Chapter 20 Message
Iris Eloclipse stared the farmer knight down. He didn't meet her gaze. Instead, he took an interest in the floor.
"I don't know anything," he said finally looking her in the eyes almost pleadingly. "I'm telling the truth. I would never betray the four nations."
Iris studied him and could tell he was being honest. The scars on his face and hands said he'd risked his life for the four nations numerous times.
"Alright. You're free to go," she said.
"I hope you find the traitor," he said before he left.
They've been at this for several hours. They still didn't have any leads and Iris was tired.
She looked over to the Vympiri who was watching her.
Remi looked at her with red eyes.
"You know this is getting us nowhere," she said.
"I'm aware. Do you have any bright ideas?" Iris responded.
"Think. It could be someone in your very circle. Those are who we should be interrogating."
Iris nodded in agreement. That made sense. It would be better to start closer to the top.
"Instead of questioning them, we could question their close ones. Someone is bound to slip up."
"That sounds like a good idea, human." Said the Vympiri
"My name is Iris," she said for what must've been the hundredth time.
Remi said nothing. The Vympiri refused to acknowledge humans as equals. It frustrated Iris but she held her tongue for the sake of peace.
Iris stretched and yawned. "Well, I'm tired. Aren't you?"
"No."
"Well, I am. We'll get started after I take a power nap."
"Fine. I'll keep going."
"That's not a good idea," Iris said hurriedly. "My people might take it the wrong way. We are already on edge being so close."
"My people are too."
"Trust me I know. We've been fighting for a long time. Perhaps this truce won't be such a bad thing to maintain." Iris dared to hope.
The Vympiri laughed. "Cattle is still cattle." She stated.
Iris thought as much. A lasting treaty between Vympiri and humanity was a foolish thing to hope for.
"Whatever." Iris yawned again. "I'm going to sleep. Don't make a move until I get back."
Several minutes passed when Iris' head hit the pillow.
She drifted off to sleep immediately.
Her mind began to dream. At first, the dreams were incoherent then she heard a voice in the darkness.
Iris, the voice called.
Who's there? Her conscious mind asked.
It is I, Iris.
Suddenly a large blue dragon appeared in the darkness.
Vimra, Iris whispered. Haven't seen you in years. What's up?
Vimra was the dragon who taught Iris to use stardust. Iris had fought the dragon to get it to teach her stardust. She had stood no chance against the beast but it was impressed.
The dragon lived on another planet. Iris stumbled upon a portal to another world during her solo adventures where she met the creature.
I have come to inform you. The dragon began. You will have visitors.
If you mean the Darkness they are already here.
Not the Darkness. The Galactic Order.
Iris remembered what the dragon had told her about the Galactic Order. Five races fight together under one banner. She was told even Vympiri fought in the Galactic Order. The holy Knight couldn't see Vympiri fighting alongside anyone unless they were desperate.
Why are they coming here now? Iris asked.
I don't know.
Hopefully, they are coming to help us. How do you know this?
My creator is with them. I can feel him heading towards you, Iris.
I see. Thanks for the heads up.
You are welcome. Remember, there are other enemies besides the Darkness. Be prepared to face them or you will surely perish.
Got it. Anything else? Iris asked.
That is all. Farewell for now.
Farewell my friend. Don't be a stranger.
Iris awoke to alarms blaring.
What the hell?
Her door slid open to reveal a Knight. "Lady Iris, there's a fight!"
"A fight?" Iris repeated in dismay.
The underground city was fragile. A fight could destroy Atlantis. Iris hurried out the door. She rode the elevator to the bottom floor of the tall tower that served as a home to both humans and Vympiri.
When they finally made it to the scene a few buildings had been ruined. The silver street was dented.
Knights surrounded the area trying to keep back onlookers. They were careful not to touch Vympiri. In the center were a Vympiri and a Knight engaged in battle.
Iris warped between them. "What the hell is going on?!"
"This leech scum started it!" the Knight shouted.
"I refuse to work with lord Dracula's killers. I refuse to sleep alongside human trash!" the Vympiri screamed. Iris could feel black mana coming from him. He was preparing to attack.
Suddenly Remi appeared behind him. She grabbed his head and broke his neck. The Vympiri fell limp to the floor.
Remi looked down without remorse. "Anyone who jeopardizes the safety of my people are enemies."
Iris looked at the Knight who had engaged in the ruckus. He held up his hands in defeat.
Iris was glad he backed off. She didn't want to have to kill her people.
She looked over to Remi who was watching her.
"What?" the Vympiri asked.
"You sure about killing your own?" Iris answered.
"How I handle my kin is none of your business. Just make sure you handle yours."
Remi turned and left.
Yeah this treaty would definitely be short-lived if Iris couldn't connect with Remi. Too bad she had no idea how to do that.
