In the center of the whole land is where the kingdoms land separates.

The edges form like a circle and for miles it stretches into a huge ocean closed up by the surrounding land. It's a mystery still as to how the water got inside the circle since it was closed off from the real oceans.

This is at the edge of every land.

Kanto in the north it's bottom, miles from the castle, is the edge.

Johto in the south it's north leads to the edge.

Hoenn in the east it's west connecting to the edge.

And Sinnoh in the west it's east leads to the edge.

In the center of that ocean is a huge island.

Ever since it has become tradition for the royal teens to go during the summer on a vacation every year there on their own.

Each year they go with their knight of choice to the island and interact with each other.

That time has come again!

Leaf

"An island!" I squeaked at the idea. I've never been away out of johto ever!

"Yes the day after your coronation you'll be attempting with a knight of your choice and you'll meet the princes and princesses of the other kingdoms!" My dad said gleefully. It was still weird having a dad.

But as each day went on I began to already forget about my "mother".

All the things she had said didn't make sense to me anymore.

But I still want to know why she did it.

I've been learning so much now about the real world. It's hard to let go of the fantasy world I lived in for 16 years.

I began to think about my conversation last night with my parents.

"I want to know what happened that night, the night I was taken" I asked as I laid in my bed.

They sat down on the side of it and took a deep breath before my father began to recount the events.

"You were only 2 months old when you were taken, it was raining that night and everything the kingdom was all dark everywhere, then there was a crash from your room so we ran only to see a hooded figure jumping off the balcony from a broken window you in her arms" he explained.

My mother continued "yes we had the whole staff even villagers that whole night looking but it had appeared to us you just vanished" I could hear her voice break.

"Your here though and we will never let anyone take you again" she said hugging me.

My fake mother never did that.

Since then I've felt closer to them.

Today is my coronation day as well and I have a lot of things to do to be prepared.

The maids were dressing me and put my hair up.

"They're leaf you look stunning!" I'm sort of use to my real name now I thought as the maid pointed in the mirror.

I never imagined to wear something so glamorous.

"What an exciting day! Finally we have our first official princess!" She clapped her hands together and I smiled nervously.

Was I really up to this task? A real princess. For years I've stolen from these people! And now I'm expected to one day become their queen!

The idea made my stomach churn.

She walked me out to the grand hall and there was Garry waiting. I blushed seeing him look at me with awe.

I also looked at him the same way. He was in his official knight uniform and it was the first time I've seen him in it.

"Alright everyone else is inside you shall enter and as tradition the top knight walks you" the maid explained and I nodded.

Garry came over never looking me in the eyes and just wrapped our arms together.

We walked in and a bunch of villagers were there and other royalty. I began to get nervous and trip over myself when Garry whispered to me.

"Hey don't be nervous you got this leafy" my cheeks turned pink from the nickname and I looked at him nodding.

At the end of our walk he stood by my father and they began to read old scriptures.

I couldn't really pay attention as I thought more about everyone's eyes on me.

Minutes later they sat me down on the throne and put a golden tiara on my head.

Everyone began clapping but all I could think about was how fast my life was changing.

...

"Leaf meet Silver! He's been set to marry you since birth although the arrangements were canceled before but now they're back on track!" I looked at the red haired boy and he was just quiet.

"We'll let you two get to know each other!" My mother continued walking off.

We just stood there for a while before I took my hand out.

"Nice to meet ya silver!" He just starred at my hand and didn't say a word.

"Sorry my brother can be a weirdo but I'm red! Any idea where yellow is at!" The little boy red talked fast and his eyes lit up at the mention of yellow.

I giggled and pointed to her direction before he scurried off.

"Well um what kingdom are you from?" I asked.

"Unova" he said in a monotone voice and I nodded.

I could see my mom waving her hands around and she signaled for me to dance with him.

I might not like him but a princess I gotta marry him so might as well try to break through his ice.

"Why don't we go dance!" I suggested and he just shrugged and followed me to the dance floor.

