Chapter-5

Amara Knight

Sometimes there's this feeling of someone closer to you being taken away from you arises and you can't explain why. You fear being left alone. You fear being forgotten.

I felt the same as I watched Zoe dragging Ryan with her.

I couldn't take my eyes off of her hand around his arm. She walked too close beside him, almost bending herself on him. The sight before my eyes gave my heart an inexplicable tug.

I shouldn't have been feeling that way. They had been friends since grade school, also, their interactions never had me, or anyone questioning their relationship. They were strictly friends. Well, that's what they portrayed.

However, for the first time, I saw something unusual in Zoe's behavior. Could she have developed a liking for him? If she did, would she take Ryan away from...me? Did Ryan feel the same for her?

No, no, I was looking into it too much. They were just friends.

"They look so good together, don't they? Some day they'll make a cute couple."

Drew's remark felt like a baseball bat slammed right on my head, causing the cerebrum of my brain to short circuit. The apprehension that I never experienced before came to knock on my sense.

Did Drew notice that too? I wasn't the only one? Means they really were-? No! No! They were just friends!

"No, they won't. They are just friends." Instead of confidence, doubt could be suspected in my voice. I sighed. "C'mon, we gotta go."

We began to walk when out of nowhere, a girl with the speed of a bullet came running towards us, and before I could register what was happening, she kneed Drew in his balls. Ouch!

"Ow! Fuck!" He dropped to his knees, groaning.

The hallway boomed with the funny groans of the students that witnessed the attack.

Wincing, I raised my eyes to look at the girl who brutally trashed Drew's glories.

It was Becky Banks. She's a dusky skin-toned, curly-haired, beautiful, badass I was friends with. She was an unrestricted, wild bird who would jump from branch to branch without a care in the world.

She and Drew had an on-off relationship. They had strong feelings for each other, the funny thing being, that they knew about their feelings. Had confessed once, but something changed between them and they separated within six months of confession. Guess, they weren't ready. Now they were free to be with whoever they wanted, however, they never miss the chance to intervene and destroy their relationships with new partners.

"If you dare ruin my date ever again, I'll chop off your D and feed them to piranhas. Or better yet, will stick a live Piranha to your D to let it nibble you to death." She threatened him as she repeatedly jabbed her finger in his shoulder.

Compared to her, my threats were like a chicken that hadn't come out of the egg yet.

Drew was in pain and she appeared to have no intention to let him go anytime soon. The tension between the two was palpable, so I decided to break it.

"Hey, Becky." I tried to smile, but Drew's scrunched face and low groans kept me distracted. Becky took the intimidating gaze off of Drew and beamed at me.

"Oh, Amara, I missed you, my baddy." She lunged onto me and wrapped me in a bone-crushing hug.

I chuckled nervously as I pointed at Drew. "Yeah, I saw that."

Her hands went on the straps of her school bag as she rolled her eyes. "He deserves it."

"Uh, okayyy." I trailed off. "Anyway, you didn't attend any classes today, where have you been?" I questioned.

"Ugh! Don't even ask about it! Mrs. Frey trapped me in the drama class all day after taking permission from Principal Judith. According to her, the drama classes will help me with my modeling carrier. I mean, can you believe that crap?!" She rambled annoyingly, paused, then continued.

"I mean, here I am, with my portfolio in my hands, knocking on the door of agencies to look at it and give me a chance, and she thinks keeping me busy in drama will help me!" She huffed.

I laughed. "Aww, don't lose hope, you'll become a successful model one day."

"And that's why I adore you." She again pulled me in a hug.

"If you girls are done with your crap, help me stand up! I'm dying here!" Drew growled and I immediately rushed to help him.

Becky flicked her hair and glared at him. "I didn't knee you to help you later. Help yourself!" She stomped her feet and walked away.

I rushed back to Drew and helped him stand him. "You must have done something extreme to get yourself kneed by her." I groaned as I helped this bulky man to his feet.

By now, the curious students had also dissipated to mind their own business but not before teasing Drew with amusing laughter.

Once on his feet, he cupped his private area. "I just pushed her date into the hay on the roadside when I found them walking down the street. And that too a week ago before I went on a vacation."

I placed my hands on either side of my waist. "Now why would you do that? Why won't you let her free?" I glared at him.

