Chapter 4
Cat awoke on the couch, wrapped in blankets with fuzzy socks hugging her feet. Sitting up sleepily and stretching her arms with a yawn, she opened her eyes and was immediately confused. However, she soon remembered last night and falling asleep in the bathroom. But how did she get to the couch? "Hey," came a soft whisper from none other than Michaelangelo. "Morning," Cat replied in her normal, cool tone of voice. "Uh, how'd ya sleep, Kitty?," Mikey asked with an expectant smile on his face. She chuckled and let a smile slide onto her face. "Good, but...how did I-," she said. "The socks were my idea," Mikey interrupted joyfully. The smile remained stubbornly on her face as she started to get up. "What's for breakfast?," she asked awkwardly, a little taken back by yet another nice deed done to her by these turtles. Was this normal? "Well, I wasn't sure what you'd like," he said quietly, "And it's kinda three in the morning." Now noticing that it was still dark and that nobody else was up, Cat couldn't help but giggle at her own mistake. "S-sorry," she muttered, feeling a little sorry for waking Mikey up. "For what, dudette?," he asked with wide eyes. "Waking you up," she said as she gestured to the dark room. Mikey chuckled. "I was awake. I was watching you sleep," he replied. Cat raised an eyebrow to express her confusion and slight discomfort. "That sounded super creepy, didn't it? Sorry! I was just watching you to make sure you were ok," he tried to correct himself. Cat smiled a little. "Thanks," she said in a whisper. "You sleep really cutely," he said, staring into her eyes with an enamored smile on his face. She blushed and let a lock of silky hair fall onto her face. "Do I?," she asked sheepishly. Mikey smiled and climbed onto the couch so he could sit next to her. "Yeah," he replied. "Uh...so aren't you sleepy?," she asked, trying to hide how awkward she was feeling right now. "Nah not really dudette. I normally stay up this late playing video games," he said happily. Cat looked up at him with a mischievous smile now on her face. "Video games?," she said, "I used to be really good at video games." Mikey's smile grew wider and his eyes brightened with joy. "Wanna play!?," he yelled quietly. Cat giggled and nodded. Mikey quickly got up and grabbed two remote controllers. Handing her one and turning on the TV, Mikey could feel the beginning of a beautiful friendship unfolding. "Let the games begin," Cat said as her eyes turned to focused slits. "Woah dudette check out your eyes!," he yelped, amazed. "He he. Yeah, they do that," she replied with another smile. Why was she smiling so much? As a marathon of video gaming went on, both Cat and Mikey started to feel sleepier and sleepier. He yawned loudly, which contagiously made Cat yawn as well. "Truce, Mikester?," she asked offering him a handshake. "Truce," he agreed as he gently slipped his large hand over her smaller one. When he released her hand, he watched as her eyes turned back to circles and her pupils dilated. "That's super cool," he said sleepily. "Thanks," she said, equally as tired. They sub-consciously cuddled up to both of the couches armrests and started to drift off. However, Cat jolted back being awake when Mikey gently tapped her shoulder. "What do you mean you used to be really good at video games?," he asked curiously. That question made her heart feel like a stitch broke. Memories flooded her mind and tears threatened her tear ducts. "I meant am. I am really good at video games," she said with a feigned chuckle. Mikey felt satisfied enough with her answer, so he just smiled and went back to sleep. Cat tried to patch up what had just been broken as she pushed away those horrid memories. It's ok. It's ok. I won't let it happen again. I won't let it happen again....
