacky and Aqua just stare at Zeke and find his reason logical.

Jacky: Well if that is the case let me give it a go.

Jacky then sees one of the toads eating a goat and he pulls out an arrow from his quiver and then pulls back the bow.

Jacky aims at the Toad and takes a deep breath making sure to concentrate but as he is about to release Aqua yells at him.

Aqua: Just shoot already!

Jacky instantly let go as well as being disoriented for being yelled at. The arrow flies through the air and misses the toad.

Aqua: You missed it!

Jacky: Well you are the one that yelled!

Jacky and Aqua both argue they both hear a croak and turned around to see another giant toad.

Jacky: Oh crap....

Aqua: Oh please I can handle this. Take this!

Aqua said as she pointed her staff at the Toad but before she could cast a spell the Toad swallowed her whole.

Jacky: AQUA!!!!

Jacky then draws his bow and quickly backs away to have enough distance to fire his arrow. Jacky then pulls back the string and releases the arrow which hits the Toad's stomach. This of course did not do anything and the giant Amphibian.

Zeke: If you plan on shooting its body, it will most likely take around eight to ten arrows, possibly more. Make sure you collect any you use from its body. No point in having to buy new ones all the time right?

Jacky: Right...

Jacky then got to it and started shooting the thing like it was no tomorrow. Though while Jacky shoots the Toad Aqua was seen inside using the staff to stop herself from being eaten but as she tries to save herself arrows started to appear and start to dodge.

Aqua: Jacky, stop! I am still in here!

Aqua yelled, which sadly was muffled out due to being inside the toad.

8 to 10 arrows later

After shooting the toad it finally pukes out Aqua which Jacky then went up to see if she was okay but as he got close Aqua tried to punch him but due to slime missed and falls to the ground.

Jacky: Okay, why did you try to hit me?

Aqua: I nearly got stabbed by your arrows!

Jacky looks at Aqua and looks at her for a moment before scratching his head.

Jacky: My bad...

Aqua's eyes twitch and she literally pounces on him.

Aqua: Prepare to feel the wrath of a Goddess for trying to turn her into a pincushion!

Before Aqua could start her assault, the duo heard a loud thud and turned to see Zeke standing on top of another dead giant toad, broken sword in hand.

Zeke: Good work saving our healer, considering her specialization it's our job to defend her. You know, keep the person that keeps us alive, alive.

Aqua: He tried to murder me with his arrows!

Jacky: How the hell was I supposed to know that the arrows were able to penetrate further into the body?

Zeke then dropped off the giant toad's body before twirling his broken sword in his left hand.

Zeke: It appears only one is left, this one is pink in color. Do either of you wish to partake, or should I handle it?

Zeke got his answer as Aqua was trying to pummel Jacky.

Aqua: I told you to stop but you kept shooting the damn thing!

Jacky: Again how was I supposed to know?!

Zeke: Perhaps I should fight this one with attacks to the body, that should give those two enough time to calm down.

Zeke then walked over to the pink giant toad, who was like the others busy eating. Zeke began slashing away at its body as his party members continued to argue.

30 Minutes Later

Zeke stood over the now-dead pink giant toad as he let out a sigh of relief.

Zeke: That was a good workout, I've dispatched the last toad. Are both of you ready to return to the village?

Both were seen covered in bruises and nodded. The three then grab all the Giant toads and take them back to the Adventurer's guild. Once there Luna was counting on how much Eris to give to the three.

Luna: Wow you brought back four Giant Toads and took down a pink one. For killing this many, I say the amount I owe you is One hundred and ten thousand Eris.

When Luna said that Jacky calculated the price and told the price what it is worth in their currency back in the States.

Jacky: So that is around Seven hundred and Seventy-Two dollars. Not bad for doing one quest.

Luna then gives them their Eris and once she leaves, Jacky pulls some of it out and gives it to Aqua.

Jacky: We are now even on the quiver and arrows.

Aqua sees the Eris before Zeke did the same giving her more Eris. Aqua looks at them in shock as she was paid back the full amount.

Aqua: Wow, I thought you two would have forgotten.

