Some kind of magic (AU)
Woo this ones a wee bit longer, enjoy.
Lance sighed as he walked through the woods to the town he was requested in. In this world that used to be thriving with magic wizards were now hard to come by. The king about 8 years before ordered they all be killed, but a small number of wizards survived until his rain was violently brought to an end.
Lance was one of them.
And ever since their numbers were dwindled people have been flooding the few remaining ones with requests. So that's where Lance was headed now.
He arrived at the town and saw a young girl in a long flowing dress walking trough the cobbled streets. He was half tempted to flirt with her, but decided to put it off, he was here in business after all.
"Excuse me." He approached her. "Could you point me in the direction of the mayor's house?"
"That depends." She replied smiling slightly. "Who's asking."
"Lance McClain, I'm the wizard he requested." He responded.
"Oh of course!" She replied. "Pardon me, but the mayor is my husband so I had to be sure you weren't here to harm him. Follow me."
"Of course." I replied. Yeesh good thing I didn't flirt with her... he followed behind her.

"Dear, the other wizard you requested has arrived." The woman announced as she and Lance walked into the large mayors office.
Other? Lance wondered to himself.
"Ah Lance, perfect timing." The mayor stood from his desk. "This is Keith Kogan, he'll be assisting you on this mission. It's a pretty big job for one, so I figured it'd be safer to have two wizards."
Suddenly a boy only slightly shorter in stature stood from one of the chairs facing the mayors desk and turned around. "It's a pleasure to meet you." He said, but didn't really seem to mean it, because his tone sounded bored and he had a permanent scowl on his face.
Lance felt himself staring at the fair skinned boy, with dark hair styled in a mullet, and dressed in red attired. "U-uh, yeah same to you!" He stuttered out after feeling he'd been silently staring a little too long.
"Great now that you've met please be seated while I explain the quest." The mayor instructed.

It was later that day and after traveling to their location for a good amount of hours Lance and Keith were setting up camp for the night in the forest.
There had been little to no talking the entire journey so far. Any attempt Lance would make would be quickly shot down by Keith.
They had their bedrolls positioned and a stack of wood in the middle of them.
Keith raised his hand and a flame formed in it making it easy for him to light the fire.
Lance widened his eyes. "You're a fire wizard?"
"Yeah, what about it?" Keith asked glancing over to him.
"Nothing..." Lance replied. "You know, back when King Ganton announced the decree to kill all wizards. A group of fire mages betrayed their kind and worked with him to murder their people... you wouldn't happen to know anything about that would you?"
Suddenly Keith was stomping over to Lance. He grabbed the collar of his blue uniform roughly and slammed him against a tree. He moved his face super close to Lance's, his eyes threatening. "King Ganton is the reason why my family is dead! Even for you to imply that I'd ever be in league with him is unspeakable!"
"Alright! Okay calm down... I'm sorry..." Lance put his hands up in surrender.
Keith let go but continued to glare. "Whatever, you're a stranger anyway. We just need to do this job, and then we'll never have to cross paths again." He then got into his bedroll and went back to completely ignoring Lance as he pretended to sleep.
"This... is gonna be a long couple of days..." Lance trailed off with a sigh.
-&-
They were now making their way through thicker part of the woods the next day, although you couldn't quite tell it was day, because the trees made it dark and fairly hard to see. Lance had to stick close to Keith considering his flames where their only source of light.
"We just need to get through these woods, and then the mountains, and we can find the artifact we're looking for." Lance explained following the map they were given to a tee.
There was a noise in the distance so he stopped, making Keith stop as well.
"What was that?" Lance asked trying to keep his voice from shaking.
"Probably nothing." Keith replied emotionlessly.
"Are you sure?" The darker male asked looking around.
"You're just imagining it because we're in a dark forest." Keith rolled his eyes looking over his shoulder at the map.
"LOOK OUT!" Lance placed a hand on Keith's back and shoved him down while also ducking, before a large long tail flew above them, almost smacking them to the ground.
Suddenly a large monster broke through the forest, knocking down a few trees as it roared loudly.
"Is that a Dragon?!" Lance exclaimed getting back up into fighting stance.
"Looks like it!" Keith yelled like it was obvious.
They had to jump apart to avoid the flames it blew from its large mouth. It set a few trees around on fire, but they weren't complaining since it lit up their battle ground.
Keith formed a large amount of fire in his hands and blasted it at the monster, but it's tough scales made it so it had no effect.