Garry

It was hard to keep my composure watching leaf dance with that silver. I wanted to be the one holding her in a slow dance!

What the hell am I thinking! This is good she'll be married off and I can focus again.

Tonight is nowhere near that though. I could feel my blood boil as she was dancing with him. I just wanted to go over there and take her away and hold her protectingly as I was the knight in shining amour.

Her knight in shining amour.

I continued watching from afar when I noticed something. Leaf couldn't dance. She was tripping all over silver and I could see him become irritated.

I came closer until to hear something that set me off the edge.

"Geez I'm suppose to marry you your so improper I wish my parents would have stuck to the agreement with another more proper princess" silver said crossing his arms. Leaf looked down and I got angry.

Walking over almost stomping the ground I pulled leaf behind me and got into silvers face.

"I don't work for you I work for leaf and if you're gonna be a threat to her I'll have no choice but to come after you and leaf yes may still be learning but she has a kind heart and that's better then any other proper princess!" I yelled pointing a finger into his chest.

Leaf

My face was flushed at his words. Nobody ever talked about me that way.

He took me out to the balcony alone and he took a breath.

"I'm so angry how dare he talk about you that way!" He yelled grabbing his arms around the railing.

Something in me had took over. I ran hugging him from behind.

"Thank you" I whispered in a broken voice as small tears came out of my eyes.

"I've never had anyone talk to me like that Garry you're my... hero" he then slipped away before wrapping his arms around me facing me.

"I don't think you have any idea what you do to me" My eyes widened as I looked up at him.

"Your too much I can't stay away this is forbidden though your officially royalty but I want to be yours so much more now" he explained making me blush.

He began to lean down and I only heard this in fairy tales. Never did I imagine I'd actually experience it for myself.

His soft warm lips fit perfectly against mine and it was passionate.

We pulled apart and we sat on the railing holding hands.

...

"You'll be fine leaf!" Yellow reassured me, red nodding next to her.

I continued worrying though as I packed my suitcase.

"You'll have Garry with you too! So don't fret if you don't get along with the other princesses and princes!" She continued.

Really it made me more worried. Garry and me with no supervision! We were free to be a couple really as long as a rumor didn't start.

This whole secret relationship thing is new, I've never even been in a real relationship!

"My brother silver will be there too!" Red added to my mix of nervousness.

"Me lady leaf darling it's time to go! It's a very long journey north to the coast!" My maid knocked on the door.

"Yes ma'am!" I called out before closing the heavy suitcase.

She walked me out to the carriage where I said my goodbyes to my family. Then Garry came.

I blushed at his presence. He only starred with that serious tone. He's in knight mode.

"Take care of leaf we trust you sir Garry" My father spoke.

Garry

My heart twisted at his words. For years I've gained their trust and loyalty.

Always working to repay them for taking me and daisy in.

I felt like such a traitor.

"You have my word" I put my fist on my chest.

I helped leaf in and off we went to begin the long journey.

We were alone in this big carriage covered and I was the only guard.

An expertise on all things carriages was in the front steering the horses.

"They remind me of rapidash" leaf said as she looked out the window moving the curtain slightly.

"Rapidash is with the castle staff she'll be fine" I said looking away.

She made a hm sound before putting the curtain back and softly laid her head on my chest.

"Your mine" I said as I wrapped my arms around her protectively.

She snuggled closer and I could feel my stomach and heart tug in all sorts of different ways.

This is what I yearned for. True love. I feel it every single moment I am with her.

But I also feel guilt. For this is a forbidden love.

Leaf

"Silver will be there, I'll have to play it off so don't go doing anything that'll spark any rumors this is top secret" I whispered looking at Garry dead in the eyes.

"Love, what shall I do when you have to marry him?" It was the lingering question in the air.

"Perhaps, perhaps we could run away, we could fly to the tallest mountain, swim to the deepest water, and as long as we had each other wherever we were would be perfect!" I played.

He kissed my hair but his eyes were serious.

