Chapter 8
Leo, Raph, Mikey, and Donnie followed Master Splinter home, a sick feeling in their stomachs. It was as if they could sense that something terrible had happened. Mikey sniffled. "She's still our friend," he said softy. Leo looked up. "But Master Splinter said-," he started. He stopped when he saw Raph glaring at him threateningly. "I don't care what Master Splinter said. Mikey's right, for once," Raph said in a growl. Donnie couldn't help but interject. "She's gone, though." They all looked at him. "Not if we go find her," Mikey stood up, "We'll tell her to come with us! We'll- We'll-" "We tried that Mikey," Leo interrupted his brother. "We'll try again. I don't know what it is about her, but we need her. And she needs us," Mikey finished firmly. Raph stood, now. "Yeah, oh fearless leader. You always talk about helpin' people and about never leaving someone behind. Why are you so quick to leave her behind?" "Master Splinter...," Leo tried to defend his actions. "I don't give a damn about Master Splinter! He's wrong! And I'm going to go find that girl! C'mon Mikey!," Raph concluded angrily. "Right behind you," Mikey chirped as he followed his raging brother. They rushed out of the lair to search for Cat, but they truly had no idea what they'd find.
Cat still lay unconscious in the middle of the dark road. No cars had passed yet, and that was probably the most lucky thing that had happened to her all night. She groaned helplessly in her sleep, as if trying with all her might to call for help. But nobody was answering. Or so she thought. "Well well well. What do we have here?," a male voice chuckled as he slowly approached Cat's unmoving body. He knelt down and examined her face. "Heh heh heh. Could it be? Kitty Cat? No, it's impossible," he poked her side, "My old...friend." He picked her up, showing no concern for her recently inflicted wounds. She winced, but he simply ignored it. If she had been awake she would have known the trouble she was in for now, but in this condition, it was probably better that she be unconscious. "I can't wait to bring you home."
Raph and Mikey hopped from rooftop to rooftop, keeping their eyes peeled for any sign of their friend. "Kitty! Kitty!," Mikey called. "Where could she have gone?," Raph panted. "She could be hiding," Mikey shrugged his shoulders. Raph looked out over the city. "Then this is hopeless," he said sadly, "You saw her moves before. If she's hiding from us, then I guarantee we'll never find her." Mikey walked over to his brother. "We will....because we have to." Raph stared at Mikey for a moment, then nodded. They continued their search along the rooftops, then began examining the streets. Unbeknownst to her, and in the most unfortunate of circumstances, Cat had actually left a clue as to where she was. Raph and Mikey gasped as they spotted the red liquid splattered along the street and the wall of the Empire State Building. They immediately jumped down to investigate. Hidden in the blood was a few cat claws that had flown off. Mikey picked one up. "You don't think...," he stared at Raph. Raph picked another up. "I do think," he nodded slowly. Tears formed in Mikey's eyes. "What could have happened?! You don't think she attacked someone, do you?!" Raph shook his head. "I....I doubt she would do this much damage to an innocent person." Mikey fell to his knees as he searched for more clues. "Do you think...someone attacked her, then?," he said in a sad and cracking voice as he looked up at his brother. Raph nodded again and his lip twitched with anger. "I hope they're ready to have their tails kicked. No one hurts our friends." Ah, such innocence.
