Chapter 3
It had been a few days since Cat had seen her turtle friends. Even though having friends was something she'd sworn off of a long time ago, she couldn't help but want to consider them friends. It was nice to have somebody again. She slightly frowned to herself as she remembered how kindly they treated her. Why? Why would anyone be nice to her? She didn't exactly want to think about it too much, for that may sway her away from the relationship, if any, that she has with them. But why is she letting herself do this? Why would she let herself take the risk of getting close to people again? Questions. Questions. So many questions. The deep thoughts she was currently burying herself in were suddenly interrupted by a small droplet of water falling down from the sky and onto her foot. She gasped as she looked at the sky and realized that the unspeakable was happening. A thunderstorm. Cats and water never seem to get along, and mix that with lightning and thunder and you get a disaster for a cat mutant without a home. In the past, she would find shelter in dumpsters and alleys during storms. However, there has been a lot of tension on the ground ever since she'd stolen that rich guy's wallet. So, all seemed pretty hopeless. Cat cringed as a bolt of lightning struck the sky promptly after a loud crackle of thunder. Looking to simply get off the rooftops, she leaped of the building she was standing on and to the slippery blue-black street. As raindrops started to pound the ground in a seemingly endless torrential downpour, Cat scurried throughout the empty streets, desperate for anything to shield her from this. Whimpering slightly as she ran, her yellow eyes glowing in the night, she suddenly spotted none other than an open sewer cap. She jumped through the hole in the ground without hesitation and into the eerie and gross-smelling sewers. Shivering as she shook some water off her soaking clothes, she began walking. "L-L-Last t-time I forget to ch-check the weather forecast," she complained to herself, as she walked aimlessly through the dark silhouette. Little did she know, she wasn't far from the lair. She had no idea where her turtle friends took up residence, and she was about to find out. In the distance, Cat could here faint music and some arguing. Being curious, as most cat's are, she continued walking towards what she would soon find out is their home. It took only a few minutes for her to recognize their voices. Immediately, her stomach dropped and she wished she was in the middle of that thunderstorm again, but before she could scurry in the opposite direction, she heard Leo say, "Is someone there?" She mentally face palmed and slowly approached the lair until she was literally at their doorstep. "N-Nice place ya got here," she said smoothly trying to hide the fact that she was still freezing. The four turtles stared at her, eyes wide. "How did you find this place?," Raph asked with that hint of sarcasm and anger that invaded his every sentence. "Why are you all wet?," Mikey asked, seeming concerned. Cat shrugged. "Well, there was a huge storm and I had nowhere to go," she replied with a smirk, "Mikey-poo here said that if I ever needed anything I could come to you. So, here I am." She was desperately trying to hide the fact that she had merely stumbled upon their lair. As far as her reputation was concerned, she didn't make mistakes. Leo put a hand on the back of his neck. "Well, ok? You're welcome to stay the night," he said awkwardly. Cat could only fake her smirk for so long, and it swiftly transformed into a smile. Another weird act of kindness from these guys. "So...I guess I'll take the couch? Unless any of you had dibs on it?," she said. "Well first you gotta get out of those clothes," Donnie interjected. Cat, along with everyone else in the room, raised their eyebrows at him. Donnie immediately blushed. "I didn't mean it that way. I meant like her clothes are soaking and she could get a cold or something," he corrected himself. Everyone seemed satisfied. "Well I don't exactly have anything else to-," she said, but Mikey interrupted her. "I have the outfit I wore when Donnie was doing experiments on making us human," he said joyfully. Before she could respond, he ran off happily. Cat and his brothers all kind of stared at each other in awkward silence until he returned with a big orange hoodie and a pair of black sweat pants. "Thanks Mikester," she said as he handed her the clothes, "Uh, where should I...." "Down the hall and to the left," Leo interrupted. Cat smirked again then scurried off, leaving his brothers alone to chat. "I don't like her," Raph said, almost immediately. "Raph, she needs a place to stay the night," Leo said. "Yeah, Raph, it wouldn't be right to just throw her out," Donnie supported Leo. "She's like a lost kitten," Mikey said sadly. They all stared at him for a second. Then, Raph sighed. "I guess you guys are...right," he stated, sounding regretful for what he said before. There was another silence, but it was broken when Leo said, "We should go check on her." Everyone nodded and walked towards the bathroom. Mikey knocked gently, but stopped when he heard something strange. Light, airy snoring. He creaked the door open a little and saw Cat fast asleep on the floor, practically drowning in his orange hoodie. He smiled along with his brothers. They knew the same thing he did. She didn't just need a place to stay the night, she needed a home.