He narrowed his eyes at me. "She's free. I just don't happen to like the guy she was trying to date. That's it."

I rolled my eyes. "You want me to believe that? Well, Mr. D, I don't. Why don't you man up and tell her that you still love her?"

"Ugh, I don't." He groaned while trying to stand straight.

I shook my head. I knew he wouldn't accept his feelings since it would hurt his ego. He thought I didn't know he wanted Becky to come to him first because he was the one who proposed to her and now he hoped the same from her.

"Let's go, you dumbo." I grabbed his wrist and dragged him with me, only to hear his painful groans.

"Oh, Amara, my babies, my future babies. Damn! Fuck!"

He dropped himself to the floor again and banged his fist on the floor. "I'm gonna kill that bitch for doing this to me."

Now I felt really bad for him. Feeling sorry for him, I kneeled before him and patted his shoulder. "Does it hurt that bad?"

He shot a dangerous look at me. "Hurt bad? You'd know my pain only if you had a penis. Lucky you that you don't." He snapped irritably.

"Well...ahem..." Laughing nervously, I withdrew my hand from his shoulder. "Err, infirmary? Do you want me to bring you there?"

"What will the nurse do with it? Foreplay?" He deadpanned.

Uh, well yeah, I could have the nurse done anyway?

"I just want to be out of here." He managed to stand up, then I helped him walk out of the school.

Throughout he kept crying for his future babies that according to him had a negligible rate of survival after what his private part went through.

At the parking lot, Joshua and Tory had been waiting for us in peace, however, they snickered at Drew's weird walk.

"What happened to you?" Tory laughed as he slammed his hand on Drew's back.

I explained to them what he went through and both of them became maniacs. They both laughed while clutching their stomach.

"Damn, that must have hurt like bitch!" Joshua wiped the traces of tears from the corner of his eyes. "It was Amara who asked me to book a bed in the infirmary but I presume you'll be needing one now."

I knew the situation was funny, but Tory and Joshua took it far by laughing at him.

I narrowed my eyes at Joshua. "You want to experience the pain? Shall I do the honor?" I snapped.

His smile died down as stepped back frantically while protecting his manhood. "No, no need."

My gaze flew to Tory and lucky for him he had already surrendered.

I offered to drop off Drew at his home in the car but he declined, stating he was fine enough to drive his motorbike. I didn't press much and let him be because it seemed his male ego dominated over his pain.

When Joshua and Drew drove off, Tory wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me to him.

"So babes, I heard Ryan tutored the detention class. Everything went well, right? He didn't criticize you for no reason, did he?" He questioned.

Since he was taller I had to crane my neck up to look at him. I curled my lips downwards. "When does he not? His life motto is to scold me for every minute thing."

His eyebrows creased as he looked down at me. "It's you who always stop me otherwise I'd have set him straight for being rude with you by now."

I unwrapped his arm from around my shoulder and grinned. "This is because I can stand up for myself. I know how to shut his mouth."

He sighed. "Of course. Anyway, c'mon, I'll drop you home today."

"My chauffeur is already waiting for me outside." My reply saddened him.

He placed his hands on his waist. "You've not been spending time with me lately. Can you tell me when was the last time we went out for a ride or to eat?"

Well, he was right. It had been over two weeks since we went out for fun as we used to.

Sighing, I patted his arm. "Well, It's already the weekend. I'll tell my chauffeur not to pick me up next week, then we'll go out together, is that okay with you?"

Scoffing, he averted his eyes and I huffed angrily. "You do know that I don't tolerate anyone's tantrums, don't you? I won't give you another chance-"

"Alright, alright, how can I forget that you don't listen to anyone? I'm fine with what you offered." He huffed.

I grinned. "Now, that's like my Tory."

I bid him goodbye and went home. Without bothering to drop my bag in the room and freshen up, I directly went to the kitchen, only to find my dad sitting on the barstool, typing away on his laptop while my brother sat beside him, enjoying his afternoon snacks.

I dropped myself on the barstool on the other side of my dad. "Why are you not at your office?" I questioned.

"You do know that your mother and I make sure not to leave Xyler by himself. He's not big enough to be left alone yet." He chuckled, not taking his eyes off the screen.

I rolled my eyes. "C'mon dad, he's ten."

He took his eyes off of the screen and darted them at me. "We did not leave you by yourself until you were twelve. You were and still are a troublemaker."

