Chapter 12: Broken
"Away, from you." Caroline replied rudely.
"And where would you like to go alone in the town you barely know?"
"Anywhere, but not with you."
"You're coming with me, Now." He said with the authority he always had over her.
"I'm no more your prisoner, remember?"Caroline glared. "I am free now. I can go wherever I think I fit."
Klaus stared then took a sharp breath. "You know even after saving my unborn child a moment ago, I'm still going through countless emotions and I don't have much appetite left to argue with you. So, come with me."
He barely took a step at her when she screamed. "No!" Her reluctance surprised Klaus. "Was that easy? To hurt someone's else child? Was that easy to think about someone you love while hurting a who means the world to someone else?"
"I know you're new to this world, Catoline but this is how it is. You'd meet people like me. There is no easy way."
"Then I can't be part of your world. It hurts to even think what I saw in there." She cried.
"You knew what you were getting into ."
She sniffed, wiping a tear. "Yes. And I regret now. I was too engrossed in your world that I forgot this was exactly why I'm like this. Why I ended up here, with you."
"You're in shock, Caroline." Klaus kept his pain aside. "I was out of options back there," Klaus fireback. " My child could've died."
Caroline sighed, wiping the remaining tears. "I understand the situation and I too care for Hayley and your child. More so, I know you have a good side in you, Klaus but I can't ignore the bigger picture. Memories or no memories atleast I know what humanity is. And using force or fear is not a way to get your things done. I can never be someone like you no matter what."
Klaus looked away first to hide how hurt he was. The distance between them seemed to magnify. "You want to stay away. Fine! But now is not the time. It's too late and dangerous. I can't leave you alone. Just Stay for one more night. Do as you please tomorrow."
"I can take care of myself. I have to." She turned back again. "Trust me on this and don't follow me"

The compound was occupied by Valentine and Thierry who arrived after a quick glance at the quarter.
"Klaus has been making big moves behind our back, Val. I already warned you about him." Thierry said.
"And it's all waste until I have Davina." He replied without any worry, pouring themselves a drink early in the morning.
"Marcel once talked about Klaus and told me to never underestimate him. I'm sure if he were alive today he would be more cautious."
Valentine's face grew angrier.
"You still aren't over that traitor Marcel?"
Theirry resonsed in negative. " I'm just concerned and chriious on why did you even invite Klaus and his sister to the party?'
"Because they are people tp be intrested about." He replied. "Among all of us, they unkillable. No matter gow big our army is. We will fall short for them. The party was an invitation fo negotion and alliance."
"But aren't we still on neck to neck?"
He nodded his head. "We are. But we have a advantage."
Their conversation was interrupted and Valentine slammed his glass away at the timing. He neither was in any mood to meet another official of New Orleans nor to stop a rookie fight if any had broken inside the clique.
Interestingly, it was a culprit Diego had caught.
"Looks have we have a good news." Valentine remarked.
Diego agreed. "He's been seen talking to Klaus Mikealson last night. His very own little bitch."
Valentine frowned and got up.
"It's that true, Tyler?"
"No, it's not. I wasn't there. I was at my place last night." Tyler acted as realistic as he could.
A vampire popped up between the conversation.
"He's lying, valentine. I saw him delivering a boy to Klaus." He informant stepped up, showing a picture on his phone of Klaus, Tyler and Tim at the alley.
"That's the boy." The vampire said.
"Looks like Klaus got his hand on Davina." Valentine murmured, his voice deadly. His eyes landed on the spy. "Bury him in the dungeon."
....
Caroline woke up in the church after the tolling bell crushed her sleep. Yawning she glanced around as the events of the last night bounced back, reminding her how she ended up in the church.
The tempered argument with Klaus made her a little embarrased. She couldn't guess how much of her words had hurt Klaus in the heat of the moment.
A sudden movement made her gasp and she relaxed after finding Elijah next to her, wearning a decent suit. He had a calm composure and was busy admiring the interior of the buildng.
"Elijah, what are you doing here?"
He smiled, returning his attention ar her. "I just came to check up on you."
"Did Klaus send you?"
"No, he just told me about your departure."
"How did you find me?"
Confidently, he answered. "Supernatural senses and a little guesswork."
Caroline smiled. "Thank you for checking up on me. But really, I'm fine."
"That I don't doubt." He said. "However, there is a debt to be returned."
"A debt what?"
"I owe you a thank you, I suppose." Elijah nodded as Caroline looked on, seeming confused. "Hayley told me about you and your trip with Klaus and of course, your successful efforts for my release."
"I didn't think he would consider half of what I said."
Elijah pulled out a bunch of papers and a key. "Whatever you said seems to work on my favour. Consider it a thank you gift." He handed both of the things over. "It's the key to your new apartment."
She was taken aback.
