2.) Don't Worry Bout it
It seems I have been in a foul mood since I left for camp and I'm tired of it. So of course when my dad arrives back home with me I dump my bag in my room and bound back down the stairs towards the front door.
"Hold on there, where are you going? You haven't even seen your mother." My dad says from in front of the stove in the kitchen, a small frown on his face.
I groan and fold my arms behind my head. "I was going to go see Hinata since I texted her I was back," I say dully. I'm thankful that the sour mood is still right below the surface and hasn't surfaced when talking to my father.
"Minato honey it's alright. I am sure that she missed you Naruto. Will you be having dinner over there then?" My mother asks from the open back door.
The smell of BBQ chicken drifts in and my stomach growls angrily at me. "Yeah probably," I say in a strained tone. "Can I go now?" I ask my ongoing irritated mood slipping through.
My father gives me a disapproving look while my mother smiles and nods with a chuckle. "Text your father when you are on your way home."
I nod and without any more delays, I run out of the house. I have been looking forward to being able to see Hinata all summer. I mean I had talked to her every night this summer which was more than Kiba and Sakura did but it was different. I felt like if I could just have her in my arms that all this stress would melt away.
I felt like shit. I was still upset with Sasuke. How could he confide in me something like wanting to get Sakura back? The idea was crazy. One because he had hurt her and second she was in love with Kiba. Any idiot could see that she was. Unfortunately, he swore me to secrecy so I haven't told anyone.
Not only did I have this huge secret of Sasuke's I also lied to Kiba about what Sasuke was up to. Friends don't do that. I couldn't pinpoint when I had started thinking of Kiba as a friend but he was and I was being a bad friend.
I practically run all the way to Hinata's house, so as I knock on the door I'm breathing heavily. The smile on Hinata's face instantly brings one to mine as she opens the door. Instantly I pick her up into a bear hug and spin her around, causing a giggle to escape her perfect lips.
"Welcome home." She laughs as I set her down gently.
I can feel my sanity slowly coming back at the sound of her giggle and laugh. "I am glad to be back." I beam at her before pulling her close and taking her lips with mine. Our kiss doesn't last long but the contact with her erases my worries.
Hinata giggles again and pulls away. "I have a surprise for you." She says quietly, taking my hand in hers. She leads me around the house and out to the back yard where to my relief a picnic is laid out. "I hope you are hungry."
"Are you kidding me, I almost died when I smelt dinner at home." I laugh taking a seat on the blanket that had been laid out for our picnic and start piling food on a plate.
Hinata frowns as she sits down. "I sure hope your parents aren't upset with me." She worries out loud.
I shake my head. "Nah. I mean my dad was a little annoyed at me but mom totally gets it." I say reaching over and putting my hand on top of Hinatas. "My parents adore you, don't worry."
Hinata sighs and smiles but I know it is a fake one. She always sighs right before she fakes a smile. "What's really bothering you?" I ask taking a huge bite of my sandwich.
Hinata shook her head. "It's just something silly, nothing important." She says putting some fruit and veggies on her plate.
I chew my food quickly and swallow. "If it's bothering you it's not silly," I say hoping my words will be enough to convince her to tell me what is bothering her. I don't like her worrying.
Hinata bites her lower lip and then sighs. "Hanibi is starting at the academy this year." She says quietly not meeting my eyes.
I scrunch my brow together in thought. "I don't understand, why are you worried about that?" I ask confused.
Hinata sighs heavily. "She's always been father's favorite and he was so proud of me when I got into the academy. Now that Hanabi made it in it doesn't feel as great as it used to." She says looking up at me, her eyes meeting mine.
I start to nod like I understand why she is upset but my nod soon turns into a shake. "I wish I knew why this was upsetting you. Hanabi is Hanabi and you are you. Two completely different people so of course you aren't the same."
Hinata smiles and nods. "You're right. I just have this feeling that she is going to try and hang out with all of us when she can." She says bleakly.
I can't help but smile at the amount of disappointment in Hinata's words. "I'm sure it won't be as bad as you think it will be," I say picking up my sandwich and taking another huge bite.
Hinata laughs and eats an apple slice. "I'm glad you are hungry." She smiles warmly at me.
I nod rather than talk as I finish chewing my third bite. "So tell me how the summer went for you and Sakura. We hardly spoke about you when we talked." I say hoping that Hinata will talk for a few minutes so that I can finish my sandwich and maybe a second.