"How are we supposed to pierce through those, they're stronger than metal?!" Lance asked in obvious frustration.
"I don't know, give me a minute!" Keith replied.
"Ah!" Lance dodged a big clawed hand that scratched toward him, but ended up stumbling to his knees. "We don't have a minute!" He started to stand, but not fast enough.
"Lance!" Keith ran over and tackled them both out of the way, just in time to avoid another fiery breath.
Lance panted on the ground looking to him partner next to him. "Thanks."
"Don't thank me yet." Keith replied. "I have an idea, but it will only stun him for a few seconds."
"A few seconds is all I need." Lance replied.
Before they could say anything else they had to jump apart again to avoid another swipe of the dragons hand.
They dodged and Kieth waited for the perfect moment.
The dragon opened to mouth to breath more fire.
This was it.
Keith quickly formed another large amount of flames and shot it into the dragon's mouth, skillfully.
The beast stumbled back a bit, seeming slightly hurt and confused.
"Lance!" Keith signaled.
"Got it!" Lance waved his hands making a very large amount of water form in the air around them. He moved it to surround the dragon, before waving his hands again, causing it to freeze, and the beast to be left still in a solid block of ice.
"Nice." Keith said sounding semi-impressed.
"Why thank you." Lance smiled smugly, crossing his arms and looking proud of himself.
Keith started walking forward. "We should probably put out these fires and then-AH!" He suddenly screamed as the ground beneath him began to cave in on itself.
"Keith!" Lance quickly sprinted into action and caught the boy's arm before he fell into the newly revealed deep cavern.
Keith looked down at the large drop, with the sharpe rocks at the bottom and shivered a bit.
Lance used his strength to pull him up from the sink hole and safely back on land. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine..." Keith said letting out a breath. He then notice how close they were sitting and Lance was staring into his eyes deeply with slight concern. He found himself noticing how attractive the other male really was, He felt a small amount of warmth rise to his cheeks, and couldn't help but look away to the side. "I um... guess we're even now."
Lance chuckled at that. "I guess we are."
-&-
"It's freezing." Keith complained rubbing his hands together and keeping a small flame near. He had to have his voice raised over the sound of the icy winds.
"Well we are in the mountains." Lance pointed out.
Keith growled. "How much more do we have to travel?"
"A bit of ways." Lance replied, he began to pant as they trekked up. "We could get there early tomorrow morning...if we continue to travel... at this rate... and-" he suddenly fell onto the snowy ground.
"Lance?" Keith hurried over to him kneeling down.
Lance was struggling to sit up. "I... I-I'm fine..."
Keith frowned. "We've been traveling all day, and you used a lot of magic earlier, we should stop and set up camp."
"That would set us off by hours..." Lance shook his head. "I'm fine, really..."
"You're exhausted, plus the wind's picking up, neither of us should be traveling in these conditions. The storm should be over by sunrise. We need to find shelter." Keith tried to reason with him.
"Fine..." Lance said reluctantly pulling out the map. They both had to hold it in order to read it without the corners flapping over. "There's a cave up there and to the right." He pointed.
"Alright, let's go." Keith grabbed lances hand to help him up.
Both of them pulled away quickly, looking at each other with wide eyes, as they felt a spark go through their finger tips, and up through their body.
They were left confused considering neither of them used lightning magic.
Keith then shook his head clearing his throat. "Sorry." He stood helping the darker skinned male to his feet, and they began the short walk to the cave, ignoring what happened.
-&-
Lance was taking a breather as Keith laid out his sleeping bag. The cave was a little warmer, but only because they were out of the wind, other then that it was still frigid air.
Lance then grabbed his own sleeping bag.
Keith got in and laid down, wrapping the cloth tight around him, but he was still left shivering. He tried to sleep despite it. His eyes widened when he felt Lance lay down directly next to him. So close they were actually touching. He flipped around violently, thinking it a bad idea when he was suddenly nose to nose with his partner. He was glad the dark hid his blush. "What are you doing?"
"Getting ready to sleep." Lance replied casually. "Look I've lived in cold climates my whole life, and I can tell you that sleeping bag won't cut it. If you don't want to freeze to death tonight we need to stay close for warmth."
Keith wanted to debate, but his shivering would have probably given him away, so he just turned onto his back reluctantly. "Fine... but don't get any ideas."
"Of course not, who do you think I am?" Lance teased before scotching a bit closer. "Hey Keith..."
"Yeah?" The fire wizard asked sounding semi annoyed.
