Trust me
The paladins were in the heat of battle. The castle was under attack. Keith was with lance in the blue lion hangar.
"Keith we have to go now!" Lance yelled at his lover, his eyes peering into the fear filled violet ones of Keith.
"Lance no! We can't! It's not safe!"
Lance sighed. "Do you trust me?" Keith quickly nodded.
"Of course I do! What does that have to do with anyth-" lance cut Keith off mid sentence.
"Then turn around and run, and whatever you do don't look back." Lance said seriously.
"O-okay?" Keith would do anything lance asked, but what he did next was a mistake.
Keith turned around and ran, not looking back. He thought lance was following him...
He was wrong.
Lance closed the hangar door behind him, getting into his lion and fighting off the Galra on his own.
"I trust you to save the universe." He mumbled, tears falling down his face as he looked down at his left hand, smiling sadly as the diamond engagement ring shown on his hand.
Keith had proposed a few months ago, but they were waiting to return to earth to get married. He had picked up the ring at the space mall, and surprised lance with it. It was the happiest moment of their lives.
As soon as Keith turned around to see lance not around he instantly ran back to the hangar at full speed, not stopping until she reached the door and banged on it. "Lance! Lance please!" But he was already gone.
Keith knew lance was outnumbered out there, at least a thousand Galra fighter planes out there against him.

Keith had been searching for nearly an hour now, trying to find lance. He was in the red lion, looking around desperately for Blue.
After an hour of searching, he finally spotted the metallic lion and landed, getting out of Red and sprinting to the lion, crying out for his fiancé.
Keith quickly pulled lance out, the lion not functioning, but Keith saw a terrible sight. Lance had blood stained on his forehead and mouth. He wasn't breathing and his body was cold. His helmet's glass was shattered. He had a lifeless expression on his face.
"No! No no no lance please no!" Keith cried, hugging his lifeless body close. "Please don't leave me here alone I need you please!"
Keith cried, "we were gonna go home. We were supposed to get married and have a happy life back on earth please wake up lance."
Keith sat there for what seemed like an eternity, trying to bring lance back to him. He failed. He then noticed something.
Lance had a thumb drive in his left hand. Keith grabbed it before calling the others for help.

Pidge had lent Keith her computer so he could see what was on this mystery thumb drive. Once he pulled up the file there was a video clip there with his name on it. He clicked on it.
"Hey there Samurai!" Keith jumped as the video popped up. It was lance, no more than a week ago.
"If you're watching this then something went wrong and I'm no longer with you, which sucks for both of us, I know. I miss you SO MUCH!! But the reason I made this video isn't for you to mourn my death or what not! I made this video so you can still have me around even when I'm gone. It's like I never left, right?" Keith watched as lance smiled.
Tears rolled down Keith's face as he covered his mouth, hiding the small noises leaving him.
"I want you to know that I love you, Keith. I love you a lot. You mean the world to me." Lance showed his ring to the camera. "You gave me this two days ago and that's when I decided I was gonna do this. Now if we didn't make it back to earth, I'm sorry. You had such big plans for us when we got back, didn't you?" Lance chuckled.
"Now if we did make it back, congrats!" Lance smiled brightly and clapped, "you and I are so happy together and I hope our life is absolutely amazing!"
Keith continued to cry, staring back into the eyes of the boy he had fallen desperately in love with, and he had lost all because of trust.
"Keith, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to leave you. I love you so so much. You mean absolutely everything to me, Mullet." Lance smiled sweetly.
Soon the video ended, and so did Keith's sanity.

Keith had become the worst he ever could. Once they made it back to earth Keith started drinking, and smoking. He even started popping pills.
Lance had been his world, and now he had nothing to live for.
One night Keith went into the bathroom of the house he was living in with Shiro and grabbed the prescription bottle of antidepressants Shiro insisted he get. He took every pill in the bottle.
"I trusted you lance, and I love you. Which is why I'm gonna join you, not even death will part us, my love." He spoke through tears before his vision blurred and he fell onto the floor.
And then he fell into an eternal sleep that he'd never wake from.
All because of trust.