"Seriously leaf this is forbidden what if this is foolish and in the end you leave me and I'd be torn apart" he held onto my hand I cupped his cheek.

"Don't think that way darling be with me now and the future will come we'll fight for each other then for now we're eternal" I think my words really did reach him.

We shared a soft kiss when a loud crash was heard outside.

Garry quickly got on the defense and opened the carriage doors.

Outside I saw a pair of bandits had stopped our carriage with there's filled with belongings.

Most likely stolen.

"Leaf stand back" he whispered and I did.

My heart was leaping from my chest having to watch him confront them on his own.

"Move out of the way this belongs to the royal family, I've sworn to protect them, leave no or suffer the consequences!" He shouted.

They only laughed not taking him seriously.

The masked bandits then lunged themselves at him, Garry was prepared though.

He dogged their attacks and as they fell he struck them with his sword.

One got away though and came closer to the carriage.

"Leaf!" Garry yelled before the bandit grabbed my arm roughly.

"Draw down your sword or she gets it" he said pointing a dagger at my neck.

Calmly Garry did just that before the other bandit pinned him down.

"Garry!" I yelled pulling away from the man gripping me.

I had a lot of moves taught to me from my other mother though.

I shinned him grabbing the dagger stabbing his knee causing him to fall back.

Then I twisted it before pulling it out and running to Garry's captor.

Stabbing him and pushing him off felt so gross but Garry needed help.

The two bandits laid there in agony as I helped Garry up.

"Guards in the nearby village are on their way" our escort informed us.

The bandits were seized and we headed off again.

...

"The boat trip is only 15 minutes and once you guys arrive you will be situated in your rooms!" A boat escort explained.

Garry and I nodded as they took our luggage. We then went onto the boat where they explained more about how things would work on the shared castle grounds.

"So the guards will be staying on the oposite side of the castle and there will be 4 princesses per room they're are several of them here and once we arrive you guys will be taken to your rooms to meet your roommates and such" the boat escort explained.

Oh gee.

I wonder what the other princesses will be like?

Dawn

"Ah another year with my girls!" I squealed as I hugged my best friends.

"Your crushing me!" Misty groaned.

"Yeah same here!" May yelped. I let go and giggled.

"It must be a miracle for us to get shared rooms every year!" I pointed out.

May nodded "and since there's a new official princess I thought everyone would be bumped one and I'd have to end up with those snobby princesses" she said sticking her tongue out.

"I'm surprised your even here with how bad your kingdom has been doing lately I thought your evil step mother would keep the funds of sending you" misty told May and I agreed.

"Same here but my step sisters begged to go so she pulled some funds here and there" may explained.

"I wonder if we'll get anyone in here with us usually we always end up with just us 3" May added.

She wasn't wrong. Ever since we went through our coronation we've been coming as an anual tradition.

It's how we all met.

Though we hardly see each other other then here.

"Guys I'm still madly in love with Paul!" I whined laying onto one of the four beds.

"Well I think I'm falling for the new knight ash" misty said quietly.

"Misty you in love no way!" I yelled surprised. Never did I think that the fiery red head would.

"Not to mention the fact he's a knight and it's so taboo I don't get it when I'm queen I'll make it normal!" I said pointing a finger in the air.

They laughed at that when the door opened.

"Lady's meet princess leaf this is her first year here so please make her feel welcomed" a maid announced before walking out.

Leaf was beautiful! Full lips, long hair, tall figure! How lucky.

She just stood there holding a suitcase with a plain face.

"Greetings" she bowed very formally.

"Hey no need to do that your a princess too ya know!" Misty said cheerfully.

Leaf tilted her head and spoke again.

"Oh right sorry I haven't been a princess for too long I'm so use to being a commoner" I felt bad for her.

We heard the stories. She believed with all her heart and soul everyone else was evil.

I can't imagine how most of her life was consumed by some evil woman.

I then stood up and hugged her.

