Pen Name: I go by Lizzie.
Username: bvtterflyeffect
Is you pen name you legal name? If no, then how did you make up one?
It's actually my middle name! I wanted to use a name that still had a part of me in it and even though I'm a very private person since Lizzie is pretty common, I thought I'd take my chances and go by that.
How many books have you published till date?
I've published 5 books so far!
What are your future projects?
I have so many, haha. I have around 38 drafts on Wattpad but only 5 of them are being considered. I have two books that I want to pump out as soon as I'm finished with my latest one because I'm super excited about the concepts!
What is writing to you?
Writing is a lot of things to me and it's too hard to explain in words. I guess to me, it's a hobby, a passion and an escape; it's what brings me joy. It gives me the opportunity to build my own world with my own characters and to make the rules. Basically, writing to me gives me the freedom to write and say what I want or feel about a particular topic or theme through my characters without being judged.
Is being an author, your longtime dream or a hidden passion you found out later?
I've been writing since I was around ten and have always loved to create situations that would never happen to me in real life so I think it was a passion that had always been there but never taken seriously until I was around fifteen. I wanted to be a part of the community that was able to make people smile just through their stories. That was when I realised that I really love writing. No matter how bad I am, I want to keep doing it for as long as I can and go on a journey with my beloved readers.
What genre of books do you like to work on?
I am a huge sucker for Romance even though I hate the idea of it in real life, haha. It's so weird because I write about it like I'm some expert but in reality, I have no clue. I also do Teen Fiction and Historical fiction but with every genre, there's always Romance that I include because, without it, I feel like I don't know what I'm doing.
If we challenge you to write a book about another genre we suggest, then would you take it up?
Ooh, that's interesting! I mean, as long as I can include romance in it (lol) I'm up for anything! I definitely cannot do anything that's sci-fi because my imagination is very limited when it comes to making dystopian worlds. I had a couple of werewolf books that I had written ages ago but I felt so out of my comfort zone that I stopped. But, honestly, I don't mind a good challenge because it'll help me expand my creativity and help me become better as a writer, even if the book doesn't turn out good.
Then we would like to read a Humor-Fantasy genre book from you soon.
Writing is a reality that paints a beautiful fantasy. What do you think are the charms of writing fiction/non-fictional books?
It gives us writers freedom that you really can't find anywhere else in the real world. In reality, you only live one life but when you write, you're living a new life in a different world each time and I think that''s beautiful. When life brings me down, I can always take comfort in the world that is extremely different from mine and with the characters that I've weirdly bonded with as if they're real human beings. It's being able to share our experiences through our writing and in each and every story, there is a part of us that always shines through and I think that's the magic and charm of writing.
Who are your favourite authors in and out of Wattpad?
I don't read much on Wattpad anymore but I do love the books of an author named IsisMcEllen.
Name a few of your close wattpad friends.
On Wattpad, there are very few people that know me on a personal level because, as I've said, I'm a very private person so I wouldn't say we're close in that sense but I've met some amazingly wonderful people through the reading community like thebombzzzz, shazzyjacks123, _krisha_26, fake_fairytales etc. My in real life friends are on Wattpad as well though such as theweekndlvr and ChasingStarsofwonder.
What is your favorite series you have recently watched or read?
I usually don't have the patience for TV shows but I liked '13 Reasons Why' even though I much prefer the book than the show. I've also recently finished the 'To All the Boys I've Loved Before' series because like I said before, even though I hate Romance in real life, reading romantic books is a guilty pleasure of mine, I guess.
Who is your favorite actor/actress?
Shah Rukh Khan will always be my number one BUT I love Allu Arjun, Surya, Vijay, Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Ram Charan, Nivin Pauly, Dulquer Salman and Junior NTR. Looking at this, I'm embarrassed because I have so many.
I don't have a favourite actress haha, I always only focus on the guys but I used to be obsessed with Asin when I was younger.
And yes, they're all Indian!
Who is your favorite Villain you couldn't help but love?
Oh, this is super hard. But, um, I guess Doctor Sivana from Shazam. While I didn't love him per se, I didn't really hate him either because I felt bad for him. He was hated by his brother and his father; repeatedly told he wasn't good enough as a kid and then blamed for an accident that he didn't cause. I feel like he became evil not just because of his circumstances but also because he had no one to love him, to show him the difference between right and wrong and that really, he was in fact, good enough. Maybe others might see it differently but to me, he was a Villain with reason and that really hit me hard.
What are your hobbies other than writing and reading?
I love watching Horror movies and just movies in general, hanging out with friends and family, listening to music and cooking even though I practically suck at it.
What are your hidden talents?
I don't know if it's a talent but I can twist and twirl my tongue and make weird shapes with it. Oh, and I can whistle, too but that's it. Basically, I'm lame when it comes to the talents department, haha.
Who is your first celebrity crush?
Though I love SRK, he wasn't my very first. My first ever celebrity crush was Surya but in the English/Hollywood industry, I once had this embarrassing celebrity crush on this actor named 'Jake Short' when I was a kid but I don't know why. He wasn't attractive or anything—his character's personality on the TV show I loved was just funny. But now when I think about it, I always cringe!
What is the most embarrassing situation that you have ever been through?
Oh gosh, there are so many embarrassing situations that I've found myself in and if I had a dollar for every embarrassing moment, I'd be a millionaire. But, the one that I remember right now is when I was around fifteen years old; I was walking around the school with period blood on the back of my dress and everyone was staring at me. I didn't know why until the end of the day when (luckily) two of my friends, raced over and shuffled behind me like bodyguards trying to cover it up and led me to the girls' toilets.
It wasn't embarrassing until afterwards when I trapped myself in the toilet stall trying to get rid of it and realised why people were staring at me and laughing the entire time—it was even worse because no one even bothered to tell me!
One craziest thing you have ever done?
I'm a person that likes to stay inside a little safety box, haha, so I don't usually put myself out there and do 'crazy' things because I'm too much of a wimp!
There are many authors who just started their journey and many readers who want to write but has no courage to do so. Please give them a tip and a word of encouragement.
I just want to say to all the authors and readers that sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and let your passion guide you. I didn't want to publish because of the fear of being hated on and getting bad comments but I knew that at the end of the day, that the hate you get should be treated like gum on the back of your shoe.
The reality is, you're writing for yourself and your happiness and you should never let someone else dictate whether you are good or bad at writing. Sure, people have opinions and some people may not like your book but that's the case with everything.
With every person that hates your book, there will always be other people who will shower it with love and that's what matters. Just treat this as an experience to get better. Write for you and no one else and just trust in yourself because I believe anyone can do anything they put their minds to as long as they take that first step, try but most of all: believe in themselves!
Last but not least, have you ever dreamt of writing your own comic?
I don't mind reading comics from time to time but I don't think I'm a comic writer, ahaha, that's just another level!
What do you feel about this interview?
