An Impossible Task
Adrien walked through Marinette's apartment building with Mini Mari's hand in his. He had never really looked at the video ending before. It made it look like Marinette and him were in love. He had never questioned that choice of Nino and Alya when they presented the video idea. What didn't he know about Mari? They had talked about liking others but neither ever gave the name. As Chat, he had learned that the boy was in their class but that was all she gave him.
Once they go home, Mari watched a video Alya had made for her 18th birthday. It ran about 18 minutes so Adrien could make supper. The video showed Mari moments of her life that she both had lived and yet hadn't lived. "Mar! Food." She left the couch and wandered to the table. "What's wrong kiddo? You look overwhelmed."
"Adrien I can't do it. What the videos, I believe that it's me but it's like I'm watching someone else's life." She started to hyperventilate.
"Woah, Woah!" Adrien quickly moved from his chair to the ground next to hers. "Breath for me sweetheart." She took a shaky breath. "Here drink some of your water. Look if looking at your old life is too much then we won't. It's got to be hard for you. I think master Fu and I forgot that you have the mind of five year old. Sure an advanced five-year-old, but still a five-year-old. You have no memories. Other than you are supposed to be a grown-up and that you are a hero and that's a lot to handle. So let's have supper then we can play a game or two then got to bed?" She could only nod.
After about an hour and a half of playing he put her to bed. Adrien wandered around his living room, he sent Master Fu a text, We can't have her look at her old life as Marinette, it's to overwelling, she broke down tonight and I can't watch her hurt. Master Fu replied almost quickly, I was afraid of that. Well let's not stress her out, I'll keep looking.
Before their conversation could continue. Mari walked out of her room. "Adrien, I can't sleep." Adrien placed his phone in his back pocket. He took her hand and walked her back to her bed, and sat next to her as she curled up next to him.
"I'll sit here to you fall asleep little one." She yawned and nodded. Adrien stocked her hair and sighed deeply. When she first became a child, he thought he would miss Ladybug, but he missed Marinette his best friend. The girl he worked with, and the girl who understood him better than anyone else. The one who had bought him his first camera. He missed his Mari.
Slowly as her eyes shut, they stayed shut longer and longer. Till finally, she fell asleep. Adrien quietly crawled out of her bed and wandered into his room, and fell asleep rather quickly.
After what felt like a moment, he was awoken by a sudden weight on his chest. His eyes shot open to find Mari sitting on top of him and sunlight pouring into his room. Oh, it was morning, "Hey little one!"
"Moring Adrien!" The girl giggled.
"You gonna get off of me so I can get up?" Adrien pretended to be unable to move.
"Nope!" The small girl smile. "I like it here." she laughed.
"But if I don't get up, how will I make breakfast?" He chuckled at her silly antics, even if she was five, she was still so much the Mari he knew.
"That sounds like a you problem." She gave him as smug a smile as a five-year-old could give.
"Oh really?" Adrien reached up and quickly tickled his captor and she in giggles and laughter, rolled off him.
"Ok! Ok! You win!" She quickly jumped on his back and clung to him.
"Well alright, then miss Kwala let's go find some breakfast." The two had eaten and then ran around his apartment, playing games and enjoying themselves. A blissful Sunday morning. However as noon approached Adrien decided the two should not spend the day hiding in his apartment, they should go out and do something. So he sent her to get dressed and he went to do the same, promising to come help if she needed it, once he was ready.
As he headed to his room, he wondered if he could convince his father to spend the time with them, maybe young Mari would be enough to soften his hard heart, maybe even give him some new design inspiration. Adrien may not have been a designer himself but he knew his father was running out of ideas.
He entered his room, where Tiki and Plag, waiting for him, an anxious look on their faces. "Guys, what's up?"
"Adrien, we figured out how to fix Mari." Plag took a deep breath and landed in Adrien's hand, "It's not pretty."
"Tiki?" Adrien held his other hand out to her.
"Adrien, remember when we all contacted Nooroo? Well, we kwamis can communicate with each other if we are both not transformed. Well, Nooroo and I have been talking and He sensed a change in my transformation." Adrien was taken aback could Hawkmoth know that Mari is little now? "Don't worry Noro is good, he didn't tell Hawkmoth. But he knows how to fix it." Tiki looked at him with sadness.
"Tiki, why do I get the feeling I won't like this answer." Adrien sat on his bed looking at both Kwamis.
"Adrien, Many years ago, before even Master Fu was a guardian, the holder of the fox miraculous had come to a similar fate as Mari, and the butterfly had been the only cure. The holder had given another teammate the power to fix wrongs caused by Kwamis or Kwami magic."
It was a good thing Kwamis could fly because Adrien's hand dropped fast. "Your telling me the only way we can get Mari back is to get hawkmoth to help us or defeat him without LB? No way, it can't be done." Adrien did not continue this conversation, mostly because his brain went numb.