"Sorry for accusing you of working with the King earlier..." He apologized sincerely.
There was a small amount of time before Keith responded. "It's fine, it happens all the time..."
Lance yawned his eyes dropping. "But it shouldn't... you aren't that kind of person..."
"How do you know?" Keith asked.
Lance closed his eyes. "I just... do..." He really was exhausted, he immediately fell asleep.
Silence took over the cave, leaving the whistling wind outside the only noise, as Kieth too drifted off a small smile on his face.
-&-
Lance yawned and slowly blinked awake the next morning to see the ceiling of the cave, on the now dimly lit area.
"Hm?" He looked down to see Keith still asleep. He had shifted to his side, and had one arm laid out against Lance's chest, and the other tightly clung to his waist. Lance blushed slightly realizing his own right arm was around Keith as well. He's so freaking warm!
"Mm..." Keith mumbled slightly crinkling his face together as his body twitched. His eyes then slowly opened, and a groggy look took over his expression.
And cute... Lance! Stop it! This is work! The water wizard argued with himself internally.
Once Keith grew aware of what he was doing he quickly let go and shot up. "S-s-s-sorry." He didn't even let Lance speak before quickly staring to gather his things. "Come on the storm is over we need to get moving." He left the cave.
Lance sighed gathering his things, and meeting him outside the entrance. "Man Keith you're so hard headed I wouldn't expect you to be such a cuddler in your sleep."
Keith felt his face go hot, and it wasn't the morning sun. "Sh-shut up! I was cold!"
"Maybe, but then why were you holding on so tightly?" Lance raised his eyebrow not giving up with his teasing. He couldn't help it, he'd been holding back on his flirting game for too long.
"I wasn't!" Keith debated.
"Were too, you were like a baby monkey latching on to her mother." Lance smirked at him.
"Was not, you're making things up to feed your own fantasies." Keith turned away crossing his arms.
"That's pretty bold to accuse me of having fantasies when we only met a few day ago." The water mage pointed out.
"Yeah well..." Keith trailed off. "Don't expect me to apologize...."
"Oh no." Lance replied. "After all I didn't say you were wrong." He let his hand snake around his partner's waist.
Keith felt his innocent blush blaze up to his ears. He turned around to try and punch him, but Lance caught his first mid swing.
He laughed. "Calm down I'm only messing with you." He then pulled him closer winking. "No need to go all red flame boy."
"Ah!" Kieth tried to lift his leg to kick him, but ended up slipping in the snow and they were both sent tumbling down the small incline of the mountain.
They finally stopped, and Lance, who was lying on top of the fire mage, was laughing hysterically, as he pushed himself up slightly to hover above. "You're not used to being flirted with are you? So sensitive."
"Sorry to disappoint." Keith scowled.
Lance let his laughter subside. "You didn't."
Keith found himself at a loss for words as he stared up at the boy close above him in awe.
The two were lost in each other's eyes.
Lance leaned closer down, so their noses were now hardly hovering away from each other, their hot breaths mixing in the cool air between them.
Keith suddenly shivered amongst the snow.
Lance chuckled and rolled off of him. "Alright we really should keep moving."
He started to stand up, but was suddenly grabbed and tackled back down again. He widened his eyes as Keith crawled on top of him and pressed his lips onto Lance's.
Lance was in obvious shock at first, but then leaned up and kissed back, looping both arms around Keith's waist.
Keith pulled away for a second, and they both took a breath before Lance connected their lips again kissing him with passion, but softly. It felt like an eternity before they pulled away in need of a proper amount of oxygen.
"I guess you're not used to you're flirting working..." Keith stated.
Lance gave a small laugh at that. "Guess not."
-&-
It was a few days later, and the two boys had gotten the artifact, and gave it to the old mayor, with a great amount of work I might add.
He was very grateful and payed them both handsomely.
Now Kieth and Lance were leaving the town walking hand in hand through the forest.
"So Keith, how about it?" Lance asked. "You want to officially become partners?"
"That depends." Keith relied. "Only if I can be your boyfriend too."
Lance smiled leaning over and pecking him on the lips. "I guess we have a deal."
Keith chuckled. "I guess we do."
And they lived on happily to go on many more adventures, fight many more battles, and grow stronger with their magic, always together.
Hey guys, okay yeah cheesy ending cause I couldn't find out how to end it lol. I hope you liked this longer oneshot. I have many a more unfinished drafts waiting so don't worry. Also if you'd like to leave requests feel free! Vote and comment, bye!
