A Very Corona Date
Lance put the keys in the ignition and Keith plugged his phone into the aux cord. The park wasn't far away but they didn't feel like walking. They pulled up and there was a sign.
PARK CLOSED
"Damn." Lance said, backing out. "What do you want to do?"
Keith shrugged. "Maybe there will be another park."
They drove a half mile down
NOTICE: DISTRICT PARKS CLOSED BY ORDER OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
The boys decided to cut their losses and just head home.
"I'm going to take a nap." Keith said, unlocking the door and pushing it open.
"'Kay." Lance said, walking into the kitchen. An hour passed. "Keeeeeeeeeith!"
Keith woke up and rubbed his eyes- a successful power nap.
"What?" He walked out of their room and saw Lance sitting on a stool he moved to the other side of the island counter. There was a scented candle lit and a hot pocket on a plate.
"Welcome to your fancy date." Lance said. "Today on the menu is pizza hot pockets and a glass of orange juice to cleanse the pallet."
Keith smiled. "Thanks, Lance."
He sat down and they had conversations about what to do if the coronavirus turned into a zombie pandemic. They decided that they would eat hot pockets and watch Netflix until they eventually succumbed to starvation or were bit. Cheery date conversation, you know?
"Hey- wanna see if Pidge's dog wants to go on a walk?" Lance asked. "We need a dog."
Keith thought for a second. "Okay- so this is crazy but..."
"Yes?" Lance prodded.
"Why don't we just adopt a dog? I mean, our lease lets us have two dogs, we're financially stable and we like to go on walks together."
Lance laughed. "You're out of your mind, mullet."
Keith grinned. "I'm serious. Let's go."
"Do you think the animal shelter will even be open?" Lance asked.
Keith shrugged. "I'll call."
They pulled up the number of the closest shelter- about 6 miles away. Someone picked up the line.
"Hello, you've reached the Animal Welfare League of Altea. This is Riley speaking."
Lance and Keith looked at each other. "Um, hi. My boyfriend and I are looking to adopt a dog... are you open?"
He could hear the smile in her voice. "A lot of dogs have been adopted recently. If you come over today you'll have a broader choice for dogs."
Keith smiled. "So you're open?"
"Technically it's by appointment becuase of the virus but I'm here to feed the dogs so if you want to come over in the next hour or so, I can let you in."
"That would be great." Keith said. Lance was pulling up directions on his phone and held it in front od Keith's face- it was a 20 minute drive. "We'll be there within the next hour for sure." He hung up.
Lance laughed. "Are we seriously getting a dog?"
"Yes. Yes we are." Keith said, grabbing a light jacket.
