Chapter 14 A deal with devils

Iris Eloclipse was riding in a hover rover. She was searching for any Vymiri she could find. Her heart beat with uncertainty more and more each second. She was nervous her plan may not work. She managed to convinced two Divine Knights to sneak out of Atlantis with her.

If the council wouldn't make a truce with the Vymiri then she would do it herself.

But what could they do? If the Primordial, the thing Memphis was afraid of was such vast life force, was still around, then they would all be doomed.

"Look!" pointed one of the Knights. "There's Dracula's crystal city."

Iris took in the ruins. She had been the one to lead the raid on Dracula's castle. They had rescued Kariah-Belle and freed many captives that day. Iris had no idea how she would handle negotiating with Vympiri. Still, she had to try. She knew they would be powerful allies against the Darkness Champions.

They got out to walk once they got closer. The city was in poor shape. Debris littered the streets. Buildings were destroyed. Vympiri stared at them with hungry eyes. They looked like they wanted to attack but didn't have the energy.

"You!" Screamed one Vympiri. Iris recognized her. She was one of Dracula's Royal Guard. "What are you doing here!?"

"We come in peace." Iris was calm. One wrong move and they'd have a horde of Vympiri to deal with. "We only wish to ask you to aid us against the Darkness."

"The Darkness?" She repeated. Realization dawned on her. "Yes. I've heard about them. They attack one of our cities just yesterday."

"So we do have a common enemy. Let's work together on this."

The Vympiri snorted. "Not on your life. You killed our lord. If I could I'd kill you where you stand but I've seen your power. If we fought now we'd kill each other. My people still need me."

"The best way to take care of your people is to ally yourself with us." Iris urged. "The Darkness will destroy you and your kind. Is that what you want?"

The Vympiri thought for a moment. "What's the catch?"

"There is no catch. A full-on treaty." Iris reassured.

"Fine. I am acting as leader for all Vympiri until a true replacement can be found. I'll represent my people."

"Very well. Come with us."

The Vympiri motioned for two of the of her kind to follow her. They hurried to her back.

"Lady Remi," one began. "Are you sure they can be trusted?"

"No, but she's right. We Vympiri don't stand a chance against the Darkness alone."

Later the group of humans and Vympiri made it to Atlantis. The whole ride, Remi never took her eyes off Iris. Once they left the rover, Knights swarmed around them confused and afraid.

"Whats this Iris?!" one said. "You've let those things in here!"

There were murmurs of protest and outrage.

"Calm down," Iris told them. "They are here to help us."

"Help us? After what we did to their home? Their lord? Yeah right. You've given them the opportunity for their revenge!"

"Listen, human," Remi spoke. "I do want revenge but my people come first. With the Darkness up there the best bet for our survival is allying with you pieces of filth."

"We need them just as much as they need us," Iris added.

The Knights were reluctant but most backed off. A few were still very wary of the Vympiri. Iris didn't blame them. Vympiri are the number one enemies of humanity.

Iris led the Vympiri through the underground city. They marveled at its majesty.

"How did you humans manage to make something like this?" Remi asked.

"This was here long before any of us were born," Iris answered.

Iris noticed Knights trailing them closely. The Vympiri were on edge.

"They won't attack unless you give them a reason to," said Iris. "So don't."

Eventually, the group came upon the chamber where the Supreme Council holds their meetings. When they walked inside the members of the council gasped.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Councilman Bylin looked as if he would blow a gasket.

"Iris I told you that we would not be teaming up with any more of our enemies!" councilwoman Berceil shouted.

The council erupted in protest but Iris simply took a seat.

"Explain yourself." said councilman Raphiel.

"It's simple," Iris began. "We need help. We can't defeat the Darkness on our own but with the added numbers of the Vympiri, we may stand a chance."

The council talked amongst themselves.

"What say you Vympiri." said a councilwoman.

"I say I hate humans but I love my people more. I want them to survive. Whatever gripe we have, can be put aside for a later date."

The council bickered with each other. Councilman Raphiel and a few others wanted a truce with the Vympiri. The rest thought they were too dangerous.

"Looks like it comes down to a vote," said councilman Raphiel. "All in favor of a treaty with the Vympiri."

He raised his hand and so did four others.

"All who oppose." he lowered his hand as three council members raised theirs. "So it's settled. A temporary peace treaty will be put in place between humans and Vympiri. May Kul help us all."