Zeke: Of course not, now as I promised here is half of my payment.

Aqua just looks at them and smiles before hearing her stomach growl.

Aqua: I am hungry.

Zeke: We should eat, however Aqua as our healer it might be wise if you handle our money in regards to paying for food and shelter.

Jacky turns to Zeke if he was serious.

Jacky: You sure that is a good idea? She might just buy us the cheapest meal while she gets a good meal.

When Jacky said that Aqua pulls his shirt and glares at him.

Aqua: You calling me greedy?

Jacky: If the boot fits.

Zeke: Would you rather one of us do it? She's our healer, if one of us falls, she will revive us. In a sense since we're protecting her, we're protecting our money for food and shelter.

Jacky then shuts his mouth before sighing.

Jacky: Fine but if she spends all our money I am giving her a wedgie.

Aqua: What's a wedgie?

Jacky was tempted to do it but realized if he did that he would be considered a pervert.

Jacky: I retract my statement.

Before the three could head out to eat, one of the adventurers was admiring their catch.

Random Adventurer: Hey, nice catch. What weapon did you use to kill it?

Jacky: I only killed one of them with my arrows, the others were killed by him.

Jacky said pointing to Zeke who is looking over his Skill Card. The adventurer then walks up to Zeke.

Random Adventurer: So what did you use to kill those beasts?

Zeke: The sword sheathed on my hip.

Zeke drew the broken sword and held it up for the adventurer to see.

Random Adventurer: By the gods how did you use a broken sword to kill those things?! That is not possible!

The Random Adventurer said, causing everyone to look at Zeke in disbelief.

Zeke: Difficult, yes, impossible, no. Using a subpar weapon forces me to study my opponents and formulate strategies on how to counter them. I figured out the giant toads are completely oblivious when eating, so I climbed onto the backs of the two green ones and stabbed them in the heads. The pink one I slashed away at for half an hour to let my teammates settle their differences.

Everybody just stares at Zeke as if he was a madman.

Random Adventurer: You fought for that long against that monster. How can you do that for so long with a broken weapon?

Zeke: Well, I suppose back in my homeland I got rather used to fighting the same monsters over and over again. Eventually running through the usual slaying quests began to get rather stale. So as a self-imposed challenge I started using damaged weapons to complete quests. I certainly had my fair share of blunders and failures along the way, but I found the experience of putting myself at a disadvantage to be a satisfying obstacle to overcome.

The people in the guild dropped their jaws while Jacky just stares at him also dropping jaws but not for the same reason.

Jacky's thoughts: Jesus Christ, the guy played through the Dark Souls trilogy with the Broken straight sword.

Aqua also had her jaw open and wondered if Zeke was a masochist.

Jacky: Dude, you scare me now. I dare say what it would be like if you used a proper weapon.

Zeke: Well it would've made our quest go quicker, but I'm fine holding on with this sword for a quest or two more. I could use a buckler, that would help with my Parry Skill.

Jacky just looks at him and just shrugs and turns to the waitress.

Jacky: Hey waitress, give us a table with drinks and food, please.

The Waitress nodded and seated the three but as they did the Adventurers just stared at Zeke looking at him as both a brave and crazy warrior. The waitress comes back with three mugs of Ale while also a plate of fried toad meat.

Jacky: This smells good.

Aqua: Agreed.

Aqua said, having drool coming out of her mouth. Aqua then raises her mug and looks at the three.

Aqua: Our first quest was a success and if we keep this up we might have a shot at taking the Demon Lord down.

Zeke: Baby steps, let's focus on clearing harder and harder quests and bosses before we run straight for the final boss.

Jacky: Got it, Boss.

Jacky smiled, raising his mug as well while Zeke looked at him.

Zeke: Boss?

Aqua: Out of the three of us you are best to lead. So you are the boss.

Zeke: Well if it's up to vote it appears I've already been beaten. Very well, I accept.

Both Jacky and Aqua smiled and Zeke raised his mug as well.

Zeke, Jacky, and Aqua: Cheers!

The three then enjoyed their meals while also planning for the next quest.
