Chapter 7

"Why do you all care so much about me," Cat questioned, trying to collect herself once again. "Well you haven't given us any reason not to," Raph stated with a comforting smile. Mikey smiled as well and nodded in agreement with his brother. "You're our friend, dudette. It doesn't take long to make somebody your friend," he said. Ah, such innocence. Cat looked down. "I don't think you want me as a friend, Mikey," she said sorrowfully, "Things will spiral out of control and...just believe me when I tell you I'm a life ruiner...and I don't want to mess up what you all have like I did the first- Never mind...." "You see now my sons," Master Splinter interjected. They all seemed shocked that he had left the sewers and swung around to see if it was actually him. "That cat is not to be trusted." It was. The tears ceased their violent flowing down Cat's face and she stood up, pulling out of Mikey's grasp. "Lister Master Splinter, I won't impose any threat to your family, nor will I take anything from them. So, do me a favor and stop opening up old wounds," she said, seeming to regain her ferocity. Master Splinter seemed taken back by her words, and even more so by the pain behind them. "I stayed the night because it was raining. That's the end of it," Cat looked at the guys again, "Believe me I'm more trouble than I'm worth." With that, she flipped off the rooftop. The guys stood staring at Master Splinter, utterly baffled and with anger in their eyes. "Why?," was all Mikey could say. Raph shook his head in disbelief and looked away. Leo stared at his father, waiting for an explanation. Donnie did the same. "I do not have to explain myself. I am keeping you safe. You'll have to trust me when I tell you you cannot trust her," was his firm answer, "Let us go home and forget that this ever happened."

Catalina ran far away from the rooftop, and avoided any open manholes. Stopping at the Empire State Building, she covered her face to hide her flowing tears and slid down the building's concrete wall. The harsh reality that she could have made amazing new friends, but lost them because of what she'd done was beating her down like a bat. "Why? Why me?," she whispered to herself. Luckily, nobody was around at the time. A cat mutant sobbing to herself against a building wasn't exactly the norm. But even if people were around, it wouldn't have stopped Cat from emptying her tattered soul right here and now. She could only take so much. She could only hold back these feelings for so long. And if now was the time to let it all out, then now was the time to let it all out. "I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry," escaped her quivering lips. It's true. She was sorry. She was sorry for the mistakes she'd made and she was sorry for doing the awful things she did. Even though they couldn't be fixed, she could at least admit that she was, indeed, sorry. "Well sorry doesn't fix it, sweetheart," suddenly came an eerie voice from the darkness. "Yeah. How does it feel Kitty? How does it feel to be a murderer?," came another voice. "Heh heh. Nice to see you again, runt," came the third voice. As if things couldn't get any worse. Cat's eyes widened as three figures that were all too familiar emerged from the shadows. "P-Please," she squeaked, feeling as defenseless as she felt the first time this had happened. She cowered against the wall, holding up her hands in surrender as if that might stop what was about to happen. "Scared?," one of them asked. Cat nodded. "Good." Scratches. Bites. Punches. Kicks. It all happened so fast. And it was all over so fast. The three figures retreated after they felt she'd had enough, triumphantly laughing as they disappeared. Cat was left in the middle of the street, bleeding profusely and in too much pain to even cry for help. She could only lay there, completely helpless, as small tear drops rolled down her swollen cheeks. "I k-knew they'd f-find me," she whispered just before everything went black.
