TW: suicidal thoughts, suicide

Keith smiled as he walked down the halls. Lance and Keith hadn't started dating but had been being very flirty with each other the past few months. Keith was finally gonna do it. He was gonna ask lance to date him.

Keith had a small ring in the palm of his hand, a promise ring. He rounded the corner and walked towards the corridor where he had told lance to meet him, but lance wasn't there.

Keith frowned and started looking for him. Then his life changed forever.

Lance ran up to Keith, with Allura following. They were both smiling like idiots.

"Keith, buddy! I have great news!" Lance grabbed allura's hand and smiled. "Allura and I are dating!"

Keith faked a light smile. "That's great! I'm happy for you guys.."

"Hey, wasn't there something you wanted to talk about?" Lance asked. Keith shook his head

"No, it wasn't important." He then turned around and walked away.

He then walked outside, seeing Shiro. Shiro was the only one that knew about Keith's plans.

"Hey, keith! How'd it go?" Shiro smiled brightly.

Then Keith finally broke. He started to cry. Shiro instantly got concerned and hugged him.

"H-he's with Allura n-now." Keith cried. He had never felt so vulnerable and lost.

Keith then pulled away from the hug and pulled out the promise ring, clutching it right in his hand before throwing it far away from him. Shiro sighed.

"Keith, I'm sorry. But, if they're happy you should be happy for them." This only made Keith more upset, because he thought he was selfish now.

He ran away from Shiro, to where he was currently staying. He went into his bathroom and pulled out his blade.

For the next few weeks Keith pretended to be happy, faking smiles and pretending that he wasn't crying himself to sleep at night.

Shiro didn't notice, nobody did, not even lance. Lance had been his rival, his best friend, and even his love interest, until that day where Keith realized.

Him and lance simply were not meant to be.

Nobody noticed Keith's pain. Lance and Allura eventually got married, and that was the day Keith's pain got noticed. Keith attended the wedding, and afterwards told lance about that day. He then went silent completely.

Lance would come to check on Keith to make sure he was okay after noticing Keith's scars. But after a while, he stopped coming. Keith assumed it was because he simply didn't care anymore.

And then eventually, Keith gave up. He downed a bottle of antidepressants lance had once insisted he took. 35 pills all at once. Keith then wrote down on a piece of paper.

          We simply were not meant to be.