"You've been caught in our family for a month now. Let me make it up to you by helping you." Elijah said in persuasion.
Caroline stared at the key, thinking if it would be okay or not to accept it. Last night after departing from Klaus, she realised she had no plans for her life. Neither she did have money nor someone who was close and human. At the end, she came in the church and slept right away.
Hesitatingly, she accepted the key.
"Thank you".
"I'll take it as you're welcome." Elijah noted. "The apartment is in your name. This paper contains the deed, bank accounts, and your cards."
"Elijah, that's too much. I can't take this." Caroline complained.
"Actually, you do." He assured her. "When you're happily settled, repay me if my help bothered you that much."
Caroline looked at the papers for a bit. She couldn't deny the fact that she needed them. Atleast for the time being. Rolling it away, she asked him. "Umm, did you forgive Klaus for daggering you?"
Elijah got up, checking up for any creases on his suit. "He's on probation for the time being. Something like you're doing with him."
Caroline almost laughed. "I don't think so. He's your brother. Your blood. You being mad at him makes sense. But me, all I need is time and space."
"That is understandle." He agreed. "But I also wish you to understand what Klaus did last night was the only solution."
She nodded in agreement. "I'd be lying if I said I don't."
"Then I guess my work here is done," Elijah slipped his hands into his pocket. "Until then, take care."
Caroline nodded as Elijah walked out ofthe church. She could understand why Hayley talked so fondly of him. He was quite the type to be adored.
Sighing, she looked again at the key and papers and then keep it inside her jacket's pocket. Caroline was about to go when her eyes fell on the attic stairs. She stood still for a few second— debating to meet Davina or not. She then took a deep breath and said to herself.
"Come on, Caroline. You're going to start a new life. Why don't you start with apologizing for someone whom you've hurt?" Saying so, she went upstairs.
As expected, Davina was outraged to see her. Her expressions had said it all and Caroline was sensing a blow of magic at her any time.
"Before you do any of your witch stuff, I want you to hear me out once." Caroline muttered.
"And why should I?" Davina growled, getting ready for the revenge.
"I'm not here to hurt you, I'm here to apologize." She quickly explained, partially scared.
"You and Klaus manipulated me by using someone I love." Davina remarked.
Caroline came inside and said. "I'm so so sorry for what I did. I can explain it."
Davina stopped for a second, scrutinising her with a long stare. "You're human?" She speculated and Caroline nodded.
"Yes and I'm not a bad person. It was the situation that made me a bad." Caroline told her. "Truth to be told, I'm somewhere between I don't know who I'm or what I'm doing or why I came here like that. My life is a mess and all I think is how to set everything back at its place."
"I don't get what you're trying to say." Davina was atleast less angry. "And why the hell were you with Klaus? Were you compelled?"
"Compelled yes, but not by him. It's just some freaky and untold reason on how I was dragged between the Mikealsons." She said. "But now its me and my life."
"So what are you doing here?"
"To ask for forgiveness." She said. "Last night, it was too much. I couldn't handle the pressure of supernatural world. I was hoping start a new life bgu apologising to you first."
"I don't know if I should trust you," davina stated.
"I'm not asking for you to trust me." Caroline said. "But if you think I'm worthy of your forgiveness then please forgive me."
Davina sat on the bed, thinking as caroline stood near the door, patiently waiting. She knew what she was steeping into so even if Davina refused to forgive her, she would walk away and would ignore her to avoid Davina from remembering the pain she had endured last night.
Seconds later, Davina shot up from bed and moved to the small table consisting of small drawers.
"You said you were compelled, isn't it?" She asked.
Caroline agreed. "Yeah but I don't remember the person who did it. Infact I wasn't even aware of witch, vampires and hybrid. My life turned upside down after that."
Davina pulled one drawer and collected a bracelet. She then walked to her. "This is a vervain bracelet and it's enchanted with a spell. No one can take it off except you. So wear it all the time.
Caroline was puzzled at her kind offer. "This is for me?"
"Yea." She confirmed. "And if we met again and I didn't feel like boiling your blood, consider I'd forgiven you."
They both smiled.
Delighted, Caroline came downstairs, feeling relieved as Davina considered to forgive her. She came near Jesus, bowing down in front of him and lit a few candles. After she was done, she searched the direction of her apartment in her phone and resumed walking toward the exit.
Just then, entered a tall brunette with stoic looks on his face. His hair was sleaking to back and his strides were longer.
He almost had a confident look that reminded her of Klaus. Ignoring the urge to not stare much, they ended up exchanging glance.
Caroline felt a little strange, searching her mind if she ever knew this man or was it all a plain illusion of her mind.
Quietly they both walked past eachother with Caroline leaving the church while Valentine speeding toward the attic.
He couldn't help his smrik.