"No need to worry here! We're like the best princesses around you'll fit in, in no time!" I said cheerfully.

She nodded and then we all sat down to get to know her more. We didn't bring up her past though.

"You've read all the books by him! No way!" May said with her eyes sparkling.

"Erm well I did have a lot of free time back then most of my days were boring before I became a princess" we all grew quiet.

"Um! But anyways I really love the series even if it's 32 books in" leaf said quickly changing the subject.

We nodded before a loud bell was heard.

"What's that for?" Leaf asked.

"Ah the first bell means lunch for today tomorrow the first bell will mean lunch though" misty explained to leaf.

"We get to have lunch with our knights" I said dreamly.

"Who's your knight leaf we've never had a knight show up from the johto region!" May asked.

"Gary he's the one who found me I trust him more than anything" there was something familiar about the look in her eyes when she talked about him.

"You're in love with you knight aren't you!" I said pointing a finger at her.

"Wah! Of course not why would you say that!" She said blushing furiously.

"It's ok I know it's taboo according to our parents but really I too love my knight I have my whole life so I understand" I said holding her arms looking dead into her eyes.

"Same here well he's new to the guards and there's just something about him that I can't get over" misty added.

Leaf sighed and bit her lip.

"Can you guys keep a secret?" She said nervously.

We all nodded in unison.

Leaf took a breath "Gary and I are in a secret relationship and I want to tell the world we're together but then we couldn't" we all looked at her wide eyed.

"Lucky you! Paul can't even look at me!" I yelled and they all laughed taking away our serious tones.

"What would the reprimands be for what I've done though?" Leaf asked and we all grew quiet.

"Well nobody has ever broken that rule I think so punishment would be up to our parents I'm guessing" I said thoughtfully.

I never have thought about it before.

"A girl can dream though" I sighed.

"Guys I almost forgot! We gotta go to the lunch!" May yelled her hands on her cheeks.

"We gotta dress nice too!" I added.

I ran to the closet opening it to see a huge closet of dresses.

"Wow" leaf said looking at all the dresses.

"Come on girls we gotta dress to impress" May giggled.

We all get changed and impressed each other.

I choose a very light blue dress and paired with with white flats.

May choose a red one with red heels.

Misty had on an elegant golden dress with yellow flats.

Finally leaf had put on a light green dress with white heels.

"Let's show those people in that dining hall what we mean!" I yelled passionately.

Paul

"I can't believe your already the princess favorite ashy boy" Garry said to ash.

Ash laughed at that "Ive actually missed that nickname really in Kanto the only friend I really have is the princess" ash explained.

Garry nodded at that and scratched the back of his head.

"Yeah It's unfortunate you had to move and not be recruited in Johto like you should have" Garry added.

I've known of Garry for a long time. He was master knight in johto and every kingdom only had one.

Mine use to be sir Eric...

In a way I respect Garry for that. I was striving to be a master knight like Eric and Garry.

Back home in Sinnoh the position was given to Berry. No matter how much of an annoying chub he is he always manages to do better then me.

If I could just do a little more that could show him.

Sir Eric will always be the best in my book.

As we sat down in the dining hall filled with large tables for everyone I was trying to make out what drew was thinking.

I had met him before on my last year of training he came to train some as well.

That island just for knights.

He's always been the quiet one though and smelt funny.

Like a dog.

"Garry what training methods do you use?" I asked him finally turning away from ash.

Ash and him apparently knew each other and were catching up.

To me ash was a weakling of a knight and would have to work a lot to become stronger.

"Extensive muscle work and gymnastics really once you have the knife skill down those two are the main things you should work on" he explained.

I nodded and asked ash the same.

"Oh well I don't really train much at the moment I've been employed as Misty's caretaker kind of like just to keep her entertained but when I do train it is mainly on knife wielding skills I'm not too good at" her nervously laughed after that.

"Misty? You mean your princess it's rude to call her by first name" I corrected. Though I myself believe I've called princess dawn just dawn before they didn't have to know that.