I heard a mocking snickering from my brother. "You're right, dad, she's a troublemaker. She's used to being grounded by now."

Narrowing my eyes, I jumped off my barstool, reached to him, and snatched his spaghetti plate from him. "You're not getting the rest of it. Punishment for taunting me."

I rolled the spaghetti around the fork and took a big bite out of it. "Hmm, yum."

I had believed that Xyler would snatch the plate out of my hand, however, it didn't happen, instead, I found him smirking evilly.

"Have it if you want. I'll ask Mrs. Pine to give me the leftover meatballs mamma made this morning. I spared them for you, but it's obvious you want spaghetti." He shrugged and dad laughed.

My eyes turned wide and I slammed the plate back on the counter. "What no! Mrs. Pine, I want the meatballs." I rushed to our cook, who was laughing at our bickering.

Mrs. Pine warmed the meatballs and plated them with rice for me. I took the plate and made sure to float the plate before Xyler and sat on my seat beside dad.

I was about to eat my food when Xyler spoke again. "Just so you know, I have already eaten my share of meatballs."

My nostrils flared at being played by my little brother while my dad laughed as he ruffled Xyler's hair. "My son is smart."

"Smart? He's cunning. Anyway, am I not smart, dad?" I pouted, showing him my fake disappointment.

"You're my daughter, how can you be not smart?." He gave me a side hug.

Upon hearing his appreciation, I blew a flying kiss for him. Then, he began to do his work, which I got to see.

"Why do you only work on cars and not motorbikes?" I asked casually while cutting the meatball into two pieces with the fork.

"Because we wanted to work on cars. If you want you can expand the business by including motorbikes once you grow up, that is only if you wanna join the company." He replied encouragingly.

I smiled gently. "We'll see about that when the time comes. By the way, you do know about my interest in motorbikes still I have none for myself."

He stopped working again and looked at me. "You'll have one after high school. You're one mischievous girl and might meet an accident."

I frowned. "What if I meet an accident after high school? Your statement does not make sense, dad."

He sighed. "Maybe. But one become responsible as one age. You'll drive safely and responsibly by then."

"Dad, this is not right..." I whined, but I abruptly stopped when I heard my mother from behind.

"What's not right, Amara?"

Three of us turned to her and I swear I would have asked her for the motorbike if I hadn't seen her mad expressions.

Seeing her glaring at me, dad stood up and approached her. "What happened, Ari?"

Even though dad had cupped her face, she had her hard gaze fixed on me.

Uh oh, could that be a sign of getting grounded again? But what did I do?

"Ask Amara what happened in the school. Or to be precise what she did in the school." She said and I nervously stood up from the barstool. Xyler did the same.

"What, what did she do?" Dad asked and I gulped. Don't tell me my teacher called her to complain about me.

"I received a phone call from Ryan. He told me she got a detention today for pranking her chemistry teacher."

What?! My eyes turned bigger like the meatballs I was eating a while ago.

Ryan...?

Why in the dark DC world would Ryan do that?

That's it. I am so gonna rip off his loving plants from the roots along with his hair from his head. I'm gonna leave him bald.

Lord, save me from committing an unforgivable crime.

"Oh dear, oh dear..." I heard my dad sigh.

Mamma walked near me and I gulped in fear. It's not that mamma was going to beat me or anything, but getting scolded by her pinched my heart.

"When will you learn to be responsible? When will you give up on your childish pranks?"

I lowered my head in guilt. Her voice was hard but I knew how soft she was from inside. It was just her outer strictness for me. Regardless, it had me lower my head in shame.

"I'm sorry, mamma," I whispered as I fiddled my fingers.

"How many times will you apologize?" She raised my head by holding my chin. Her brows had a crease of worry.

"You don't learn unless given a punishment. Fine, this time you'll prepare fifty sandwiches for the homeless people tomorrow all by yourself. No help of any sort will be provided to you."

I frowned. Uh, fifty sandwiches were a lot, however, I did not consider it a punishment for me. I'd gladly do that if I wasn't even told to.

"Uh, not only that." Mamma smiled sweetly. Way too sweetly, which was the indication of another harsher punishment.

"I've changed the wifi password. Today you'll have to do your homework without the help of the internet. No social media either."

