6.) First Date!!
I pull my phone out and check the time. Sakura's class started thirty minutes after we were released and that was at 4:15. It's now 6:00 and I am still waiting outside the little martial arts studio downtown. I pull up texts getting ready to text her when the front door opens and out walks my girlfriend.
When she sees me her face instantly lights up and a huge smile appears. "Hey, didn't think you would be here." She says.
I roll my eyes at her and laugh. "It's our first date, come on. You could try to have a little more faith in me." I tease taking her hand in my own.
Sakura chuckles softly. "Oh, I do. So did we miss our movie time?" She asks looking over at me.
I meet her gaze her an apologetic look. "By about fifteen minutes," I reply. Honestly, I'm a little relieved that we missed the movie because as a first date it's pretty lame. I had actually been banking on missing the movie so that we could go someplace else. Fortunately, things worked out in my favor so she won't even see it coming.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think it would run that late," Sakura says quietly looking down at the sidewalk.
I can see that she's upset with herself so I nudge her with my shoulder. "Hey now, no being sad. How bout we go for a walk in the park down here before we head back to your place?" I offer.
Sakura smiles. "Sure, I have never been in the park over here actually." She says nudging me back.
I can't help smile when she reveals the information. I now know that this is going to be the best first date ever.
Hand in hand we talk into the park. Since it's only early September the nights are still relatively short so we have plenty of light. I guide us down the paths, knowing exactly where we are going.
"Something tells me you have been here before." Sakura jokes from beside me.
I fake a look of hurt. "Ouch, your lack of faith hurts." I tease, half cracking a smile. "Yes, I have been here. My dad used to take me and Hana here when we were little." I say, my voice getting low. I can't help the small amount of sadness in my voice at the memories so I smile at Sakura to let her know it's okay.
Just as I am about ready to say something stupid to lighten the mood we get to our destination. Sakura pauses a moment stopping us a few feet before the rail. I smile a halfcocked smile as I watch her reaction. We are at the edge of the park which overlooks most of the residential part of town. In the daylight hours it's not half bad but at sunset...at sunset, the sun dips below the mountains off along the horizon and the sky is painted with golds, oranges, pinks, purples, and reds.
"It's spectacular Kiba," Sakura says in awe, letting go of my hand and walking slowly to the rail.
"My dad loved sunsets, so whenever mom was working late he would bring us to play here after school and then we would watch the sunset," I tell her.
She turns around and looks me in the eye. I feel my heart constrict in my chest painfully. Her stare conveys so much that I think it may be overwhelming me but that doesn't stop me from staring right back.
Before she has time to say anything my phone starts to ring playing a slow guitar strum. I laugh and shake my head, couldn't have been better timed. Without saying a word I step forward and take Sakura by the hand. Pulling her close I start swaying to the song playing out of my pocket.
At first, she gives me a quizzical look and laughs, but as we sway to the song playing she looks up at me realization now on her face. "This is the first song we danced to isn't it?" She asks with a small smile.
"Huh? Is it?" I ask, playing stupid. Of course I know it's the song that we first danced to in the gym almost two years ago.
The only thing my lie gets me is smacked playfully on the arm. "It is!" She exclaims with a chuckle. Her eyes meet mine and our gaze locks. For a moment it's like the whole world stops and it's just me and Sakura.
Her lips meet mine and slowly caress my own. She tastes of cherry lip gloss and a hint of mint. The kiss doesn't last very long but when it ends she is blushing. "You planned this didn't you?" She asks quietly.
I shrug and pull her closer. "It's our first date, it had to be memorable right?" I ask casually.
Sakura rolls her eyes. "A movie would have been fine Kiba. You went above and beyond here. Thank you." She says her eyes tearing up.
I laugh and hug her tight. "You're worth it," I say squeezing her.
Sakura laughs and pushes at me. "You're going to suffocate me!" She whines as she tries to get out of my arms.
With one swift motion, I spin her around and pull her close again, her back now flat against my chest. "Better?" I softly ask in her ear.
Sakura nods and leans her head back on my shoulder. "So tell me, who did you blackmail into calling you?"
I laugh. "Actually no one. It was strange I asked Naruto and he agreed immediately. I'm not even sure he knew what I was planning."
Sakura hums softly. "That isn't like Naruto." She says quietly.
The conversation floats through my head for about the seventh time that day. Ever since we left for camp he's been acting strange and now that we are back it's gotten worse. Before last year I couldn't have given a shit about Naruto but now, somehow he became my friend and I'm worried something isn't right. "I know."