"We've grown closer then just that though" he sighed.

I just moved on to drew and asked him.

"Well I don't really have say a passion for being a knight Im just doing it for a nice place to stay and food" he explained.

Drew's from Hoenn, a kingdom slowly crumbling. There's nothing we can do either. All the kingdoms have been trying to help but the queen in hoenn refuses and even has cut down on trades.

Really because she has nothing to trade with the people not having jobs.

I heard the large doors open and turned around to see dawn with other princesses.

She never failed at showing up others with her fashion. Dawn will always be stunning yes but that's only for fantasies never real.

As soon as her eyes caught mine they sparkled. I'm use to seeing it. She dragged her friends over and they sat at our table in front of us.

"Paul these our my friends misty, May, and leaf!" She introduced.

"Hey your just in luck I think that we all know these knights" leaf added.

"Really!?" Dawn questioned.

Leaf nodded and pointed to the badges on our knight uniform.

"Well Garry is the knight I asked to accompany me and the rest have your guys symbol kingdom crest" leaf explained.

They gave her a strange look that made her blush.

I've never been the one for reading people though.

"Ahem!" We all turned to see Kenny and some other princes behind him.

"Oh god" misty muttered looking away.

"Yes it is us we have come to take our ladies to sit with us!" Kenny said with his head high.

"Get out of here Kenny we're sitting with our knights" Dawn said her eyes sending daggers into his.

"My misty it has been a whole year since I last saw you" a prince with short brown hair said climb over to her.

He kissed her hand before she quickly shook it off.

"I wish it would have been more then a year Rudy" Misty was so rude.

"I would come more but you always decline my meetings and never answer my letters" Misty just ignored him facing away.

"May dear we haven't got all day come now with your friends and sit with your husbands to be" another prince with a red cap said.

"Don't speak to me that way Brendan" May said obviously ticked off.

The one behind them with red hair just stood there saying nothing.

"Silver convince your fiancé" Kenny tried.

"Excuse me but the princesses have a right to sit where they please so they should sit with us if that's what they want" ash said standing up.

Wrong move there buddy.

"Excuse me low class knight you do not ever do that to royalty how dare you try to interfere!" Rudy yelled pointing a finger at him.

"Excuse you Rudy! You guys are so privileged you guys get to sit down and eat good meals while these knights work their hardest everyday no matter what class to allow you guys to have those luxuries and to repay them you choose to be ungrateful and rude!" Misty roared.

It was as if a whole fire lit inside of her.

"Whatever lets go" finally Kenny said and they all left.

"Ugh I hate that we have to marry them why couldn't we be with anyone else" Misty said and they nodded.

I felt bad for them. It must be hard having to be forced into something like that.

...

That night I couldn't get any sleep. My mind was racing with thoughts of what I saw.

The treatment of princesses was just marriage and be a queen. Never did I think anything of it until I saw the way those princes treated them.

They deserved better.

Dawn deserved better.

Throughout everything Dawn has always been there for me. What if I was wrong. What if... no way.

I rolled over on my side shaking those thoughts. I'm her knight nothing more.

Suddenly I heard Garry get up and leave the room. It was so late though. I really shouldn't snoop but I had to.

I quietly followed him only to see something that made me rethink everything.

Him and leaf were together at the balcony hugging.

"You're the only thing that makes this feel better" leaf whispered in there hug.

"I know your going through a lot too though, suddenly I come crashing into your life and now your going against everything you stood for but your doing it and I love you even more for that" she continued.

He rubbed her back and kissed the top of her head.

"I'll figure something out that in the end we'll both be happy I promise you I'll find a way Leaf"

I felt betrayal at first until I realized why he did it. Garry was still a Nobel knight. Just one who was in love.

The customs are wrong. People should love who they want. The way I use to think I would have screamed and gotten him fired. He would most likely have been thrown in jail.

Instead I walked away with a new way at looking at things.

And finally I let my thoughts of Dawn and I in. Maybe.

Just maybe.