My jaw hung low. "But..." I flicked my eyes to my dad, who casually shrugged in response. "But how am I gonna do homework without the internet, mamma?"

"Textbooks. Ever heard of that?" She questioned and patted my cheek. "Now, finish your food and head back to your room."

She blew a flying kiss and approached Xyler, leaving me standing there in shock.

"Hey sweetheart, how was your day?" She asked him sweetly before kissing his forehead. Xyler replied to her even sweetly.

"Alright, I'm gonna go freshen up. And Amara, sweetie, I'll check your homework once it's done." She smiled and walked out of the kitchen, not before shooting a deathly glare at dad.

"Why do you do all these things? See, now she's mad at me for no reason." Dad sighed, walking up to me. "She'll make up with you in no time but I'll have to go through her moods for a while now."

Ignoring his distress, I crossed my arm and asked him, "Why did not you learn hacking from mom?"

"Your mother wouldn't teach me. She is way too particular about that thing."

I huffed, dropping my hands to my side. "Then please have her teach me hacking as it'd be helpful in situations like I'm in right now."

"She wouldn't do that either unless you are serious about that thing and want to pursue it as your career." He chuckled. "Alright kids, finish up your food. I'm gonna go lower the temperature of your furious mamma. Wish me luck."

With that, he exited the kitchen and I immediately pointed a threatening finger at Xyler, warning him from passing any mocking comments. He held his hand up and resumed eating.

Once I was done with my rice and meatballs, I rushed to my room, opened the lowest drawer of my cabinet, which had waste but might be of use one-day materials, and took out a dartboard on which I had pasted Ryan's picture. I had made the board to let out my pent anger on him.

I gripped the board tightly as I gritted my teeth. "Let me give you the trailer of what I'm going to do with you when I see you next time."

I fixed the dartboard on the wall and threw a drat which got stuck right in the middle of his face. "You call me childish but what you did was childish, too."

Another dart. "Shouldn't have complained about my detention to my mother."

Another. "When will you grow up, huh?"

Like that, I threw seven darts and in the end, I threw a plush cactus toy at him.

"Ugh! Why did not I like Zoe's closeness with you today?"

I abruptly jerked hearing what just came out of my mouth. Goodness, I had gone crazy. He made me crazy.

"Amara, come back to your sense. They are friends for god's sake." I vehemently shook my head to bring myself back to my sense.

I changed my clothes and immediately opened my books to do my homework, however, after approximately ten minutes, my eyes began to droop, my body began to wave, and I only came to life when I almost fell from my chair.

"Goodness doing homework without the Internet is so boring," I grumbled.

Just because I didn't have another option, I continued with my homework, while mentally practicing my kickboxing moves on Ryan. I was in this situation because of him.

I didn't know for how long I sat in the same position, flipping the pages of my textbook to have my work done. It was the longest I had ever sat on the chair to study.

I swear this blue-eyed son of Peterson forces me to do things I have never done before.

I was almost done with my homework when a knock sounded on my door. I allowed whoever was outside in, without looking up from my notebook.

"Amara sweetie, are you not done with your homework yet?" The gentle and soothing voice of my mamma reached my ear, which made me shoot my head up.

By now mamma had reached beside me. She gently caressed my hair and kissed the top of my head. "I didn't say you had to do all your homework in one go. You can take a break, sweetheart."

I dropped my pencil on the top of my notebook and looked up at her. "Are you still mad at me?"

She passed her infamous sweet smile. "How can I be mad at my girl when she listens to her mother, although after being scolded."

I chuckled and hugged her torso. "I'm sorry, mamma. I'll try to stay low for a while, okay?"

She playfully frowned. "What do you mean by you'll try? You have to stay low...for longer this time. Can you do that for me?"

"Of course." I beamed, jumping off my chair. "One question though, are you mad at dad?"

She pursed her lips and crossed her arms. "Hmm, maybe, maybe not. You don't have to worry about him. Now, c'mon, it's already the time for dinner."

"Already?" I asked in surprise and whipped my head towards the wall clock. It stated 8 in the night. "Wow, I studied hard today." I was amazed by myself and felt proud of myself as well.

Mamma laughed. "Yes, you did. Now c'mon." She made her way out of my room.

I quickly followed her and joined my family at the dinner table.

My mother may not be mad at me anymore, but I surely was mad at Ryan. I would definitely take my revenge on him.
