Chapter 2 - The brother and the father

It was as if time had came to a standstill as the two young men drifted in the icy cold vacuum of space.

Kaden Nadire was surprised he wasn't on fire seeing how he used up all his life force. He suspected the vacuum of space was too much for flames to form.

The planet, Lore was massive, as it floated through space. It was beautiful; blue, green, white, beige all coming together giving the image of a painted canvas. The blackness surrounding the planet just added to the magnificent sight.

The Darkness space vessel was a wreckage behind them. Debris floated pass the two warriors. Kaden was quite proud of what he had accomplished. Now the Darkness couldnt harm his comrades and people.

Still, he really wished he wasn't coming to a painful death as he yearned to enjoy the scenery.

They were not only suffocating, but it felt as if the pressure would burst their bodies at any given moment. The atmosphere was so cold that frost started to form on their bodies where sweat had started to form. The young man felt as if his brain was about to smash through his skulls. If he was going to die, Kaden wished he'd die already; every nanosecond felt like torture.

He watched as his former friend, Rygilya, float next to him. The young Darkness Tamer looked as if he was in just as much pain as Kaden. As Kaden looked into his rival's yellow-brown eyes he could see his will to fight and survive despite their conditions. Rygilya had the same look Kaden had seen back when they had fought side by side together in a war against the criminal organization known as Talon. Same as little over an hour ago when they had tried to kill each other before being abducted.

Even when it looked as though he would be defeated, Rygilya always refused to go down without a fight. Despite the fact that he was a traitor like his master, Kaden still admired his will.

A sudden darkness started to show on the edges of their vision, slowly trying to grab hold and consume Kaden.

Darkness soon found him. He closed his eyes and waited for death.

This is it. Kaden thought. I'm sorry master Iris, Aya... Kariah-Belle.

Not yet boy. Darqus said from inside his head, speaking for the first time in a while. You know I can't let you die here.

Suddenly Kaden could breathe. He took a big gulp of air and started inhaling and exhaling heavily. It was as if oxygen had found its way into his lungs...

Air? Kaden thought. But we're in outer space?! What the hell? Darqus?

The dark god fell silent within the young knight.

Confused, Kaden looked at his hands. Dragon scales covered them. The same as when he used his Mana to transform...

As he looked at the rest of his body, he found he was clad in dragon's scales that formed a sleek suit of armor. He could even feel a tail. Kaden wasn't able to perform a full transformation due to his last attack so he was doubly confused.

The young man laughed hysterically as he flipped once through the vacuum of space. This was incredible. Unable to fully grasp what was happening. However, he did understand one thing. With Mana, one could breathe in outer space as if there was oxygen.

"No fucking way." He said both in disbelief and wonder.

He then looked over to the young man who had tried to kill him not so long ago. Kaden made a decision. For better or for worse he would somehow save Rygilya.

Kaden felt as if he took a step forward and to his surprise, he felt as though something solid was under him. This was definitely something that was not taught in the universities.

The young Knight shoved his feelings of amazement to the back of his mind before taking one large leap, using his tail to push away any debris of the destroyed ship.

He reached out to touch Rygilya. He grabbed the Darkness Tamer's arm and a thick cloud of darkness engulfed them both before solidifying around them.

Kaden couldn't see Lore anymore. Not only was the planet gone from sight, but the many stars that doted the darkness around them were now gone too.

It's just like that day. Kaden thought as he remembered the first time Darqus lent him power.

Well, spoke an unfamiliar voice inside his mind. Not exactly.

Panic that threatened to rise in him when he realized he was no longer in control of his body. This voice did not belong to Darqus.

I can see why you would panic, Kaden. The voice said, reading the Knight's emotions. Rest assured, I have always been here, my son.

Suddenly Kaden saw a figure. The figure sat with an arm resting on it's knee. The figure seem to draw closer to Kaden until he could see it clearly.

A man that looked to be in his late thirties grinned at Kaden. Amusement shining in his dark brown eyes. The man had deep smile lines and light crows feet.

Iris must have put you through hell if Darqus lent you his power. The man said. Well done surviving that woman. What of Kariah-Belle?

Kaden didn't respond. Today had been one event after another. The young man couldn't wrap his brain arou-

Son? Kaden asked. Did you just call me son?

The man nodded. You're my kid, alright.

Many emotions bombarded Kaden at once. Joy, confusion, anger and betrayal all slamming together inside of him.

Tears rolled down his cheeks.

Fucking old man! Kaden snapped. You left me! You left US!

Kaden wasn't thinking rationally anymore.

This entire time Kariah-Belle thought you were dead! But you've been hiding this entire time! Why are you just now making this known!? Huh?!

The man gave Kaden a sympathetic smile. I'm sorry, Kaden. I died the day Memphis attacked. What you're seen now is my life force manifested. I have stored it in you the day you were created for an occasion such a this. I am not able to speak with you until you are able to weild Darqus's power and use it for love.

For love? Kaden questioned, his rage now forgotten. I don't-

Realization dawned on him and the man who was his father laughed. Corny I know, but it seems to me like you reached out to protect a friend.

We're not friends. Not anymore. Kaden thought back.

Yet I feel admiration and loyalty for this young man. My best friend ended up putting a sword through my chest. Tell me my son, will you save your former comrade knowing one day he might do the same?

Kaden thought for a moment. The memories of he and Rygilya played in his mind. The training sessions, the missions, all the fun and adventures they had together. Then he thought of the times Rygilya had tried to kill he and Aya.

Yes. The Knight said bluntly. I'll save him here so I can beat some sense into him later.

The man laughed. And if that doesn't work.

I'll kill him myself. Kaden stated bluntly.

The older man studied Kaden for a bit. If he could read his heart then Kaden knew the man would find no lie in his words.

The man smiled and nodded. Very well my son. I shall give you the power needed to save your friend.

Kaden felt his body move but he was not in control.

Old man? Kaden started.

I am in control for the time being. He answered. After this my son, you will not hear from me for some time. His eyes held pride as he now stood in front of Kaden. He placed a hand on the young man's head and continued. I am so proud of you my son. You're mother would be, too. Keep your sister safe. We love you both.

Suddenly Kaden felt his body clutch Rygilya's firmly. Black lightning crackled around them and a few seconds later, the two entered Lore's atmosphere.

He was falling and coming in fast. As he drew closer to the planets surface, he saw snow all around. He noticed that bits of armor was falling of as sailed through a cloud.

It was then that he noticed he had control over his body again. He yelled as he and Rygilya fell like a commet. Flames ignited around them.

The two slammed through a large mountain of snow and hit the ground so hard, a crater formed. Kaden's eyes began to feel heavy just as he heard a familiar voice boom in his mind.

Damn you human! Shouted Darqus. You've ruined everything! Curse you and your kind! I will slaughter you all.

Kaden coughed up blood as he lay in a pile of snow. His head ponded and his body was incredibly weak. Darqus kept shouting in his mind.

Through his blurry vision he saw a white beastly figure loom over him. Saliva oozing from it's massive jaws as it glared. It's eyes held rage and hunger. Kaden tried to move but he couldn't. His body didn't have the strength. If he tried to use mana he would surely die.

The beast opened it's massive jaw as it dipped it's head to bite off Kaden's.

A black blur tackled the beast. Kaden had just enough strength to move his head to see Rygilya taking on large white monsterous bear-like creatures before everything went black.
